    Oakwood Automation Systems
Our company has worked several times with Oakwood Automation, most recently on a very large home. The project went smoothly, products used were of high quality and questions were answered quickly. Another fine job was completed.

    BRITE LITE ELECTRIC, LLC
In a word, perfect. Communication beforehand was excellent, the electrician arrived on time, covered his shoes so as to not mess up my white bathroom floor, installed the light beautifully; even though there were some unusual aspects to the installation he was able to make them work. He was almost TOO nice! He liked the fixture so well that he asked permission to take a picture so he could show it to future customers if they had a bathroom where it might work nicely. Showed me how to change the bulbs myself and recommended a store for getting new ones. It couldn't have been better. Highly recommend.

It went great! Ben and Don came down to look things over and give me a free price estimate within a few days of my initial call to them. They were friendly, helpful, and clearly competent--and the price was reasonable. Just two days later, Don did the work. The installation was perfect, including a very neat repair of the cutout at the edge of the ceiling that had to be made to get the wire in place. Don left everything neat and clean, too. I wasn't charged for travel time, even though I live an hour away from their business! I'll definitely use Spectrum for my future electrical work and also to service my heating system.

From the initial contact I had good feelings.  Although it was after conventional hours I was able to speak to someone to come give an idea what I was faced with.   The initial appointment was on time and the crew could start as soon as possible.  It was just a few days later that they started and just three days later the job was done.  Shockingly it was prompt, efficient and the crew's attitude was great.  I can't imagine how they could have been better.

    RICHARD ELECTRIC INC
***Our experience was unusally good, so I feel it deserves a lengthy description***      Because we are new to the area, I asked my community's listserv for electrician recommendations and was inundated with great reviews.  Unfortunately, only two of the dozen responses were for the same person, so it was difficult to get a consensus or make comparisons between companies.  In the end, we knew we wanted a Kohler generator and the dealer for Kohlers in the Upper Valley is Richard Electric, so we thought we would buy from them and have the other residential electrical work we needed on our house done by a smaller firm.  I called one of the excellently-rated smaller firms and gave a detailed description and was told someone would get right back to me, and they never did.  In the interim, Tim M. from Richard Electric responded quickly and came over to assess our house and choose the appropriately-sized generator for our needs.  My husband and I were so impressed by his calm, non-pushy, and capable professionalism that we asked him do all of the electrical work in the house.  This was a good decision.        Tim and and his partner Grant worked on a multitude of projects that were overdue on our 30+ year old house.  As with any retrofit, surprises can pop out of no where and here is where I saw such a difference in the work ethic and thought process that underpinned these two men.  Rather than plough through (after all, we wouldn't know the difference), they stopped on numerous occassions to think-through less damaging ways to get the wiring routed to the difficult-to-reach locations.  For instance, they gently removed some base moulding in our kitchen to run an auger into the basement-- a difficult and awkward cut to make-- to accommodate new lighting in the dining room without leaving huge holes in the wall or floor.  I can see why this wasn't done by previous owners now, it was a lot of tedious work that requires experience and persistance.  They also found a way to work the wiring in an addition that had a low crawl space, carefully tapping to make sure they made small cuts through insulation and vapor barriers.  These and other lighting solutions have made such a positive difference in how we use our space, I'm glad we made the changes and stuck with our plan.  We all know how unlikely it is to stop an arduous project once you have full steam going, but that is what a good craftsman does when their intuition says they can deliver a better product- and Tim and Grant operate that way.      For those who have never had a generator installed, it is a lengthy process involving a lot of contractors if you don't already have a propane source for your house.  We had one installed in our old house, so I knew this would take some time.  I didn't appreciate how few propane dealers here would want our business because we use oil to run the boiler, and again Tim M. showed his dedication in lining up multiple dealers when the others fell through, or were going to charge us $6K to put a tank in our back yard.   I can't think of many house items that can't function without the involvement of totally disparate contractors, but generators are just such an item.  It was good to know that Tim wasn't going to let us fall through the cracks and was persistant in lining up capable people.  Shortcuts taken in the propane install or the generator hookup could mean no power in a storm, or a dangerous leak- so you want everyone rowing in the same direction.  Knowing that Tim and Grant are good team players gave me confidence that they were going to see this project was done right by everyone involved.      I hope Richard Electric manages to hold onto Tim and Grant and reward them for their hard work.  My Dad always said that the cream rises to the top, and you get rewarded for being excellent at your job, but in today's world it often seems that this does not happen.  Tim and Grant are good electricians who care about what they do and, on top of that, are nice and personable.  They are local Vermonters with strong ties to the area and above-average common sense.  They want to work with you to see your project to its best end, so I would gladly recommend them and are already planning future projects.

The experience with them was fine. One good thing was that they were able to come fairly quickly. Their demeanor at my house was fine and their price was reasonable.

They are not finished yet, it's been six weeks, they have been here like four.  They haven't billed yet either, so I don't know what is going on with them.   They quoted me on a licensed electrician and an apprentice.  The first day they showed up with the electrician and the apprentice, I had other people working for me at the time.  The next two day they showed up with just the electrician and he was gone for half the time.  Now they haven't finished what they've done, they haven't sent me a bill so I don't know what's going on.  They put in a new circuit breaker box and they re-wired ninety percent of my house, they haven't finished the last ten percent.  I only had the electrician for three days and they weren't full days.  The apprentice was only here for one day.  But they didn't finish the outside work, they are supposed to run a new line up to the house.  I have to contact the electric company and have them run a new line from the pole.  They did a pretty good job, I give them on the work they did, the part that I didn't like there was one circuit that they really didn't want to re-run, they had the time to do it, they just kind of avoided that.  I wasn't too pleased about that, they didn't keep a consistent schedule, they were confused on who was going to get billed what.  They were frequently short of the components they needed.  They had to order other parts.  The workers seemed competent and the management seemed to be non in touch with what was going on most of the time.  I don't know what the final price is.  They did the work they said they were going to do and like I said they never finished.  Very confusing to me.  No one else could do the work in a timely manner other than them.  I did have an Angie's list coupon, they said they were going to honor it.  I don't know because I haven't gotten a bill yet.  Theoretically that can save me some money.  It's a big company and I think what you get is varied performance out of them depending which guy comes to do the work.  They instructed me to pull a permit with the town, I pulled the permit, but of course they have not had any of the inspections done.  And they are supposed to take care of that part of it.  When I hire someone I like to have a fairly firm price as to what they are doing.  An idea of what they say they are going to do and a fairly good start and completion date.  And I would say none of those things really happened.  The work done was done well, but I don't even know what I owe them, let alone when they are going to finish.
