Fireplace Repair reviews in Butler

Top Hat & Tails Corp Professional Chimney Services
Very punctual, timely and extremely personable. Did a thorough job of the inspection. But his estimates of the cost to repair were way higher than we got elsewhere. In retrospect, for inspections, one should hire a firm that ONLY does inspections. Too much probability for conflict of interest, if the firm does both inspections and repairs.

They were polite, informative and professional. He even went onto my roof and took a video so I could see what was going on with surface structure of my chimney. Thank you to Angie's list and to Flute Tech Inc.

    Interstate Ventilation
Our experience with this company was extremely disappointing.  We responded to a phone solicitation offering to clean our chimney  for $175.00, a special 'senior' price.  Three technicians arrived promptly at 1:00 PM.  They went onto the roof to inspect the chimney and reported the $175.00 offer was not applicable since the chimney was heavily coated with creosote and would require a different, far more elaborate technique to clean.  They said the new technique included multiple acid scrubs utilizing a chain drill bit. and would take the remainder of the day and into the following day.  The cost of the alternate technique was $1925.00.  The lead technician also advised against using the fireplace until the chimney was cleaned due to the 'dangerous' condition of the chimney.  It had been a number of years since the chimney had been cleaned so we were not surprised that extra time and effort were required although we felt $1925.00 was quite high.  Despite our misgivings we authorized the technicians to proceed.
Much to our surprise the work was completed within an hour.  Having arrived at 1:00 PM and departed by 3:00 PM a total of two hours time and effort was involved.  When this was pointed out to the lead technician along with our expectation the price would be significantly less than $1925.00 he replied the price was always $1925.00 regardless of how long the work actually took.  Since we had authorized the work we reluctantly paid $2225.00 (the extra $300.00 was for repairs to the chimney cement).  Had we been told the job COULD take between 1 hour and 1.5 days at a fixed cost of $1925.00 we would never have authorized the work to proceed.
The following morning we called the company's office to express our displeasure and to request a significant refund to a more reasonable price.  We were told the technique used was always done at a fixed price of $1925.00 regardless of how long it took.  Although we feel this is a very 'unusual' pricing policy the company has a right to use it as long as the customer is made aware of it.  We were not.  The technician said the work WOULD take 1.5 days.  At best this is a questionable business practice.  After some discussion we received a refund of $225.00 (10% of total price), an amount we regard as totally inadequate.  We most certainly will never use Interstate Ventilation again nor will we recommend it to anyone.

The young men were very professional and knew what they were doing.  They gave good information and didn't try to sell us additional things we didn't need.  My husband was so impressed he planning on buying a fireplace insert from them and having them install it.  I would recommend this business.

Guy knows his stuff. Did a thorough job on two different models, cleaned not just the stoves and pipes but also removed blower motors and cleaned fan internals and chambers. Both stoves clearly running better now. Really, he did a great job. And he cleaned up afterwards!
