    Liberty Fence & Deck Co
The crew working on my project obviously didn't get the message that the existing gate, which WAS in great shape, was going to be reinstalled and used with the new extended fence. They threw it in their trash pile & damaged it a little, but still used it. The new posted were installed way lower than the existing posts, so now the gate stands 6" or more higher than the post that it's attached to and it looks awful! I called the owner many, many times to have them come back and correct this. He kept saying they would make it right because he wanted happy customers, but it never happened. I meet with the owner 2-3 times at my house, to point out this obvious mistake his crew made and he said they would come back & fix it, but Never did!!! That was 2 years ago, and my gate not only looks awful next to the fence, but it's breaking every time I have to open & close it. This is because they also made the opening for the gate it small. The job they did with the original fence was great, and we had also hired Liberty Fence to put up a wood fence around a very large yard at our previous home and they did a great job, but after they just walked away from correcting their screw-ups on this job, I would never hire them again. In fact, right now I have to find & buy new gate since the current one doesn't open or close anymore!

Bret's was able to accommodate our rather stringent scheduling requirements. The facility is over one hundred years old and had last been painted over 20 years ago. Stripping the layers of paint off and tuck pointing was prohibitively expensive, so the surface was basically power-washed and repainted, and the results are as expected.

    T.L. Horton Contracting
We wanted to update the exterior of our 1950s rambler. Some of the work we wanted done was new siding, stonework, several new windows/doors, and to add a sliding glass door in the kitchen to give access to the backyard. We also wanted to make sure we kept some of the craftsmanship of our home, such as the cedar shake look, but with an updated look. Everything we ask for was delivered and then some! While working, everything was kept clean. We have three children and all workers were always cognizant of that with language and decorum. The time frame was also really fast. It was about two weeks total for everything to get done. Also, if ever I had questions, my texts were always answered promptly. One thing that I really liked was that the extra things that came up were never a burden to take care of. Sometimes with other companies we have dealt with, the company will grumble about having the extra work. Not Horton Contracting. He understands that things come up with older homes and, in fact, anticipates it. Some of the "extras" that our house needed was proper venting of a bathroom fan, electrical work for outside outlets, moving a radiator for our sliding glass door, and assisting us in getting attic A/C installed in our home. We have received so many compliments on our home that people have actually knocked on our door inquiring about the work. I would definitely recommend and hire T. L. Horton Contracting again.

I CANT RECOMMEND RICK HALVORSON CONSTRUCTION ENOUGH!!!! IN A TIME WHEN IT IS INCREDIBLY HARD TO FIND AND TRUST A CONTRACTOR TO DO A JOB RIGHT, ON BUDGET, AND TO BE THERE WHEN YOU NEED THEM, RICK HALVORSON CONSTRUCTION IS THE ONLY ONE TO CALL!! Recently, my family and I decided to renovate our basement instead of moving to a new home. This is something weve never been a part of and were frankly pretty nervous about. After being in our home for 11 years, wed built enough equity to get a loan, and remodel, but we had a very specific limit on how much we could spend. So when it came time to find a contractor we wanted to make sure we picked someone who was trustworthy first and foremost, reputable, and knowledgeable. We had worked with Rick before on some improvements to windows, doors, siding, etc, through the City of Fargo Renaissance program, and so naturally he was on our short list of contractors to obtain bids from. Ricks bid was the best of the 3 that we received, and given our history with him and his business, we felt best going with him. I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH HOW GOOD THIS DECISION WAS! The work done by Ricks crew, most notably Ryan Schuette, was so much better than we could have hoped it would be. Anytime a decision needed to be made on how to best do a particular job, it was always done the right way and not the cheapest way. There was never a concern about keeping it cheap, only doing what was best for the house, and for the client. And I cant thank them enough. Add to them their subcontractors, JDP Electric, and Magnell Plumbing. Scott from JDP was awesome, and listened to all my request for power outlet positioning, light switches, smurf tube, data lines, phone lines, everything down to the color temperature in the ceiling lights, and he made sure it was done just right. Mike Magnell from Magnell plumbing went so far above and beyond that I dont even know what to say. Example: he recognized the fact that at some point in the future we might get a fridge with water, and ice maker etc and noticed that once the bathroom ceiling was in wed never get a water line in, so he just ran a water line, even though it wasnt part of the bid, and thats just one of the many extra values he provided. Rick and his team of workers, and subs are thoughtful, courteous, thorough, accurate, and precise with the work they do. Their is no notch higher than them, they are THE TOP NOTCH when it comes to this work! DO NOT hesitate to call them!

Jack is the best.. he does great work. He is the only contractor that I trust to be in my home when we are not there. He's on time , trustworthy, not to mention his work is exceptional. My husband and I will not hire anyone else for any remodel in our home. The only minor problem I have is I have to wait because the man is in high demand. That's a good problem for him, but not for me. I will wait for him though..

We were told we would have our gutters installed within 10-12 weeks. It took over 6 months for someone to show up. In the mean time, we were not given any updates or explanation of why it was taking so long.
During our estimate, we had requested covers for the gutters to keep out the leaves, and were told we wouldn't need them because the gutters were so wide they wouldn't get clogged. This is definitely not the case. All of our gutters are full of leaves and our roof is extremely difficult to reach, causing us to hire people to clean our gutters.
We also requested seamless soffit and fascia during our estimate, and did not receive any estimates or reasoning for not providing that service.
Overall, our gutters look nice, but the service we received was subpar given the cost.

