JDB Furnace & Air Duct Cleaning
Michael was very polite and educational, he explained why my fireplace was shutting down and he also told me how important it is (for mine and my family's health and safety) to clean it in a yearly bases.  The problem was fixed and my fireplace works and looks like new. I would definitely recommend him.

    American Chimney Service
I utilized Angies list to recommend a chimney cleaner for my home.  I paid $120.00 on the site to have American Chimney Service clean the chimney.  On the date of Tuesday, July 15, 2014, Didier apparently arrived at the designated time and met with my wife.
After a summary inspection, he proceeded to inform my wife that the chimney wasn't lined and fully explained the hazards of not having a lined chimney.  My wife took note and advised me that the technician, Didier, was adamant in pushing the fact that he/his company could install a stainless steel liner for $5,582, less a $558.00 Angies discount.
On Wednesday, July 16, 2014, my plumber Ross Pucci from Adriaticaire visited my home to inspect the chimney for cleanliness and to advise if I did in fact need a liner.  He checked the chimney and advised, and showed me, that the chimney was not clean and the city's code inspector would not pass that section of the worksite.
Armed with this information I contacted Didier on Thursday, July 17, 2014 to explain the aforementioned problem.  I told him what I paid and the service I expected, and he countered with the statement that I only paid $79.00 and it was onIy for one the cleaning of one chimney and the cost is usually $175.00!  I explained that I wasn't satisfied with the service and would inform Angie's List, the BBB, and any other service that I could think of that they are not reputable.
I then called Angie's List on Friday, July 18, 2014 and explained my situation to Marie.

    American Chimney Service
He came on Tuesday to perform the service that I had purchased. He left a lengthy note about needing a lining put into the chimney with my wife. Afterward, I brought a plumber in to change my system from oil heat to gas. The plumber asked about the liner and looked at my chimney. In order to get clearance from the city code inspectors, the chimney has to be clean. He brought to my attention to the fact that the chimney wasn't clean and that there were ashes still everywhere. I contacted the company and he told me that he was only supposed to clean the main chimney, nothing else. When I mentioned to the individual about cleaning the chimney, we went back and forth about the pricing and the work that was supposed to be done.

    Lovell Contracting
I called Lovell Contracting at the last minute before hurricane Irene was expected.  I called as a Plan B should the company I arranged for the job not make it - which they did.  I explained this to him when he arrived.  I feel terrible about having done that and regret having inconvienced Bernard Lovell.  I felt I had no choice given the condition of the roof.  While he wasn't too happy with what I did he was extremely responsive, punctual and acted extremely professional.  Please forgive me Bernard.

    Kodiak Tree Experts
We've used them for years. They are very good. We spend $200 or more per year with them. If we need a tree taken down, they are very expensive. They are professional and the quality of their work is excellent. We will absolutely continue to use them.

    American Chimney Service
First off I want to say it was a nightmare to try and find a reputable chimney sweep in my area. American Chimney Service was the 7th chimney company that came to my house. I had a feeling I was going to hire them right from the time I scheduled the appointment. The girl in the office (I think her name was Nicole) was very professional and answered all of my questions. She set an appointment for me with a 1 hour window and asked if I wanted the technician Douglas to call me 15 minutes before they arrived. They arrived at my house exactly when they said they would. None of the other companies were on time. Douglas was very thorough with the evaluation of my chimney. My plumber told me that my chimney needed to be relined so it was not a surprise when Douglas confirmed it. Douglas gave me an estimate in a folder that had a copy of their business license, a copy of their insurance, a brochure with pictures of the lining process and a certificate from the BBB which said they had an A+ rating. He did not try to pressure me in to having the work done. I asked for references and he had his office E-mail 3 references that afternoon. I was only able to get in touch with 2 of the references but they both had good things to say about them. One of the references happened to be my yard neighbor. Needless to say I scheduled the work. He told me a the lining technician would arrive the following morning at 9AM. When the technicians arrived they were uniformed and very pleasant. They covered everything in the area they were working in, put paper on the floor and clear plastic on my carpeted steps leading to the basement. The technician could not have been a nicer guy. Soft spoken and explained everything they were doing. The job took about 4-5 hours to complete.

    A-1 Armor Construction
The whole process went very well, especially in comparison to the scare tactics of 2 competitors, whose prices were between 4 and 6 times higher than A-1 Armor's. Steven Smith, the president, did not try to sell work that did not need to be done. He came to our house the day the work was to be done and explained what would be happening when his men arrived to do the work and how long it would take. The men did a professional job and cleaned up completely. I also got a call later that day to make sure everything was done satisfactorily. The only problem was that we were told that the business accepted credit cards, but seemed reluctant to do so on the day the work was performed. I had to post-date a check to allow time to move cash into our checking account.
