  • We are thrilled with our choice to use JMC for our Kitchen/living room/dining room renovation. It was a big project that changed 90% of the first floor of our home. WE LOVE IT! We were incredibly nervous to follow through with this project, especially as friends and family each had a "kitchen nightmare" story to tell. The only friend who did not have such a story was the friend who recommended JMC to me! John has truly found the gems in the industry and combined them all into one company. From the moment we met the JMC team, we knew we were making the right choice. Tammy helped us design our kitchen in a way that made the process stress free - and the design of our kitchen makes so much sense! John spent days with us fine tuning the details of the design - and getting immediate changes from the architect when we had a new idea. Jack, the job site supervisor, was clear in communicating what was next for the job and coordinating everything. And Mario, the head carpenter for our project... is an artist. Everything turned out better than we imagined. Our town inspector was even impressed by the high quality work on the electrical work! The office staff is so organized and keeps everyone going behind the scenes. Our project turned out to be better than any pinterest picture! We LOVE the way everything turned out, and it is done with QUALITY materials, and the work is done RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. We met many times to go over the designs, process, and other details before the project began. We were given a clear start date, the team started on time, AND FINISHED ON TIME! 7 WEEKS! They came every single day and worked all day! Amazing! Every person who was working in our home was a true professional, expert, and artist. We felt that everyone working on this job cared deeply to do it perfectly, and they were respectful of our home and family. The process was easy for such a big job. (well, easy on us... the team was working very hard!) . We have 2 young children, ages 5 and 2. With 2 walls being knocked down and as I said, 90% of our first floor living space out of commission - plus the basement (we also had a beam installed to move 2 columns) we were nervous. It was easy to live here and feel safe. They cleaned up everyday, sealed off the work space, and most important, were predictable! I couldn't believe how stress free the entire project was, especially after hearing horror stories from friends, coworkers and family. They are the DISNEYWORLD of home improvement. By that mean high quality service, getting it done right the first time, and wanting their customers to be 100% satisfied. They cared as much about the process as they did about the outcome. (we are huge disney fans so that is one of the highest compliments we can give). Thank you JMC for your high quality work, and caring for our home as much as we do!

  • JMC Kitchen Remodel From project conception to completion, our experience with JMC Home Improvement Specialists of Parsippany was excellent. Every interaction with owner, office staff, site supervisor, and work crews was professional, friendly, and accommodating. Our kitchen footprint did not change, but the definitive 80s almond laminate with wood trim stock cabinets clearly needed replacement, and we got the look and quality we wanted working with this company. JMC owner John MacDougall visited our home and talked about needs, dreams, and options. A visit to the office and showroom gave us the opportunity to meet with Tammy, design expert, who expertly guided us through choices for style, materials, and colors, and soon we were scheduling the four week job to totally demolish our existing kitchen and watch the transformation to the new one. At each stage of the work, demolition, cabinet installation, tile work, plumbing and electrical, we greatly appreciated having one site manager to oversee each crew. Each morning we received a phone call to alert us to the arrival and start time of the day, and without fail, they were there. Our home was treated with care and prepared as well as possible for dust and debris, and at the end of each workday, the entire area was swept and clean when they left. As the job came to its conclusion, there was always a quick response and fix to any of our concerns or problems. At the end of it all, our project came in on time and on budget. We could not be any more pleased with our experience and would highly recommend JMC for any remodeling and construction. Bravo!

  • Sina and his team did a fantastic job finishing our basement. This company truly cares about doing a good job for its customers. They arrived when they said they were going to arrive and did what they said they were going to do each day. They worked with all other contractors we needed -- plumbing, electrical, etc. -- and took charge of everything. Our project finished on time, and our basement is wonderful. Highly recommended

They offer a small business and provide an individualized approach to their work. We love how our floors look and are so happy to have had Floors Direct do the work.

  • JMC developed a plan, and stuck to the plan. They came in on time and on budget. We are very pleased with the process and the final product. There were usually at least 6 workers onsite and sometimes up to 9. By the end of the project (almost 4 months) we felt like they were family.

  • How did it go? Horrible! A 4 month nightmare. Contractor's employees did many things wrong, which had to be redone and sometimes redone. Contractor was not on the job daily. Contractor kept requesting more money before job was completed and town inspected. He claimed he had to pay his workers. Question - what did he do with the 2/3 of $27k plus payment? Per his contract -- 1/3 upon contracting signing, 1/3 upon job commencement. 1/3 to be paid upon completion and town final approved inspection. Town goes by state codes, which the contractor should know and should know the state codes. Contractor blamed others for his permanent employees work. Contractor, per the town, had to secure the addition to the main house. He did not make sure the roof did not leak, after the "pull together". He would not take responsibility for the leaking roof. The leak caused damage to the new construction. Eventually, a new contractor was hired to resolve the problem, which cost more money. On a daily, basis, things were done wrong, went wrong. Contractor started in July 2015, finished October 2015. A structural engineer had to be hired at my cost. Then an electrician. Unexpected costs, on a retirees income / budget. He was recommended to a neighbor, who experienced the same problems with the contractor and his permanent workers. Some jobs had to be corrected or redone. Contractor requested payment before the final town inspection / approval. Examples of work redone - contractor stated a deck footing was needed. Charged half of his expense (?). Town rejected it, because it was not the state code specified 3 ft into the ground. Pavers were installed - that night it rained heavily. The pavers sank. Contractor had a PLYWOOD retaining wall installed. After a discussion, a concrete retaining wall was installed. The side entrance door was ordered wrong, they still installed it. Inexpensive stick floor tiles were installed on an uneven sub-floor - the sub-floor had to be corrected. Vinyl siding was replaced incorrectly. Had numerous gaps, in which water could seep in. This in only a partial list. I WOULD NOT REHIRE or recommend this contractor / company