It went very well. They did exactly what they said they were going to do for a very fair price.  If I had to complain about anything it was that they didn't clean up very well after they left... I had pieces of wood left in my lawn after the job was complete.  If it were my business, I would want my crews to leave the work area in as good or better condition than when they arrived.  Overall, a good job and I would use them again.

He power washed the house for a clean surface and did an excellent job on repairs, scraping and priming of areas in need. He was very meticulous in his painting and clean up. My house is quite old but it looks like new again.

I would have no  problem recommending him to anyone and would hire him again in the future.

    Western Products

I gave Western Products a grade of C, mostly due to my overall frustration with this process and my perception of communications.. I felt is was not fair to give the anger-based D grade that I hovered over.. So, on to my review?
I looked for several businesses in town that could do the work for me. While cost was a factor, so was speed. My roof had begun to leak and I needed it repaired. Long story...less long....while the quote for Western Products was about $4000 higher than the closest other bids, I decided to go with them based upon the fact I was assured they could start the work in about 2 week rather than a 4-6 weeks from the others. Also, I felt going with a more established company that offered same as cash financing was a plus.
Work did start on the roof on time. In fact, due to the fact another project they were working on was cancelled, they were able to send 2 crews to my home and complete the removal and install of the new roof on the same day. They also removed the chimney to below my roofline and installed a new vent that was routed through the chimney. Regarding the speed in which this was done, I have no issues and would give that a grade of A, however, I do think it was typical that it was done that quickly and was more attributed to the other project being put on hold. If that was all I had done, I would have given A's and B's. The B's would be really for the pricing and quality.
Quality wise, the new vent that was installed was noticeably tilted and the drip edge that was put around the roof was kinda beat up. In fact, i had to request that a few be corrected and got a bit of an eye roll from the crew lead when I asked about this. I am still waiting on the new chimney vent to be corrected.
Also, when the old gutters were removed and the new roof was put on, a gap in the soffit was made wider. I had mentioned that birds were getting into this area of the roof section and expected this to be corrected. It was not and birds started making their nest once again. When I called and pointed this out, a person was sent over to fix it by screwing a strip of metal over part of the opening. However, the entire hole was not covered. I am still awaiting that to be repaired.
The clean up around the house was pretty good. I did go around after the crew left and found 6 nails in the driveway and about the same around on the sidewalk and patio. I kinda expected that, but would have been much more pleased to find none.
The gutters took a couple of weeks to get installed. I was told this would happen since I was getting seamless gutters that kept leaves out. Since it is easier to set up the forming machine and do several jobs at the same time, I understood I would need to wait. When the gutters were installed, they looked great. My initial frustration I had with that was due to the heavy rains we had while I was waiting (it happens) and that I again found several nails in the driveway as well as some metal waste from the cutting tool.

The more bothersome issue was with regards to the invoice. After I got the first invoice, I mentioned it to the supervisor and he said not to worry about, he will let them know it was part of the package.  After getting two more, I called the company and told them it was part of the package deal.  I got the forth invoice with red ink on it telling me to send in the money.  This is after I had already paid for the entire project.  Obviously their communications are an issue when dealing with the different divisions.
To date, I am still waiting on this to be completed. Once again...Long Story...Less Long, I have been waiting for over 2 1/2 months to get these installed. This has been the most frustrating part of the process...especially since I have already paid in full for the work to be done. I did this in good faith since I was told that would be done right after the roofing was done. I have been told several times they thought this was done. I have made a lot of calls and texts. About half have gone unreturned until I get a bit forceful on the subject. While I can appreciate the short season we have and that sometimes projects get delayed, what I cannot understand is the failures in simply letting me know what is going on. In fact, I had stayed home 1 day to meet with staff to get this done, only to have no one show up.
This project started over 3 months ago and is still not completed. I was called today and told this will be done next week. I am hoping this is true.
In general, I think the work is good, but a bit overpriced.   In my opinion, communication is a major issue, not only with the customer, but within the company.  While things happen with construction projects, the importance of keeping the customer informed cannot be undervalued.  Recently, I uncharacteristically left a profanity laden tirade on the supervisor?s phone for his lack of communications.  While I did later apologized for the profanity, I did note my level of frustration and my desire go get this job completed were real and needed to be addressed.  I am hoping the promise to get this finished next week comes true.

My final advice, I foolishly signed off on the Western Products getting fully payment from the finance company prior to the work being done.  While admittedly, the remaining issues are minor issues in relation to the overall project, it still needed to be done.  Waiting for over 2 months for this is not right, especially since the internal communications were not good at the company.  I wonder if I did not stay on this, if it would ever be done.   I felt my bargaining chips were gone.  Being a ?Good Guy? came back to bite me.  Don?t make the same mistake.

He agreed to do the job with a signed and hand written proposal totaling $1045 and had been given my down payment of $225.   Days later after cashing my check for the down payment and before beginning the job,  he left me voicemail sob story of how he under estimated labor hours for prep work and wanted an additional $600.  He also left $125 worth of paint sitting in my drive way which he bought with his debit card (so I'm unable to return it).  I refused to pay the additional $600 so I fired him and instructed him pay me back my $225 and to remove his $125 of paint from property.  Haven't received a response.  I strongly suggest to never hire the con artist and bullshitter!
