Concrete Repair reviews in Bennington

  • The initial estimate was provided promptly. The work had to wait until after other contractors did their work. Business owner was kept informed of progress of other contractors by the homeowner. An employee of the business showed up about a month after the last contractor left, without identification or notification, just started setting up on the front porch. That employee was rude and perhaps drunk. He was fired about a week into the job by the owner for damaging another job site. The homeowner discovered that a potted plant smelled of urine and was dying immediately after the surly employee was fired. Business owner denied that his employee could have killed the plant and started shouting at the homeowner and demanded payment (see below). Homeowner made payment to get the work finished. Crack filling was done satisfactorily after that point. Brick work went satisfactorily, except that the owner would not properly clean the brick of efflorescence as promised and left the homeowner with the acid to do it herself. After 3 weeks of off and on work and after the argument with the homeowner, the owner texted to say that he required payment of 1/2 of the estimate, with everything torn up. (The written estimate specifically said no payment until the end of the project. ) Business was tearing out and pouring concrete that another contractor had botched. This concrete work was mediocre at best, has sunk and is already cracking. See pictures. Part of the estimate was to seal the brick, porch, sidewalk and driveway. The owner said that the wanted too much, sprayed some of the brick and porch and all of surrounding vegetation, dribbled sealant on the sidewalk and sprayed the new concrete. Owner was asked on Sep. 3rd to come out and look at cracking concrete and to caulk where the concrete has sunk. Owner said today (10/16) that he was paid in full, that homeowner had no complaints at the time the work was done and that no caulking can be done since the concrete was sealed. The homeowner had been impressed with his repeated assertions that his company will stand behind its work. Unfortunately, the owner will not stand behind his work.

  • Concrete work was amateurishly done. The finish was rough, uneven and already crumbling at the edges. The finish was not smoothed out to create edges, like the other concrete panels. Jason offered to apply a vinyl patch to the crumbling area. After thinking about it and asking for a second opinion from another contractor, I asked that he tear out the work and do it again. He refused to do so. I had already paid $600 of the $800 that he quoted for the work. He did not refund money, feeling that he had done the work for which he was contracted. The drains were installed. I had to have a landscape company reset the drains so that they were not above ground level. The drains do make a difference during heavy rain events.

  • Had a small weather delay because of the wet spring, but kept in touch with Mike during the process. We talked about a week before the project and then again as it got closer.  Mike met me at my house the night before they were to begin and went over a few last minute details and told me to expect them first thing in the morning.  His crew showed up on time and went to work tearing out the old crappy looking concrete.  By the end of day one there was a new slab curing. His guys did a great job minimizing the impact to the yard and it was obvious to me that they were being careful to cause as little mess as possible. On day two they started to place pavers and cut pavers for the curves I had designed into the patio.  As I arrived home on the last day I was able to watch as Mike worked with his crew to place the paver steps.   He and his employees were curtious and worked hard to complete the entire project in two days.  I appreciated the fact that once they started the project they kept after it until it was completed.  Mike was flexible with the design and made a suggestion to the border around the patio that really looks great.

  • We called and left a message with all of the details/requests above. After a week, we still have not heard back from them. We are not sure if it is too small of a job or if they are too busy to even return our call, but we never heard back from them.

  • We called and talked to Smitty with all of the details/requests above. He gave us a quote of $1100 over the phone (the lowest quote we received). He was scheduled to come look at the site on Friday. He had to reschedule to Saturday due to rain. He did not show up for the Saturday appointment.

  • We called and talked to Mike with all of the details/requests above. He showed up on time for our scheduled appointment to review the site. We were quoted a price of $1740 (about average from the quotes we received) ($1440 without the steps if you have seen our other reviews on Angie's List). They came back three days later to start/finish the project.
