    These guys are friendly, professional, prompt and can meet a deadline no problem. We wanted everything done in order to serve Easter dinner in our new home and they did it all in 3 days. Plus the price was great - I'd hire them again in a minute.

    Allied provided an estimate of $10,763 to replace the roof on a house we were purchasing. The mortgage company required us to put $10,763 into escrow at the closing. This price was based on an exterior inspection and included: removing the old shingles, installing new framing, installing new sheathing to the entire roof (4x8 plywood), installing blocking, installing Ice & Water shield to the entire roof, installing a new drip edge, installing 30 year architectural shingles with a ridge vent and removing all garbage. This estimate indicated that all labor and materials were included in this estimate and that all work would be performed by Allied. We agreed to have this work completed. Dave Garey required that we give him a deposit of 50% of the total job, so he could order the material. We contacted the bank (with the escrow) to cut a check to Allied. The bank would only furnish a check to Allieds supplier. We told this to Dave and he became very defensive and refused to provide the bank with the actual cost or list of suppliers (claiming he orders from so many suppliers, it would be too much work to provide a detailed list.) We trusted this guy and cut a check for $5,382 out of our savings account to make the down payment. Several days later, his supplier (only one) delivered all of the materials in one truck load; but there were items missing. Nowhere to be found were the estimated 40 8'x4' sheets of 1/2" plywood, no 2x6's for support and only a few rolls of Grace Ice & Water shield. Two days before the job was to begin, his roofer subcontractor shows up to drop off a few ladders. We were never told that this job was being subbed out. Day 1: Once half the roof was replaced, Dave tells us that he has "good news" and that they didn't need to resheath or support the roof. Also, he didn't think there was a need to cover the entire roof with Ice & water shield so he only installed a limited amount. He kept telling us that this job was going great and that "we had credits coming back". Day 2: The roof was complete and Dave gives us an invoice for the full $10,763 (minus the down payment). He asks us to get a check from the bank for the remaining $5,381 and that he will cut us a check for the ?credits?. His invoice didn't give a breakdown of cost and he became very defensive when we asked for a proper invoice. He said he would credit us $700 for the materials he didn't need to buy. We refused to cut a check without a proper invoice. We also questioned him on where was the credit for the labor to install all of that material not purchased. He then claimed that his estimate didn't include "that" labor. The next day he comes out to our house to bring a new invoice. Now he has taken off the $700 and has given a bogus breakdown of costs. At that point, we said we needed time to review and would be in touch. He then starts to call our house asking for the check, so we send him an email stating that we are disputing the amount and that all communication now needs to be in writing. He then sends an email stating that he will be over to collect the check or "Strip the roof". Long story short; we needed to get the police and a lawyer involved. Five months later, we settled out of court. Allied does decent quality work but Dave is a very unprofessional business man. Homeowners beware.

    Al's gave us an estimate which we thought was reasonable and got started quickly. However, they made quite a mess including getting ceiling paint on floors, lamps, and other furniture. After the first day, they left the house a mess and then didn't come back for a week! We had to call a few times to ask if they were even coming back. When they did come back, they made a mess again and ended the job poorly. There were spots that were clearly not painted well. They didn't put anything back together... left the outlet covers all off, didn't put screens back in or light fixtures back on. They also missed one section and we called many times to ask them to come fix it. They never answered. Finally, my husband drove to their office and called them on his cell phone while sitting in the car. The receptionist looked at the phone and then just didn't pick it up. The man who did our estimate was great, nice, professional and informative, and he communicated very well. I wish I could remember his name, because he himself did a good job. However, the services he promised were not delivered. For example, he said our doors would all be brought to their shop and spray painted. Instead they took over our basement to spraypaint them, which wasn't a huge deal, but why say they'd do otherwise? The painters left their trash around as well, and it was hard to live in the house for the week they took to come back and do the second day of painting. It took my husband and I a total of six hours to sweep up, put everything back together, and throw out all the trash like drop cloths, etc. We still have lamps with ceiling paint splatters though. Really, we could have painted just as well ourselves. If we paint inside again, I'd absolutely look elsewhere. I'd also ask about their clean up procedures.
