  • I made the mistake of hiring a different company to paint the exterior of my 1.5 storey bungalow. After nearly 3 weeks of excuses and faulty equipment and random strangers showing up to do shoddy work, I finally told them to stop. I called Joe that day and he was out the next morning with an estimate to re-paint my half-painted house for nearly half of what I was quoted by the other company. His crew was in and out in 1 day, the following weekend, and everything looks fantastic.

    Joe showed up on site to start the job and returned after the fact to make sure it was done right. The crew was skilled and courteous, and their attention to detail was admirable. My house looks brand new. 

    After the fact, I learned that the previous provider was suing me in small claims court. Having never been sued before, I contacted Joe to see if he had any thoughts. He was very helpful and even set aside time to show up in court to confirm the fact that they had to re-paint and even fix some of the horrible work that had been performed. I came out on top. And I have Joe to thank for that.

    Don't bother calling anyone else. Really, do yourself a favor and lt Rainer paint your house.

  • John and Matt arrived at the job site early. The company is responsive to communication/emails. Scheduling was prompt, as was an estimate. 
    We contacted Platinum to do wallpapering for a wall that had wood paneling. They provided us with an estimate for $500, which we agreed on. We sent pictures to John/Chrissy to let them know what the walls looked like. And, they agreed to take the job.
    We had let them know that we did not want the wallpaper painted based on the reviews of other buyers who had purchased the same wallpaper (and indicated that the quality and color of the wallpaper worked well without needing paint).  They pushed for it, but was fine with it in the end. 
    John and Matt came to the house. They first met with my husband. I arrived home shortly after (about 5 minutes). We discussed what needed to be done. The description of the job work request (as indicated on the invoice) included and QUOTE "All surfaces to be sanded, caulked, primed, spackled & glazed as needed."
    There were edges along the wall that needed to be spackled to make the edges even. When John saw this, he was not proactive in offering suggestions on how to address the issue and I felt, seemed to undermine my comments. I felt his responses were very terse, to the point of rudeness. He then asked about the spaces between the panels and how that should be addressed. I replied that it should be caulked as was done by the previous owners (or spackled), and was a bit surprised at his question because as a professional wallpaper hanger and given the fact that I had provided up-close pictures of the paneling, he would know how to best address the spacing. That was the reason we hired them. The spacing between the panels was something that he was already aware of through our correspondence. 
    The straw that broke the camel's back was when he extended the same attitude in a conversation about areas where the wood panel wall met the ceiling and an adjacent wall. My understanding was that there are preparations that are included in hanging wall paper - hence their quote "All surfaces to be sanded, caulked, primed, spackled & glazed as needed" that was on the invoice estimate. 
    He said, "All I do is wall paper."  I then communicated to him that perhaps they were not the best fit for this job and that I felt he was being rude. He acknowledged that his comments were sarcastic, and something about knowing that this was going to happen right when he arrived at our house. Not sure what he meant by that or how he "knew."
    The room where we needed wallpaper to be hung was cold because our home has three levels of zone heating. We didn't use the upstairs level/room where the wallpaper needed to be hung and thus had only turned on the heating on the main floor. We did not realize that the room needed to be warmed up for wallpaper. Had we known or was informed beforehand, we would have made sure to turn on the heating. When John mentioned that it needed to be warm, we promptly turned on the heating.
    All in all, what turned us off was his lack of professionalism in his terse comments. I am glad to have made the gut decision to NOT go forward with Platinum. It didn't seem to be a fit for either side.

  • This was a deal I purchased (in advance of the service) from Angie's List.  Don't think I'll purchase one again.  Here's why: Never actually met with with the owner of the business face to face so I wasn't able to go over the job sight and tell him my expectations.  On a real job estimate you're able to do that.
    On the day of the painting service the owner was not on sight, I left for work and there were just 2 people on my porch beginning to prep for painting.  No one knocked on my door to let me know they were going to be starting work, etc... that lack of professionalism made me uncomfortable.    When I approached them I introduced myself and asked a couple of questions, which they were not able to answer, this concerned me.  I called the owner and he assured me that they were solid workers and would do a good job.  At the end the job was satisfactory but the details I would have expected from hiring professional painters were not executed to my expectations.  I could have done a better, more careful job myself.

  • the whole experience was great. i would have them back again and again a real pleasure to work with, pricing was good, job was done fast and professional. they even helped me do some other little things that they did not charge me for

  • We wanted to have our house painted, but wanted the stucco exterior repaired and uniform before spending the money to paint. Poyatt said he had a stucco expert and they could do the stucco repair and then paint. His stucco "expert" was never able to properly repair any of the stucco, but they went ahead and painted the house anyway (we were out of the country at the time). We gave him a second chance and asked if there was any material that could be applied to the stucco to make it uniform. He said 'yes' and that he needed $2500 to buy the special "sprayable stucco", and $1500 for the labor to apply it. He took the check for $4000 and did not come back. We checked with the company he was allegedly buying this product through, and they said there was no such product. I finally reached him by phone and told him that I would settle with him out of court if he returned $4700 of the $7700 he took from us in total. He agreed, signed a document, gave us one check for $800 and nothing else. When I called and said he still owed us more, he said "that's not his problem". Now that we're back in the US, we will be taking him to court. The next painter we hired was great to work with, and found that Poyatt's crew never scraped the house properly before painting and much of the paint fell off in large sheets. Poyatt appears to have hired unskilled labor and never supervised them, or didn't care what kind of work they did. They also oversprayed and ended up getting red paint all over the roof.
