Kirk came out twice to see the job.  The first time last summer, and I told him I would get back to him when I was ready.  The second time he came out in the fall, we talked through what needed to be done.   I wanted to use the existing Allen Block and Cambridge pavers but it needed to be torn down with care, and put together with the right material.  The challenge was not only taking the puzzle apart and putting it back together, but doing so in a careful way as not to break any of the existing Allen block.  The job was to be done when the weather would allow.  After some bad winter weather, we finally got the job started and Kirks team was meticulous and professional.  They took apart all the pieces and laid them out in the backyard.  His team then put it all back together using the right material.  They came back a few days later to do the patio extension because the weather would not allow otherwise. They took their time to make it look great.  I am very pleased with the work they did.  I will call Kirk again the next time I have another project.

After gathering a few quotes we decided to go with American Total Remodeling Group, as they appeared to be professional, knowledgable and the price seemed too good to be was.
The owner Kelly clearly has very little experience with contracting. He claims to be a window and siding specialist, where really he is just the middle man from the manufacturer to consumer. We spent 4 months constantly chasing him up for when work will be done, when materials will be delivered, when anything will get done. He kept saying materials had been ordered when they had not. If he did order something it was incorrect or a cheaper version.
During the 4 months he brought round various sub contractors round to look at what needs to be done. Then he told us they were busy or he had fired them for not showing up for another job. Many of the sub contractors were friends of his, who were helping him out because he could not find anyone else. All of his subcontractors are not professional full time contractors. Weeks would go by and nobody would show up and any work was done, it was incorrect or of a poor quality. After day two our brand new carpets had been stained in various areas and we eventually and to claim on the companies insurance to have them cleaned.
    The Fence:
The fence was done first. He did not order enough materials. When the job was done we found many areas with large holes at the bottom which he said would be repaired. It never was. We have had several calls from the installer asking for his money and the owner did not pay him.
    The French Doors:
These were installed very poorly. The frame was not level and had large holes. The original installer also cut sheet rock on our new wood floors and scratched them. He had another sub contractor reinstall the french doors. We provided handle and door hardware. He lost several of the screws and replaced them with cheaper ones. These were to be painted white, which was very rushed and of a poor standard. The replacement sheet rock was the wrong depth and had to be repeatedly spackled to hide the mistake.
    New construction window:
We ordered a double hung window with a 6ft arch on top to match a similar window at the front of our house. When this finally arrived the design in the arch was incorrect and the owner admitted he had ordered the wrong style. For time we had it installed anyway. They did not finish, caulk or j-channel the interior or exterior walls. It was left unfinished.
    Master bathroom remodel:
This was a complete remodel. The initial demo went well. Took a few days and everything was stripped back.
The windows took months to arrive. We were told some were made the wrong size, others the wrong grids. The new windows themselves were very good quality. The installation was rushed. The caulking is messy and the window ledges were bent upwards. The sheetrock replaced around the was the wrong depth and left large indents even after being spackled.
For weeks we asked if the tiles we picked and agreed upon had been ordered. Clearly the owner was trying to find them cheaper. They were finally ordered after 2 1/2 months. After having two tile guys come over and assess the job, neither of them showed up to do the work, one was the owners brother. We had to work with a third tile guy at the last minute who fortunately took pride in his work. The tiling was done very well. We paid him directly in cash as we feared he would not be paid either.
The plumbing was done by the electrician/handyman. It was all done quickly and incorrectly. When the vanity was put in the bathroom the owner and plumber hacked away at the inside to try and fit the pipes. It was never connected as the plumber realized later that we had a double vanity not a single. The bathtub plumbing and the bathtub itself was left not connected. The shower handles were installed upside down. They cut through the bedroom closet to finish the shower plumbing. This was not properly closed on speckled back up.
New recessed lights were installed, which seem to be ok, however the wall plate switch was installed by the painters son. They left a large gap at the side of the wall plate and left a wire unconnected so none of our bedroom outlets worked. The vanity light was supposed to me centered over the new vanity but was not.
The shower glass arrived and did not fit correctly. The installers manual sanded the glass to try and make it fit which resulted in it being scratched in various places. Also one of the door brackets was scratched. They eventually cut into the marble ledge to make the glass fit and filled the large hole with silicone that looks messy. We have had several calls from the glass company asking for payment as their checks bounced.
As of December 31st 2013 the balance we owed the company was $2750. We agreed we would find new contractors to repair and complete all the unfinished jobs. We paid over $2000 to have the plumbing completely redone in the bathroom. As the tiles were already installed they had to cut a 10ft hole in the dining room below. When doing this they discovered a supporting joist was cut under the bathtub that had to be reframed. We paid $2000 to have the new construction window finished and the walls speckled. We paid $700 to have the wood flooring repaired.
Overall it was an awful experience. The company promises things they cannot fulfill. They do not have the project management skills, contracting knowledge, subcontractors, and available funds to do a professional job.
We even recommended this company to a family member who gave a $11000 deposit in September 2013 for a porch and gazebo remodel. No materials were delivered. No work has been done and the owner said he no longer has their money. DO NOT WORK WITH THIS COMPANY.

    Update June 5, 2014:
The company has now declared bankruptcy.
