Hvac Repair reviews in Rochester

  • Excellent-Tom Eaves, Technician as well as Robin Frost, Customer Service were very good to work with. The part failed much sooner than expected. Heritage representatives understood our frustration and worked with us to resolve our concerns. Heritage has empowered their employees to resolve issues so that long term relationships can be developed. As well, they know how to make situations "win-win". Thanks

  • Went very well, job done with excellent expertise by Tom E. I found him to be very informative and helpful, would definitely use his company again. I did sign up for their protection service contract which seems sensible as I am using this company for my servicing of my boiler and also electrical work. I may have read the details wrong but I am sure being a member I should have not paid the $89.00 service fee, I will call the company and make sure. Other regret was not using the Angies List coupon which would have give me $50 credit, be nice sometime that companies who are members of Angies List remind customers of this offer.

  • Aaron from LaCoss Carpentry did an exceptional job at an affordable price. The scope of the project was expansive and all facets were completed to the highest quality standards. Aaron's communication is what sets him apart from other contractors. He was always on time and arrived when promised. The project site was always kept organized and clean. The cost of the project was discussed upfront and the entire process was very easy. I am extremely pleased with all work completed. I highly recommend LaCoss Carpentry for your next project. Give him a call and you will not be disappointed with the top notch quality and professionalism.

  • THE GOOD - The guy that did the cleaning was very knowledgeable, friendly and professional. THE BAD - When I called in to setup an appointment I was told it would be $118. I had shopped around for the lowest price so I snagged an appointment. A day before my service date I got a call and was told that i was quoted for a gas cleaning rather than an oil cleaning. And that price would be $190. I was a little upset but I can understand the confusion. Reluctantly i kept the appointment because of how long the waiting list was. She offered to shave $10 off for the mix-up which I appreciated, but i do not believe was ever applied to my bill. When the guy was done the cleaning i was billed for $210. The price inconsistency was very frustrating and a bit concerning.

  • I would highly recommend C.L. Doke.  I've lived in this house for two years, and the previous owners recommended him.  He's been servicing this furnace for 15 years, and it hasn't had any issues so far.
Pricing is very reasonable, he is prompt and professional, and ready to answer any questions I have.

  • I'll start by saying that the customer service personnel in both locations (Brunswick and Dover) are friendly and polite.
However their plans, contracts, and online account information are not clear, and their billing practices are questionable.
I first started receiving oil deliveries during the winter of 2013-2014, automatic delivery with 30 day billing.  My expectation was that they would need a short period of time to determine how often they would need to deliver oil, based on my usage, average daily temperature, and the size of my oil tank.
However, during all of that winter they came every 2-4 weeks regardless of how much oil I used.  This meant that oil bills ranging from $200 - $400 came sometimes twice a month at arbitrary intervals.  This made budgeting exceedingly difficult, but I never missed a payment.  I tried to work with the DE customer service to reduce the frequency of deliveries, as it doesn't make sense to deliver oil, then schedule a delivery for two weeks later when I'm only down a quarter of a tank.  On several occasions I was told that 'this would be the last time', when in fact it was not.
For the winter of 2014-15, they began delivery again when I was only about a quarter of a tank down.  I was determined not to repeat the pattern, and while their oil prices remain higher than some of the other companies in the area, I was reluctant to switch.  I decided to go with the prepayment plan from November to May.  I had to convince the customer service person to base the monthly payment on my usage last year, and not add 10% 'just in case'.  The staff person said that they would send me a payment booklet, and I would start paying a fixed monthly amount through May.
During this time, they slowed down the deliveries to occur when I actually needed them instead of every few weeks.  I never received a payment booklet, and the online account information did not reflect that I was enrolled in a fixed payment plan.  I called to confirm that I was indeed enrolled, and the staff person assured me that I was, and that I would receive the payment booklet 'soon'.   To this day I have not received a payment booklet, though I consistently made each of my payments.  To this day the website still does not reflect any contract details or plan enrollment.
Fast forward to today (end of April), and I found myself with a large balance left over and 3/4 of my tank full.  I called to see how the refund would be handled, and to confirm that I would not need to make the May payment.
The customer service person in Brunswick said that while I didn't need to make the final payment, my 'contract' was until September 2015, and I would not be refunded the balance until October.  She referred me to the Dover office where another customer service
person reiterated this.  I said that this was not acceptable to me, that they would hold onto a balance of almost $600 for 6 months before they would refund me.  I then asked what it would take for me to cancel the contract because I would like to switch oil companies.  The customer service person promised to call me back and discussed this with the office manager.   In under an hour she called me back to say they would refund me the balance and move me to a 'will call' plan, with 30 days billing.
Though I am happy with the end result, I am disappointed with this level of service.
I will be working with another oil company next winter.

  • I called Jeff for my annual furnace cleaning, but I had also noticed that the furnace seemed to be running all the time without the house ever getting above 66 degrees, so I suspected something else was going on.  Jeff was quick to return my call and scheduled me within a few days.  He called shortly before he arrived to confirm my address (and I appreciated the advanced warning of his arrival).  He came with one helper and they worked quickly and efficiently.  In addition to the cleaning, Jeff determined that the switch on my power venter needed replacing (which is why the furnace had been running all the time).  He had to run out for the part, but returned promptly and completed the repair. The furnace has run great ever since.  I was very pleased with the service and would definitely use Jeff again.

  • They spent hours and hours taking the furnace all apart and meticulously cleaning every little piece and the connections to the oil tank. They found a piece that needed to be replaced and we were worried when he said "if this doesn't fix you may need a new system." They were able to fix it for very little money - which I felt was very honest. Anyone in this type of position could say "you need a new furnace" and how would I know? I would just have to buy a new one. Strogen's actually looked for alternative fixes first.

  • I have been using Charlie Doke and his son for about the last 20 years. When I first called them, my furnace had gone on the fritz and it was over 10:00 on a Friday night. The previous furnace repair service didn't want to bother even returning my phone call. At the time I was living alone with my elderly aunt, and being women we had no idea what could be wrong with the furnace. Two days prior we had spent over $200 with the other furnace repair person, who now wouldn't return my calls. So I called my oil company, who recommended I give Charlie a call. He was here within the hour and fixed the furnace for a total of $40. He also told me that he could see what the other guy had done and he couldn't disparage the guy ethically but in his honest opinion he didn't think the parts installed were necessary. I've been calling on them ever since. About 12 years ago my furnace needed to be replaced, and Charlie did the replacement and then recommended that I use straight kerosene since I live in a mobile home and my oil tank is outside. Since I use kerosene I only need to have my furnace cleaned ever two years. So far nothing has needed to be replaced except for maybe a new filter or nozzles, just the general wear parts. Mobile home furnaces are only guaranteed for 10 years, but Charlie says from the looks of it we can easily get another 10 years or so out of it because it looks almost as new as the day he installed it!
I highly recommend C L Doke for all your home heating needs. In fact, I have recommended him to several friends, who all think very highly of him and his son and are now permanent customers. You won't go wrong if you call Charlie Doke and his son!