  • John Cambouris was extremely helpful and professional during the planning process. There was some extensive demo that needed to be done beyond the scope of the big deal and he was very reasonable in the estimate. Jeff was the professional who completed the work and was very helpful in bringing up design options and questions. the work was completed on time and the bathroom looks great! We had some temperature modulation problems and Jeff came back as soon as possible to fix it. We are very happy with our new bathroom. John and Jeff were very professional, capable and I feel like we got a tremendous value! We are keeping their business card for future home renovations. I highly recommend them!

  • Fantastic!!!! We were keenly aware of the nightmares people have dealing with contractors. When we started this project we were very concerned and full of anxiety. Then we met Ralph and all of our angst quickly melted away. Ralph and his crew are the best of the best. We trust them 100%. We would recommend National Home Improvement to anyone.

  •   Be aware right from the start, that the carpenter/sales person who makes the sales pitch, whose carpentry skills you might trust/believe, may not be the one who does any work or supervision of your job. Our sales guy never returned after the project began. A completely new 'carpenter' is introduced to you and begins your job.  We were left with an unknown carpenter, and two man crew ( no hablo) with unknown skills to do our remodel which included the install of expensive custom cabinets, crown & trim.

The first carpentry crew assigned to our job underperformed. (grade D) Seemed unprepared. They had no dumpster. The debris was piled high on back lawn, without any tarp underneath. I am still picking up sheetrock, tile chips, nails, etc. They used a van to transport refuse.  They often didn't have the right materials. Found them using inadequate nailing patterns on the  ceiling sheetrock (16" apart with fine thread screws) and inadequate screw patterns  on the 3/4 " subfloor, and hardiebacker.  I had to watch them/supervise them for every aspect of the job. After several more problems witnessed, including  a newly constructed door hallway opening that was not level at the top, and a soffit above the cabinets that was not level, a sloppy install of a patio door, a  grazed electric wire, I requested the work stopped and  a new crew. Monk's management understood  and provided a new crew that were much better. At my request, they made corrections to all of the mistakes of the first crew. Overall, this new crew did "B+" grade work. I had to ask that a few of their errors be fixed also, but I was still happy with their work.

The price was  good compared to other estimates, but I would not recommend them unless you know basic carpentry and you  are there throughout the day to ensure that the job is done right.

  • Just under 10 years ago, I had remodeled both our master and hall bathroom, installing new cabinets, counter sink fixtures, lighting, and wallpaper/paint.  I stopped short of tearing out the aging fiberglass tub and shower enclosures, as they really weren't in bad shape and the scope of the work was greater than my time availability and skill level would support. With another 10 years gone by, the showers were definitely showing their age, and needed replacing.  However, the challenge given JMC was to accomplish the shower replacement without disturbing any of the prior work, which was still in great shape.
In addition, after living with a tiny laundry room for 20+ years, we needed to replace our washer/dryer, and realized that modern appliances simply were not going to fit in our tiny space.  John came out and discussed options with us, and we arrived at a plan to knock out part of a wall, extend our space into the garage as well as under the stairs, and create a functional laundry room with modern full-size stacking washer and dryer.  Again, the complexities of the design and the required movement of various plumbing and electrical components made for a challenging project.
Sitting down with John MacDougall and his designer, we arrived at a great layout for the laundry.  Through the process, John helped us to stay within our budget and avoid extra costs. Selecting the tile, fixtures and finishes for the laundry and the showers was made substantially easier by JMC's showroom, where we could see samples, compare colors and arrive at our decisions. We signed our contract at the end of September 2015, but explained that we would be having house guests through the Christmas holiday.  As a result, demo and (re-)construction didn't start until later in January, which was fine with us. George, who had previously handled our basement remodel, came in to do the demolition and construction of the new laundry, and Mario handled each of the bathrooms.  The crew put down floor protectors and plastic curtains in order to contain as much as possible of the dust and mess.  Because we needed a working shower, the bathrooms were done sequentially, and then Barb was brought in to handle painting the bathroom, ceilings, the new laundry, and an upstairs bedroom we had added into the picture.
The results are spectacular!  Each of the bathrooms has been transformed into a stunner, and the new laundry is extremely functional. Mario is a perfectionist and an absolute artist with respect to the tile work and fixtures - his attention to detail was incredible. The paint work is also top notch.  This is my third project with JMC, and at this point I wouldn't even think of calling anyone else. I highly recommend JMC for whatever your remodeling needs are - John is extremely knowledgeable, his crew are all craftsmen in the truest sense of the word, and Jack (project manager) does a great job of keeping everything running smoothly.
