We left our 9 year old pug at the The Ranch kennel late afternoon on Saturday of Easter weekend. As always we left two measured meals to be given that evening and the next morning.  On Easter Sunday we picked him up around 5PM.
At around 10 PM it was clear he was very ill, shaking, whining, with a now distended belly. He remained at the hospital two nights. X-rays showed a very large quantity of food in his belly. Tuesday morning his intestine ruptured and he died.
We believe he got into food meant for other dogs or unsupervised, he found an open bag of food and just kept eating beyond his capacity to handle it.

I took my older dog here for a couple of years before he passed away. The vets were wonderful with him. When I got puppies, I was assigned to the new vet in the practice. I decided to have my puppies altered so asked the vet about it. We decided to wait until the pups were 4 months before having surgery. The vet gave me no information about the surgery, including risks, cost, and the need for the female pup to stay overnight after surgery. I found this all out on the day of the surgery. I should have cancelled the surgery then. The cost seemed high as I had my former dog neutered for less than $50 but that was 15 years prior in a different state. The puppies did fortunately fine after the surgery. When I went to pick up my male puppy, I saw my female puppy and she seemed okay. I was told that I could pick her up at 8 am the following morning. I had to be at work at 7 am so I asked if I could pick her up after work in the early afternoon. The vet said it was fine. When I came to pick her up, in the early afternoon, I was given another bill for the additional stay. I was shocked because the vet did not inform me of this extra cost. I refused to pay it and they let me take my puppy home. A few months later I picked some heart worm medication from the vet and I paid for the medication but did not look carefully at the bill. They had slipped in the cost of the extra stay with the medication. I really should have looked at the bill. I had such a good experience prior to working with the new vet but I am going to look for another vet.

The answering service was extermely helpful and helped to calm me down, then immediately connected me with Dr. Pinello.  After a brief phone consultation, she asked if I wanted to bring the kitten in to the office (it was about 11:30PM at this point).  Distraught, I absolutely wanted her to see my sick kitty.  She met me at the office within 15 minutes, and took very good care of my cat.  She was very honest about the fact that he might not make it (he really was incredibly sick), explained everything she was doing, and gave me explicit instructions for caring for the kitty overnight once I got home.  I'm so grateful to say that my kitten recovered and is now doing just fine (and is almost a year old!).  I became a patient of Dr. Pinello for the remainder of my time living in Hanover (I was a student, so have now graduated and left) and my two kittens had such good care!
