Woodworking reviews in Barrington

  • Lance Dager is very professional, clean working, and polite.  We needed a new side exterior door for our 1950s house and it was not an easy job.
The existing door was very small, so a new door had to be custom ordered and Lance was quick to give us information (after first coming out to look at the existing door and measure) about doors that were available that were similar in look.  After we chose the door, Lance ordered it (custom size) pre-primed and when it arrived, he came on a cold day to install the door and it took him most of the day.  (There also was a screen door on top of it that had to be removed and re-hung.)  He worked very cleanly and made the door fit the existing frame and it looks and works great, now over one year later.
We know that not "just anyone" could have done this job as smoothly.  Lance is a CARPENTER first and foremost, and an excellent one, but works as a GENERAL CONTRACTOR.
In fact, the reason we hired him is because he had recently completed a 1-2 week kitchen remodel in my mother's home and she also was very pleased with his professionalism and work.

  • When my wife and I moved into our bungo-style home, the second floor, while dry-walled, carpeted, and otherwise and quot;finished, and quot; was uninsinulated, cramped, and largely unusable as a viable living space. Though we procrastinated doing the legwork of getting that space refinished, we did not waste any time starting our family. Probably the opposite order things should have been done, but hindsight is 20/20.
After watching way too many episodes of Holmes on Homes and building up a healthy paranoia about getting things done correctly, we ended up contacting nine different contractors via Angie's List, none of which were Wexford Builders! It was a chance visit to Ferguson Kitchen and Bath in Cherry Hill where we ran into Nick Altomonte, Wexford's owner and proprietor. Whether it was his confidence, his affable demeanor, his appreciation of good beef jerky, or his striking resemblance to Jimmy Fallon, we can’t say, but suffice to say, we liked him immediately. We did our due process none-the-less, meeting with all nine of the other contractors, and it came down to three. Wexford's price was right where we expected, but what gave us confidence were the measures he insisted on going to to make sure we weren't hit with any surprises or change orders later in the renovation. Our town of Barrington is notorious for the strict building codes, so, with Nick's urging, we hired an architect to draw up our plans properly to get a fast approval -- especially important considering my wife's due date was fast approaching. Looking back, we likely would have gotten screwed with either of the other two contractors because of an issue with our floor joists -- an issue Wexford’s architect solved in the building plans.
Construction started in October and finished -- I kid you not -- THE DAY BEFORE my daughter was born, just over 6 weeks later. Wexford's timing could not have been any more perfect. The schedule was followed to a T, and the only delay, relating to my wife and I having ordered a counter that would have taken far too long to arrive, was handled with aplomb by Nick and his crew, quickly finding and recommending a solution that'd get us a bathroom counter that we'd be happy with that fit the schedule.
So here we are, more than half a year after construction finished and we could not be happier with the work that was done. The master suite is gorgeous and expertly done from the hardwood floors to the drywall and paint to the gorgeous glass and tile shower work to the built-in cabinetry in the bedroom walls. Nick was present throughout the _entire_ process. He was a joy to work with, through and through, and I very much look forward to the next time we need the services of Wexford Builders, if not solely so that our daughter can finally put a face to that voice she heard so much last fall.
