    Andrew came to my home the day after I called. He assessed the problem and made his recommendation with his estimated cost. He returned one week later to install the broken part. He was right...the washer worked. I paid 1/2 up front and the remainder when the job was surprises. Andrew was totally professional. I would use him again.

    Gill's secretary contacted me after I called and explained how they charge for their services: $80.00 for the initial visit for diagnostics, no other charge for repeat visits in case they had to return with parts. Then, $1.00/minute or up to $60.00/hour for labor. She also said they would arrive between 3-5 P.M. and would notify us a 1/2 hour before arrival to give a quick notice, which she did. Gill and his apprentice arrived at 5:30 P.M. that Thursday; his apprentice worked on the dryer and Gill worked on the dishwasher. The clothes dryer had a blown fuse which they replaced. The cause: overheating... the exhaust vent tube had 7 years of lint in it. I didn't realize that had to be cleaned along with the area under the vent screen. I had been regularly cleaning the lint screen and outlet vent. Gill lectured me about all the areas of the clothes dryer needing yearly cleaning. The dishwasher motor which Gill had disassembled had a ceramic chip from a plate in it which had caused the motor to seize up. He showed us the chip. So, Gill had to order the motor parts and said we would have to pay ahead in case he was stuck with a part from a client that canceled the repair. Gill explained he uses new parts, not used which he gets wholesale from one supplier. So, we paid him by credit card, $381.00 for everything: diagnostics, labor and parts for both appliances. He returned on Tuesday as he said he would between 3-5 P.M. and we got the 1/2 hour phone call notice. Unfortunately, the part he brought that day was slightly dented when he pulled it from the box and he had to return it for another. Again he and his apprentice came back Thursday afternoon and repaired the dishwasher in less than an hour. After the repair, he spoke to my husband and I about how to care for our dishwasher: use Glisten to clean the interior and Jet dry (a must) to protect glass. Both Gill and his apprentice were courteous and respectful. They arrived on time. Both worked quickly and didn't leave a mess. No scratches or dents were seen on any of my appliances. My only minor complaint was after the dryer was cleaned there was dust and lint around the area near the dryer which is understandable; I wish the apprentice would have given me a heads up so I could have gotten my clothes off the clothes line in the cellar near the dryer. But this is minor. I would use Gill again. I have already spoken about him to relatives and friends. It has been several weeks now, and both appliances work just fine.

    Since the house (colonial) has baseboard hot water heat, there was no ducting for central A/C - initial attempt for central air was far too expensive. Researched and decided upon the Mitsubishi split system and decided to call only Mitsubishi Diamond dealers (for quality) for estimates. Choose this dealer because of price, practical knowledge, and ability to defend and satisfactorily respond to questions. All dealers interviewed appeared very competent - one was the "Cadillac" and beyond my budget and one did not do the electrical work (had to hire an electrician separately). Cal's offered the best value, no frills, but just what I needed. Two workers came at 8:30 AM and they were complete by 1:00 PM. A slight delay in retrieving a correct part, otherwise they would have been completed sooner. Very clean and professional operation - cleaned up as they went along. Care taken to minimize cable runs and to install units with minimum intrusion to house. Ernie returned later in the day to explain operation and to show how to operate the remote control - offered opinions based on personal experience on what features worked best. Final price was the same as the estimate. Great advice given on the heat pump capability which has proven to be a pleasant benefit not previously planned. Units look great and blend well with the outside and inside of house. A couple of DIY friends have looked at the installation and gave it the "thumbs up". Next summer will test the A/C effectiveness and may do a follow up report, but judging from the performance thus far, I don't expect any major issues. Since the other two BRs aren't used much, we can keep the MBR door open for upstairs A/C and supplemental heat. Follow up report.  AC has worked well even during the "heat wave".  No complaints.  We are very glad to have had this system installed!  The only comment is that the finished basement has not been kept as cool (hovers at 79-83F) as we thought it would by just keeping basement door open and allowing cool air to flow down.  May need to install a unit for the basement in the future to provide better control, especially for large groups.  So far, the reliability has been great, very quiet, and quick to cool (and heat).  Our guests have been very impressed and have shown much interest in the system.
