Lighting Installation reviews in Bridgeton

  • EXCELLENT!!! I was so happy to have checked out the job and accepted the realization that this was a bit out of my limited expertise. Even after reading some books, watched some YouTube videos, and checked out some DIY websites. It all seemed pretty straightforward, but something nagged at me. In comes "Jack Flash Electric & Lighting". WOW!! ALL the wiring was out of code (was in code when home was built). There were shortcuts in the wiring to cross the circuit to the other side of the room. 3 of the 9 ballasts had already had signs of severe deterioration (melting), and unlike the videos, my situation was not a swap out. The entire area had to be rewired. It was all done in one morning. This was about one year ago and not a single problem has arisen. My electric bill dropped incredibly, basically the job has already paid for itself.

  • I had contracted with Dixie Total Home Maintenance about 6 weeks ago. I was well aware they keep pretty busy - probably because they do such good work! They were scheduled to arrive around 9am on 10/31, and they were absolutely on time and ready to go. Rick and Ryan got right to work, and did an exceptional job - along with providing a great deal of comic relief during the course of their time here. They are quite a pair! Both are exceptionally polite, friendly, funny, and a great team. The entire day had been scheduled for the work that needed to be done, and I fully expected it would require the full day. However, they finished early, and instead of the $700 full day rate for their work, I was only charged for the time they were actually here, which came to $490 including tax and supplies, of course. I am more than pleased and I have absolutely no doubt that this business will be first on my list when I need additional work done after the new year. Thanks, Dixie Total Home Maintenance!

  • One word: WOW!! The young man they sent out was Paul. Extremely nice, respectful, courteous, and knowledgeable. He explained to us exactly what he was doing and why, while he worked. Went over the circuit breaker box and explained how it worked and what to do if needed to upgrade. To date, the best $79 I ever spent. I would use them again in a heartbeat!

  • We hired Ashley Construction to complete a renovation of our basement.  We were expecting a baby and needed more living space in our home. The job was quoted to take 45 days maximum,  but they assured us it would be complete before the beginning of October (baby was due at the end of October).  At the end of 4.5 months (our baby is now 2.5 months old) of us constantly hounding them and with holding partial payment until additional items were complete the job is finally nearly, but not completely finished.  A fair amount of their work is spot on,  but they have not been detail oriented and some of the final details were lacking.

At the beginning and well into the middle of the job I would email them with issues that we needed resolved,  but at this point feel like we get a lot of lip service and the job continues to drag on.  We've conceded to ourselves to fix the issues once the contractor is gone just to get the job done.  Here is a list of some of the many items that have been an issue for us:

    •  They did not put a skirt of the stairs and then later used caulking that is bumpy and poorly done.
    •  Patch work was done on a wall because an outlet was missed during drywalling,  the repair work was poorly sanded (if at all) before being repainted.
    • The floating laminate floor was installed without heeding the manufacturer's guidelines thus voiding the 25 year warranty and with small gaps that detract from the appeal (we're still waiting to see how it holds up).  Ashley assures us they will warranty for 1 year,  but we are disappointed that our 25 year warranty is now void due to their 'professional' installation.
    • The building inspector was here several times and gave them a list of items to correct.  They did not complete all items and so failed again when he was called.  On at least one occasion, we had to call the inspector because corrections were not made and Ashley had indicated they would be moving forward with the work.
    • Large gaps of time went by when no work was done even though permits and inspections were in order.  Also,  a permit was not obtained until well after the job was begun (we found this out 1.5 months into the project when work stalled due to lack of permits)
    • Communication on when they would be here and when work would be done was spotty at best. Once the job was started, vague answers were given about a completion date, but never an actual estimate.  They are, however, very prompt and highly communicable in requesting payment.
    • A drop ceiling was installed in the bathroom,  but several of the ceiling tiles have holes in the corner where light comes through and it shouldn't.
    • When the concrete was cut in the basement for the plumbing no protection was put up to prevent the dust from entering the whole house through the venting or the side of the basement they were not working on resulting in dust through the whole house .  They promised to clean this up,  but waiting 4.5 months to remove the dust was a little much so we've done it ourselves.
We weren't expecting perfection,  but we were expecting a professional job done in a timely manner and that is certainly not what we got.  We could continue to list the issues we've experienced,  but feel this is representative of our experience. Feel free to contact me if you have questions or want to see additional photos.  We would hate for anyone else to be in the same predicament as we are - living in tight quarters and having to hound our contractors to finish their job.
