    FORGE POND MARINE
As stated above I have been happy with the expertise of the mechanics at the shop and recommend them to any family or friends. I particularly trust the pricing and agree with the sign hanging in the shop that states "if you can't trust us your in the wrong building"

Things continue to go well. They know and undertand that the boating season is short in New England, and they make every effort to get you in and taken care of quickly.

    FORGE POND MARINE
I searched for solutions to keep our 65 year old Boston Whaler seaworthy for a few more years, and found that no boat yard would undertake what sounded to them like a hopeless task - and I was unwilling to transport it hundreds of miles back and forth just to have boat yards look at it an turn down the challenge. It seemed like the boat needed just about everything. The gelcoat was crazed, the bottom paint was flaking off, the furniture was old and rotted, the hoses, filters, wiring, etc. was all suspect - but the motor was just a few years old. We joked that we should jack up the motor and replace the boat. But there is something in me that is satisfied by keeping an iconic item like our very early Boston Whaler, in good shape and still usable. I dropped by Forge Pond Marine and talked to them about my boat, and initially they told me that they didn't take on "restorations" - the sort of extensive work our Whaler needed. But a few days later they called me and told me that they had just finished a large job - not as extensive as mine - and if I was interested in seeing it, to stop by. I did, and after we talked some more, we hopped in a truck and drove to my home where the Whaler was and after looking it over (and lots more talk), they agreed to take on the task. They warned me that they wouldn't be able to work on it full time, as they are a small shop and they needed to take care of their other customers. We agreed that I would not have the Whaler for my vacation, and that they would work on it as time permitted. We discussed in general terms what we hoped to accomplish, and they started working on it. When the unexpected came up, they would get in touch with me and I'd drop by, talk over options with them, and they would continue. Over the course of the many months the restoration took, they came up with many, many good suggestions and clever ideas and solutions to problem after problem. When the job was finally finished, neither myself nor my wife could believe the results. We were STUNNED! Our Whaler had a new lease on life, and looks just like it did the day it came off the assembly line. Forge Pond Marine was the perfect choice for our Whaler restoration. We couldn't be happier or more satisfied with the work or the personnel. I would recommend it unreservedly. It it weren't for Forge Pond Marine, we wouldn't have any boat.

It is a pretty good marina and we have been living there for about 7 years. I use them because they have year-round live-aboards and they have great facilities. There are not many marinas that allow you to live on your boat all year, but they do. It is reasonably priced because it is based on the length of your boat. In downtown Boston they are very reasonably priced. You sign a contract and then they bill you monthly. Other boats can come in there overnight. They are very professional and very good. It is not the most expensive, but it is not the cheapest.

    Sunset Bay Marina
I'm not sure what it is about the Marine Trades which makes getting work done often an unpleasant experience and almost always too expensive and over budget. If you own a boat and seek the help of others to keep up with it's never ending list of maintenance tasks, you know what I am talking about. On the too rare occasion when you find a marina and / or tradesman that competitively bids a project, performs the work on-time and on-budget they deserve to be recognized. So with that in mind, let me add a hearty endorsement of Sunset Bay Marina and it's staff reflecting the great experience I have had so far. This year I decided to have a number of projects completed which included mechanical, electrical as well as interior appliance replacement. I wouldn't call it a major refit - it is more like a minor refit but none the less a reasonable amount of work is involved - at least enough to get the Admiral's attention. I made contact with all my favorite and not so favorite tradesman, riggers and electricians about my projects. I soon realized that just managing this process was going to take years off my life trying to coordinate and make things happen. It was at that time the light bulb finally came on and I decided to hang on to my sanity and give all the projects to a single source. After contacting many and quot;full-serviceand quot; marinas and either not getting a call back or gagging at the rates, I settled on Sunset Bay Marina. Lets face it, for many of us our boats are like our children - expensive and temperamental. But if they need something we want to make sure they get the best care and that we are kept informed all along the way. Such is the experience I have received from Sunset Bay Marina. Whenever I felt the need to speak directly with the personnel working on my boat, I have been able to do that and have always been afforded enough time so that I fully understood what was going on. As a customer what do we want. We want a marina and / or tradesman to give us a competitive bid, a realistic time frame and the quality of work commensurate with the price we are being asked to pay. We don't need the cheapest price. We have all heard the axiom and quot; The bitterness of poor quality last far longer than the sweetness of low priceand quot;. We want to be kept informed as to the progress and we don't want big surprises when the bill comes. If that happens you know you're either being screwed or your dealing with someone to incompetent to have given a qualified bid in the first place - either way, it isn't good. If you are going make a mistake and put a screw through my hull, make it right and don't give me one excuse after another and leave me hanging right before the short boating season begins (Yes - you know who are). In a word, we want to be treated fairly. To be honest, I can't really speak authoritatively on the quality of work as I live in New Hampshire and Sunset Bay is in Hull and I'm buried under 10' of snow so can't get down that often. But, I have no worries about that. I am fully confident that Sunset will stand by their work and do whatever is necessary to insure my satisfaction. That's just the feeling you come away with when you work with Sunset and it is what others have attested to. You see, this is a business that wants my business and you're business too. It's a little refreshing actually - as so many others in the marine trades just don't leave you feeling like you mean anything to them. So in conclusion, if you need some work done on your boat by a competent team of professionals at a fair price I would recommend giving Sunset an opportunity to bid on your project. I think you too will be pleased with what you find.

We keep our boat there. Everything has been fine. They also store the boat for us in the winter. The repair guys are really nice and pleasant. They are polite and they do what they say they are going to do. They are very nice people. The boat is always ready when we want it. We have been using them for about 5 years now.
