    I was referred to go to this shop from a friend at church. We got on the topic of car repairs and I typically go the dealer since I didn't find my old mechanic convenient anymore, and wanted to save a little.     Going to get your oil change always seems like a hassle, especially if you have to wait in the mechanics place. Let's face it, most of the time they're dirty.  However, Mark at Monroe Muffler made all the difference and I could have spent even MORE time reading the letters customers wrote to Monroe Muffler, and specifically Mark himself regarding their wonderful services and professionalism. I did bring school books to keep myself busy, but the comfortable couch and television to myself had me procrastinating, just like I would have in the comfort of my own home.  Mark was great, he rang me up, he clearly performed some service as the grease all over his clothes and fingers told me, and he was extremely professional. I never once felt like he'd try to rip me off and he was looking out for my best interest. Did not try to sell me anything I didn't need.

    Repair was done when promised and Second Car provided loaner for that time, also. We couldn't pick it up right away and it was no problem to keep the loaner an extra day. In general: I've been going to Mark and Pete for over 20 years and have had all repairs, inspections, and purchased several used cars. Very fair, very helpful, very open - an excellent car repair and sales experience for me for a long time..

    I have been going to Monro in Hampton for 14 years. The guys working there, particularly Joe and Kevin, have always been courteous and helpful. I have used them for everything from a simple oil change to transmission work. I feel I get honest advice about what service is needed - or not needed. You can tell the customers that come in have been there going there for years and treated like a friend. Highly recommended.

    This is my second repair done by Lous. They replaced a catylic converter last year for me at the best price around. I was a walk in and was serviced almost immediately although they were quite busy at the time. Fullt explained what the problem was and why it happened. I returned this inspection for a check engine light and was told it was my gas cap. But I had noticed a lot of rust on mu miffler. I was informed it was not leaking but may not last too long. I asked if they could replace it right then and they said sure. I was in and out in about a half hour. Completely reasonable priced and the workers were excellent. They will see more of my work in the years to come.

    They replaced the power steering Rack & Pinion, but after driving home, the exhaust pipe made a rubbing sound and vibration, I called, and took it in for an oil change which was due, and for them to check the work they had done after I explained what was happening. They checked it over and said the rubber boot had burned off ( from what I don't know, I assume the exhaust pipe), they now said to bring it in again and they would put a rubber boot on for nothing, but after leaving there again, the exhaust now has a rattle to it, so now I will be going in for the rubber boot and hopefully to fix the rattle in the exhaust, I find that when ever I go there for something, my car runs worse after I leave. So today I took the day off because you have to drop your car off, went in so they could replace the boot and I explained that now the exhaust was rattling, she says "I don't know how we could be causing all these problems" when I said everytime I leave here I have another problem. When I picked it up today, she said she fixed the rattling. I took off and was apprehensive about what was going to happen next. I was just a few hundred yards away from there when I noticed the red engine light was on, so back I went, she tested it with a small machine, said "ok Shirley I took care of it, the engine light is out". I got into my car made it a little further than the last time and on comes the engine light. At this point I told myself, I will cut my losses and go to another garage..I would not recommend that place to anyone nor will I ever take my car there again. This is a followup, after I left there deciding to cut my losses after engine light came back on, I stopped at the Subaru place where I bought my car because the engine light on scared me. He took it into the garage, after a while he told me that whoever was doing my oil changes must have broken off the dip stick to the Differential fluid, the piece was still in there and the fluid was almost empty and burned black, I don't know just how long ago that happened, but even if it was before going to Auto Doctors, they should have noticed it when they did at least 3 oil changes for me. This diagnostic for the engine light and the Diff fluid problem cost me 115.00, but that is not the end of it, I have to have the 02 sensor replaced, the light is for the oxygen sensor. Isn't that conncected to the exhaust?, when they could not fix the exhaust rubbing, then rattlling, did they just disconnect the thing to get rid of the noise? She had told me that they did have to remove the exhaust to replace the rack & pinion, the exhaust never worked the same again. Shirley

    I was home visiting my parents and my dad reminded me that my inspection sticker would expire this month. So first thing on Sunday morning, I go to here to get my state inspection done. They told me that I had a tail light out. Really? My dad & I had just checked them before I took it for the inspection. OK, bad timing/coincidence, whatever. So they failed my inspection and offered to replace the light for $22. A bit excessive for changing a light, so I decline to have the work done and said I'd change it myself. They told me to get it fixed and bring it back. So, I went to Walmart and bought a new light (for less than $2) for the car, put it in, checked that it worked and took the car back to show them that I had fixed the problem. I got there and they told me that they couldn't check it because it was after 9 a.m. now and they only do State inspections until 9 a.m. and told me I needed to come back tomorrow (Monday) between 7 and 9 a.m. This didn't work for me, because I would be back at school and could come during that time. So, I drive back the following Saturday to show them it was fixed. They verified that the tail light was fixed and charged me for another state inspection. If I was going to have to pay for another inspections, I would have saved the time and gas and had some place more convenient do it. I am partially to blame as I made the assumption there would not be additional charge; however, the communication implied it by telling me to bring it back, rather than have it reinspected. When I questioned the charge, the manager on duty (Aaron) became confrontational and even defensive. Even after I had paid for the reinspection, Aaron continued to be rude and was bad mouthing me in front of the other customers. The customer service here was poor at best. I would not recommend them to anyone. I understand that they are trying to make a living; however, it appears (from my experience and the other reviews on here) that their work practices are to make sure that they can get more money out of each state inspection customer than just the maximum allowed (by the state) charge for the inspection itself.
