Water Heater Repair And Installation reviews in Elizabeth

    Meyer & Depew Co., Inc.
I have a rental property in Elizabeth, NJ. My tenant called to say there was no heat. My brother stopped by, tried troubleshooting. The furnace was installed less than 2 years ago. We tried contacting the original provider (that installed the unit) but they were unresponsive. Since the tenant has a small child, we couldn't wait. I turned to the trusty Angie's List and I selected this provider because of the A ratings.
The phone service was excellent and professional. They told me they could have someone on site that day, between the hours of 3-7 pm. This was a very rainy evening, but the technician managed to get there just before 7 pm. Ok. Punctual. The technician explained to me that the electronic ignition has a few wires to get it started and one of those was very loose. He also said the unit seemed to have too much water (that, I put on my brother's troubleshooting). Well, okay, so, tighten the connection and, bang, we're up and running. He went on to stress the importance of having a maintenance contract - while it was a valid up-sell, the house is in the process of being sold, so I did not want to commit to that expense at this time. So, then, the charges: $137 for the diagnostics (I see Angie's list has a buy it now button for $119, but I failed to take advantage of that). Then, there was a charge of $112 for (I'm sorry, I forgot why, exactly). Naturally, I was relieved that the matter had been resolved, though, I thought the cost was a bit steep for tightening a wire. Then again, I know that what we're really paying for is "knowledge". I had told the phone representative that I had been referred to them by Angie's List. It might have been nice if they said, oh, we have a special price for those customers, etc... - So, the thing that leads me to a less-than-A rating is: This morning, I get a call from the tenant telling me that there is no hot water! Granted, today's service call was only for the furnace. Still, the water heater is right next to it, so I called the company (and technician), to see if there could be any relation/connection? Naturally, the technician denied any connection because he only worked on the furnace. He did not touch the water heater. I sensed it was a defensive posture so I did not press on. I found another provider on Angie's List who came by today and found that the gas line running to the water heater had been turned off.  Mind you, it's all very circumstantial and coincidental, but the water heater was absolutely fine until the furnace work was done. Also, the technician could have said "no, I didn't work on the water heater but, since I was there yesterday, would you like me to stop by and take a look?" etc.  - Anyway, I'm just left feeling like everything wasn't above board. Maybe it's coincidental. - Bottom line is, they were professional, they showed up on time and they resolved the problem. Were there opportunities to go a bit above and beyond? Yes. Did they seize them? Not in my opinion. Should you use this provider? Yeah, probably. There was not a "Maybe" button in this review or I would have selected that.

Carmine P. Aumenta Plumbing & Heating NJ
If Angie's list included an A+ rating, I would use that!
Okay, so this wasn't a "major" service call or anything, but the simplicity and responsiveness and focus on customer service is what puts this over the top! Just like one might only hope to find a car mechanic that won't jerk them around with jargon or make unnecessary repairs I felt that Carmine was totally above board. - So, the details - This is a rental property in Elizabeth, NJ. Yesterday, I had the furnace serviced because it wouldn't start up. I used Angie's List to find another vendor who promptly came out and completed the repair. All good. Except, today, the tenant calls to say there was no hot water. He went downstairs, saw that the pilot light was out and couldn't light it back up. Being that I live out of town, I needed help. The tenant has a 1 year old in the apartment so the fix couldn't wait. I turned to my trusty Angie's List and found Carmine. When I called, Carmine answered and said he could have someone there in the early afternoon (in fact, it was probably no more than 90 minutes after our initial call). And so it went - Danny showed up on time, gave me a call and went to work. Carmine later called to tell me that it appeared the gas line had been shut off (to the water heater)! - Did the furnace repair guy do that? Did the tenant do it by accident while troubleshooting? I may never know. But I do know that it made sense and Carmine provided a straightforward answer when he could have made any number of claims or said parts needed replacing, etc. Nope! Not here! THANK YOU, Carmine for your honesty and great customer service! You can be sure to get my business in the future!!!

    Service Professionals Inc
This is a rental property and the tenant says there is no hot water. After taking my information, the representative informed me that the company does not service rental properties. When pressed as to why the company had such a policy, she could not answer and said she was just an employee and didn't know. - I was very disappointed.

Update - Given that you took the time to respond, I respect that and have updated the overall rating to a C "fair". As a (rental property) homeowner, I feel my experience was on the verge of unsatisfactory. Yes, you did say it was not your policy but you made no effort to explain why. It felt kind of like the proverbial waiter/waitress at a restaurant that says "sorry, not my table". It might have been a better experience if you could have said "...let me find out for you why that is our policy..." or, "...would you like to speak to the owner/manager..." - better yet, as a valued employee on the front lines of these calls, I think it would be beneficial for you to already know the answer. Secondly, your web site is very flashy and impressive, but gives no indication that you do not service rental properties (yes, there is fine print for the purchase/installation of a new water heater), but this was a straightforward service call. - I'm certainly not looking to flame or start a war of words here. For all I know, Service Professionals provides excellent service to its customers. I guess this is just a heads up for other rental property owners that they should not look to your company for services.

Chapman Bros. Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning
I found my hot water heater leaking in the morning, and called Chapman Bros, they told me they could have a tech here right around noon. They called me back at 10am and said a tech could be there in an hour.  He came installed the new unit took away the old unit and left the basement in good condition.  It took him at the most three hours to complete the job remove the old unit and finish the paper work.  Very pleased with the tech and his work.

Martin Feeney Plumbing & Heating, Inc.
I called Martin to assist me with connection of my 2 furnaces to my generator during the 2 week period after Hurricane Sandy.
Martin and his son arrived promptly at the time they said would and they were extremely friendly, professional, knowledgable and spent a great deal of time troubleshooting my appliances (furnace and water heater) with the generator I was using (turns out there was a generator problem!).
I will definitely call Martin again if I need assistance and would highly recommend him to anyone else.
