    Sears Home Improvement Products
I searched online to find prices for a dishwasher that I had found locally.  Sears provided a better price online.  Before I bought the dishwasher online, I called the local store in Jamestown, ND to see if they had the appliance at the store.  They didn't, but the person I talked to said that it could be shipped there for no shipping charge.  I ordered the dishwasher online, and the local sales person just called (about a week later) to tell me that the machine had arrived and I could pick it up.

    FLECK'S FURNITURE & APPLIANCE
I have had appliance men come in before and scratch up my cupboard, but this guy was professional and cleaned up after himself. I had another small problem with the dishwasher and he came back to fix it right away. Their service was very efficient.

    ZIMMERMAN'S FURNITURE
It did not go well. The furniture was delivered by high school kids who walked on our couch with their dirty shoes and had the cushions and pillows from the couch on the floor of the dirty truck-no wrapping over the couch at all. The pillows on the couch had pulls in the fabric. The mattress had a wrapper over it, but the wrapper had holes in it. When it was unwrapped, there was dirt on the mattress. The leather ottoman had claw marks all over the leather and the legs were scratched. The delivery truck left a huge oil slick in our driveway. The store replaced the mattress within 2 weeks, and they replaced the pillows within a few months. They wanted us to pay for all of the furniture, but we refused to pay for the ottoman until they replaced it. We had to disputed the charges with the credit card company in order to get them to respond. After 5 months, they replaced the ottoman with a new one, but the legs were damaged again. After 6 months, they delivered new legs, but they were the wrong color. After 7 months, they finally delivered new undamaged legs. They also were not forthright with the credit card company, omitting important information about the claim, making them seem like they were totally in the right, when they really were not.

    LOWE'S
I purchased carpet in Oct. from Lowes.  They did not get around installing it until December, after I filed a formal complaint with corporate.  This means that I did not have functional bedrooms in my house for approximately three months.  The day of the install, they called to inform me that the carpet had a flaw.  I told them I had company coming for Christmas and needed carpet.  We came to an agreement that the carpet would be installed temporarily and we would revisit our options after the holidays.  I visited with Lowes this week and they had little recollection of this issue.  They offered me a 50% discount on the room with the flawed carpet and stated I would be required to void the warranty--leaving me with carpet that has no value.  The other option would be for them to come and inspect the carpet, move all the furniture, remeasure the room, reorder the carpet, and reinstall it--a significant amount of my time and energy, time I can't take away form work. Given Lowes' track record, I'm also concerned that this process could take a significant months to complete, leaving my home in a mess in the meantime.  I'm still working with the store to try to remedy this, but I would strongly advise choosing a different option if you are considering new flooring.  The process has been nothing but frustrating and time consuming!
