    Roy Targia Masonry

The renovation project as a whole was quite an undertaking, it included new fence install, refurbishing a swimming pool, patio install, and landscaping.  We spoke to a number of landscape specialists, many of whom wanted to bid on the entire job.  One of the things that I liked most about working with Roy, was that when we shared our "vision" of the project with him, Roy was not looking to take over the entire job but rather shared his contacts for recommended fence installer, pool repair, etc. This allowed me to GC my own job, collect bids from each professional separately, and manage conversations with each one directly.  In the end we selected all of the companies that Roy recommended.  Overall I felt this gave me a better assessment of total cost.

Roy was very patient with us in the decision making process, he took the time to meet with us at his showroom and show us a variety of patio pavers to select from.  He offered his professional opinions when deciding how to level out the property, deal with soil that had poor drainage, and keep the project within budget.

Roy's crew was very professional, his foreman, Joe, was a pleasure to work with, he kept me informed and checked with me regularly as decisions needed to be made on the spot.  The crew arrived early each day, putting in a full days work and cleaned up every day after themselves.  I was very impressed with how they managed the entire process, from debris removal, to back-filling the area around the pool, leveling out the property, and installation of the patio pavers.  Everything looks great!

As part of a backyard renovation project we hired Roy Targia Masonry to install patio pavers. The project included approx. 275 ft3 patio area with a step down to built-in swimming pool area that included an additional 1324 ft3 of pavers surrounding the pool.  Roy's team also managed the back fill of QP around the pool to level and prep the area for paver install,l as well as removal and disposal of old patio. Like all projects, there is always chance that unforeseen events may occur. Due to the pool renovation we needed more QP than was originally planned, Roy was upfront and fair in his assessment of additional expense. I felt that Roy was professional and responsive with all of my questions.  The pavers look fantastic.  Overall I am very pleased with the outcome and would recommend his services.

It went bad fast. We met with a few mason's and originally felt good with the decision.  Here are a few of the "minor" issues we faced: first, after deciding to use them, they wouldn't accept a $500 coupon as they said they had "already accounted for a discount in the price" - even though we hadn't mentioned it previously.  Next, when they installed a limestone tread, it cracked - and they still installed it.  My wife and I had to ask them to replace it after we realized they moved to another step and were not going to fix it. On another step, they didn't notch the tread enough and forced it in so the railing was now pushed outward to about 110 degrees.  They claimed it always looked like that until I showed them pictures and put a level up against it.  Fourth, the paver walkway was not well secured and shifted within a year.  Fifth, they concrete patio they poured had two puddle areas immediately after pouring.
The big issue though was when we tried to talk to them about fixing the bigger puddle area before the final $1,000 payment.  Father and son showed up to "look at the issue" and argued it out - after they threatened to rip up everything already done and implied that we may not even know they ripped it up, we paid the balance out of fear to get them off the property.

The cement at the top of our chimney had been wearing down over the years and I knew that if we didn't fix it, water would get in and cause issues when it freezes.
Working with Sam and his team again was great. This was a much smaller repair project after our larger job the prior year but they were just as fast and professional with quality work in the end. They were there over 2 days and had everything cleaned up and looking fresh when they were done.
I will continue to use Sam and his crew and refer them to others based on my experiences thus far.

Don't be afraid of the job cost - our entry steps go up about 8 steps to get into the house and the concrete footings are about 5 feet below ground underneath the steps - outside of new construction, footings are not something people ever see much less need to have re-poured - we were the exception and Sam was the lifeline.
We underwent a major excavation project that involved destroying our entry steps and footings and old concrete patio area. Sam was referred by a close friend we each had in common and we couldn't be more grateful. He was patient as it took us time to check around (yes, we got four other estimates) and pick out all of the new stone (a few times over).
Sam and his team are high quality (with an eye for perfection) true qualified masons. Sam was not the lowest estimate - but when I realized the difference between pretty looking stone decor and true masonry work that looks and works great - we went with him.
I've worked with three masons over the past 10 years and will only refer Sam moving forward. When my wife called to say she had the stone colors picked out finally, rather than take down three names on the phone, he insisted on coming over so we could make sure everything was on the same page and review all of the details.
His team was here for about 4 weeks (which was pretty fast if you saw the work) and cleaned up regularly each day and at the very end. He did some very tricky work with a 60 year old house foundation and made some really nice recommendations that we really liked.
    Here are some bonus points:
    - Smaller jobs - They aren't just about projects this big - I'll post a positive recommendation for a smaller job under $1,000 that he did separately.
    - Service/Guarantee - Sam has come back a couple of times, one time was just to meet so I could ask more questions on annual maintenance, and advice on anything I needed to do moving forward. The second time, I had a question about a piece of stone and asked him to take a look. I come home to find that that he and his team, re-grouted a section of our steps and adjusted a drain because he didn't think they looked up to par (without me asking). The original stone is fine (but if something happens he call him).

Everything has been great so far.  We are looking to include some stone elements into our "curb appeal" project.  This will include redoing the front porch and walkway, something that we would have had to wait on with the price of a competitor.
