General Contracting reviews in Berkeley Heights

  • Work was completed on two separate calls which he responded to promptly. Once appointment dates were set, Gary updated me with texts to confirm the time. I had ordered the doors at a home improvement store & Gary picked them up prior to coming both times. Gary and his worker work efficiently and very neatly. When the exterior trim he brought was not a perfect match for one of the doors, Gary made some calls and left to get the exact trim. We have been happy with all of his work & he is the contractor we will call no matter what the size of the job. As a bonus, he loves dogs so they don't need to be kept in separate rooms.

  • Very poor work, very poor quality, dishonest in my opinion. Mario did a kitchen, 2 full baths, and 1 half bath in my home over the course of several months (almost a one year period), all projects ending Approx November 2015. All new cabinets, new tile floor, backsplash he did in my kitchen: cabinets are not even straight aligned, a separation (a gap) between my kitchen cabinets and the tile floor he did , the gap enough to place a credit card or two or three between, grout missing and coming out of areas of backsplash and tile, he did new outlets in my kitchen and I had to hire an electrician after he left when I found out the outlets were not done properly and not up to code. The list of issues goes on and goes on in my bathrooms. Again I have cracks and gaps and missing grout in tile surrounding my tub. I have a Gap , a separation between the tub and the area on the tile floor, the wall behind a new vanity in one of the bathrooms - he left it unfinished! The list of issues of grout and holes and cracks, things not done well , the list of issues just goes on in my bathrooms and my kitchen. He has our money and in my opinion he wasn't cheap. I regret having hiring Mario to do not 1 but 4 rooms in my home! The work was extremely poor and an estimate from an area contractor shows that it will cost us thousands to redo and fix. Not to mention that I feel he honestly deceived us, led us to believe he was a licensed contractor and I found out after the these issues and poor work came to light that he wasn't licensed at the time he performed our 4 room our 4 projects. Instead of enjoying 4 new rooms renovations and updating, I am stuck with so many issues that are my headache and my expense. In my opinion, there are many contractors out there. in my opinion I would stay away. I would not hire Mario and I would not recommend him .

  • Victor and his team did an exceptional job!!!  Before starting the work, Victor made a number of visits to our home to show us various products that might work on our house.  We had concerns that the lower part of the home is covered in brick and we did not know how this would work.  Once we decided on the Certainteed, he gave us a list of houses in the neighborhood so that we could see what the finished product might look like.   Victor showed a tremendous amount of patience while we decided on material, contractor and color.  He was never pushy or agitated with us.  I appreciated that as much as the work that was done.
In terms of the work, the team cleaned as they went along, so there was minimal disruption around the property.  Once the got the aluminum siding off the home, they did a thorough inspection for rotted wood.  They replaced all the facia boards as well as some plywood before they installed new material.
    The house looks amazing!!!
I cannot thank the team enough for the  work that they did.  I would absolutely recommend Magnolia to anyone who is looking for a contractor.

  • This was completed last year. I thought I already wrote a review but their work was so good I'm happy to write again with what I remember.
The estimators did a thorough walk around and explained in detail what needed to be done. All the workers, carpenters, painters, and clean up crews were punctual.
The painters distributed fliers around the neighborhood warning of possible lead based paint being removed before they tented the house and stripped the cedar shakes to bare wood. The painters contained all the sanded paint and cleaned up after work each day. They applied the paint on all the surface with a paint sprayer so the finish was smoothe, The trim was painted by brush. Thet did an excellent job.
The carpenters were very professional and made recommendations to the structure of the deck stairs so they wouldn't rot so quickly( the deck is 18 years old). They also did an excellent job. They cleaned up and took all the old decking nails and composite scraps away with them. I asked them to use a fastener system called Camo that utilizes a tool used in conjunction with a drill to sink the screws into the side of the deck flooring so you can't see the fasteners. It makes for a beautiful deck surface without any nails to re-sink when they come loose.
The carpenters ran out of composite decking stock and had to go to the Madison Jaeger's lumber yard to get more stock. They paid far less than I did at the Sterling Jaeger's lumber yard and I bought enough quantity to replace the entire deck. I took this information to the Sterling store manager and he refunded the difference which helped pay for more fasteners.
All in all I am very happy with the painting and the carpentry work. All of my neighbors commented on the excellent work and the colors we chose.
10 years ago I paid 4,000.00 to have the house sanded and painted. That crew spent most of their time sanding the back of the house that doesn't get much sun, all the damage is usually in the front. The boss came by on several occasions and pulled the crew
to go work on other jobs. It took almost 3 weeks to finish the job and they didn't even do a proper clean up. I was scraping splattered paint off windows for weeks afterwards.
So please make an appointment with Wilbur's painting you will not be sorry you did.
