Most of the floor turned out good but they had some mistakes they needed to fix. They came back quickly to fix them but the seal coat doesn't match the original anymore (still need to fix this). They said wait a whole month and maybe it will look better (it's not looking better after 2 1/2 weeks so far). Also, the damaged the wall in the bathroom with their equipment but they are taking the price to fix wall off of the bill.

    AG Contractors Inc

When I first got a bid from AG contractors, they seemed to be the better choice for finishing our basement, as we were getting most of the materials ourselves and not utilizing their vendors. We decided to go with them as they were neither the most expensive nor the cheapest and Rob (Owner/Contractor) assured me everything would go smooth and they check on the work done weekly if not bi-weekly. That was the last I saw him for about a month until he wanted money. The worker Josh is probably the best worker they have. There is no communication between the office and the workers, the original drawing had the bedroom on the opposite side of the stairs, and however, when they gave the layout to josh to start framing he had it coming down the stair, NEVER WAS THE PLAN!!! Minor details so we had that moved and corrected. The biggest problem throughout the job was the lack of commitment, they would work hard for a week or so and then just not show up for a couple week, because they had other things to do, so in the meantime my basement is just sitting there waiting....and waiting. So they finally got the framing done after about three people were hired and quit or got fired.

Once the frame we up they brought in a drywall crew and the entire basement was dry walled in a single day, so all they need to do was lay the floor and paint. Well one week went by didnt see anyone, then two weeks went by, nothing not even a phone call saying we will be there next week. Finally, I called Rob and asked him what was going on, he informed me that the paint crew was going to be busy and they were going to install the floor then paint!! I put a halt to that as I was having white carpet installed and the walls were to be green, you are not going to paint after the floor. Therefore, they sent out the paint and mudding crew. That was a chore from h***!!! They got paint on the ceiling, baseboards, and light fixtures, everywhere. The mud on the ceiling they could not match from what the dry Waller did so they decided to come up with a mixture that should do the trick, well it didnt!!! It is still the wrong color, and their solution was they could re paint the entire basement but they werent sure how to do it. Therefore, we decided what ever just leave it.

The job was to be completed on September 15, 2012, although they assured me it would not take that long what so ever!! As we were only at the beginning of August when the drywall was up and being painted and sanded, although as stated earlier, they just quit showing up!!! Therefore, the final day came and the basement was for the most part finished except my icemaker was not hooked up. Therefore, the Owner, Rob, said he would come out and get it hooked up for me. Great, I'm think it is finally OVER!!!! Therefore, he showed up and hooked up the icemaker with his 7 year old, no problem, we said thank you and he left. We were hoping to NEVER have to deal with them again.

Unfortunately, about 3 weeks later, we noticed a puddle of water near our icemaker. Thinking there must be something wrong with it, I called the company and they sent someone out the next day to look at the icemaker since it was under warranty. Although, when they came out and looked at, they noticed something not normal..... A garden hose hooked up to my $1000 icemaker!!!! Thats right a $5 garden hose.... to make matters that garden hose was hooked up to my dehumidifier in the furnace room. Therefore, they STOLE my garden hose that I bought from Wal-Mart to hook up my $1000 icemaker!!!! The hose was so badly kinked it still has not come out. Therefore, I thanked the repairman, and told him who did the job as he was getting ready to have his basement done.... So I gladly told him.

The next day I called AG contractors and explained to them what had happened, and their new foreman Brad, apologized and said he would be over the next day to look at. Sure enough, he did, he looked at the damage, and there was a lot of damage!!!! So he said to order new floor and he would pay for it and get it installed. Great, so my wife and I ordered the floor as it had to be special ordered. So a month later the floor comes in and Josh shows up to install it. We are finally thinking yes it is now November as we can have our basement back and we are done!!!

Not quite, the floor is separating, there is spaces about the width of a Credit card, thicker is some areas. So they send Josh back out to fix the issue. Which he comes about a week and a half later and tells me to stay off it for 48 hours and he is going to put some weight on it and that should take care of it.

Great, three weeks later..... It is separating AGAIN, and now I have drywall tape and paint coming off as well as the baseboard is separating, by almost a 1/4". So I called Josh as I am tired of dealing with rob although he says that he cant just come out he will try to talk to Rob about him coming out. Two weeks have passed and I decided to call Rob myself on Friday January 12, 2013. He gave more excuses then solutions on how to fix this issue. First, its my floor, I bought crap floor, I could have spent $0.50 per square feet at menards and it would have been better wood floor then mine. Then its because I walk on it, then its because I didnt have a separate between the carpet and the wood floor in the bar area. Well I have that same set up throughout my entire house and have no problems!!! He said that he would send me an email of ideas on how to correct this issue and get someone here first thing next week!!!

Here it is as I am typing this Tuesday, January 15, 2013 and no show no call no email!!!!!! I finally called them to see where anyone is and how we are going to correct this. Unfortunately Rob is in Iowa, and not there. However, I did get to talk to Brad, the one person besides Josh that seems to care about the job instead of the money!!! Brad assured me he personally would come out tomorrow and at least evaluates the situation, as nobody has even come to see the damage, except Josh and that is to fix the damage. You would think that if I am getting a phone call every month about the same problem I as the Owner and licensed contractor would want to personally come out and see what is going on. Unfourtunetly, that is not the case, I have never seen anyone after September 15, except Josh to correct the issues and Brad to see the water that the garden hose created.

So that is where I am now, over 6 months for a simple basement remodel and I am still dealing with this. I will update as I am updated, but I just wanted EVERYONE to know.

Tim is very timely, professional, he takes your input seriously each step of the way through the project. He is as good as there is (in my opinion) on cabinets, flooring, etc.
