    L & L GAS SERVICES
Stan scheduled an appointment to install our logs with in a week after we received the logs. He communicated his arrival time and was on time. He installed our logs, explained how they work, and the maintenance needed. He does work in the Raleigh area and in the Wilmington area.

    All-In-One Chimney Sweep Company
After our chimney cap was blown off, Hurricane Florence dumped a lot of rain down the chimney, caught w/containers & buckets for 3 days. The smell of mold has been in the chimney from a week after the storm ended. This company told me mold could not grow in a chimney, so no cleaning was needed, but he could help us with a new chimney cap. Our request was for a chimney cleaning. Our roofer is handling the new chimney cap, so we mutually agreed he could not help us. The house built in 1996 had a wood burning FP prior to our house purchase & it was later changed to a natural gas burning FP. I am disappointed that he did not feel he could help us, but we will search for someone who can remediate the mold we smell in our FP flue. With the creosote in the flu for years, & now a lot of new moisture over days due to this storm, this new odor from the FP, due to this leaking, must be taken seriously to allow our den to be pleasant to relax in once again.

    RON'S FIRESIDE SHOP
Ron's installed a new see-through fireplace for us in summer of 2017. We were impressed with the friendly professionalism and the quality of work. Mary, in the shop, was very helpful with design ideas, and did a beautiful job hand-staining the mantel. The tile work is exactly the clean, contemporary look we were going for, and it's great to have the fireplace open to the kitchen as well. Ron came today to do the seasonal check up, and was very thorough in cleaning and examining the unit. He even took time to correct a small glitch in the remote that we had not even noticed. I recommend them as reasonably priced and committed to quality.

    Southbay Roofing LLC
I had done a lot of research before I contacted Southbay roofing. Many people have used them on Figure Eight Island and have been very satisfied. I met with Alan and choose a shingle for high wind and a underlayment that would work best in a hurricane area. Alan explain the various roofings shingles from the low end to the more expensive roofing. You can decide what your needs are and your budget. They clean up my property afterwards and I was pleased working with Alan and his daughter Rachel is very professional. Because of a complicated roof and high wind area I choose the most expensive product for my large beach house .

    The Fireplace Guy
Excellent. The Fireplace Guy arrived on time with a second repair person. He was courteous, friendly, and professional. He is 3rd generation owner and certified by the NFI, so he inspired confidence from the start. He proceeded with diagnostic work and some minor repair, including cleaning and repairing a short in the switch wire, explain gas he went along, which I found very helpful. So nice to have a working fireplace in such (relatively) cold weather.

    The Fireplace Guy
The process from start to finish could not have gone any better. Jeff and Jeremy were both exceedingly professional, knowledgeable and nice. We had concerns that installation would not go according to plan because that goes with the territory of living in an older home; however, there were no hiccups and we now thoroughly enjoy our new gas logs. Incidentally, after seeing The Fireplace Guy's stellar rating on Angie's List during our initial search, we didn't bother looking any further. Two thumbs up!

    RON'S FIRESIDE SHOP
We had a propane fireplace in the house we moved into. We noticed over time the things were developing soot in the house that you dont clean regularly. So, we called Rons place up. But first we researched the manufacturer, as a new home owner we looked through all the manuals and looked up manufacturer, theyre out of business. No one had bought them out. So, theres nothing I can do myself. So, we call Ron. He says these are all proprietary parts, companys out of business, youre going to need a new fireplace. So, we price out a new fireplace, which is several thousand dollars, its a double sided, open on both sides (one side in the living room, one in my library). So, Its a big fireplace, huge heat source in the winter time. Since my home is all electric. It can get cold here, in the teens. Ice storms are more of a problem here. So, I call Ron, hes got a good reputation. Hes the only game in time. I had him proceed with replacing the fireplace. Its freestanding in the middle of the room. The builder when he built it, built that freestanding area bigger then it needed to be. The library is south facing, so in the winter time it gets a lot of sunshine, but that doesnt get through to the family room. Ron connected me with a contractor who reduced the closure in the fireplace by 3 feet, and Ron installed the fireplace and chimney. Its just the nicest improvement weve ever made to the home. Its beautiful to look at. I had the contractor false stone the whole thing. So, it looks like I have a great big stone monument in my home. Its beautiful.

    RON'S FIRESIDE SHOP
They test the system, they light it. They clean all the fake wood inside. They reset the stones in the baseplate. They re-add the stuff that looks like burning embers in the bottom. They replace the batteries. They clean the blower. It has a blower that blows the hot air out. So, they test all that, clean everything. They take the glass panes out and clean it. They get it brand new looking.

    Jeff Sikes Chimney Services
Terrible experience. Scheduled chimney cap replacement with Jeff and paid 50% up front. Didn't hear anything for 3-4 weeks though I was promised the job would be taken care of shortly after they received my down payment. Called and left numerous messages asking when the cap would be replaced. The calls weren't returned despite their message that says they will return your call within the same business day. After 6 weeks of calling and waiting, left more messages now asking for a return of my deposit since the work didn't get done and I had water coming into my house every time it rained. I finally received a call back from Crystal who promised to mail me my deposit back "that afternoon" since they had not upheld their part of the deal. Two more weeks have passed and I have still not received a refund and they are again ignoring my calls. They claim to be "honest" on their website but the exact opposite has been true. There's nothing honest about taking someone's money and not doing the work or giving a refund that was promised.

    Carolina Fireplace
About as bad as one could imagine. I originally called the first or second week of January. They scheduled an appointment for about January 24th. The technician came in and rubbed emory cloth on the thermopile and made a few adjustments and it lit. He was here for about 5 minutes and charged me $125 (which supposedly came with a 30 day guarantee) which I thought was ridiculous but they did tell me that up front so I wrote the check. That evening I tried to turn on the fireplace and it once again didn't light. I called the next day and they said they wouldn't be able to come out for another week which I found irritating since that's like ordering a burger only to find they didn't make it the wrong way then they tell you to go to the back of the line to get it fixed. Either way, I waited another week. He came back out made a few more "adjustments" and the fireplace lit. Once again, that evening I tried to turn on the fireplace and it wouldn't light. I called again the next day and they scheduled me another week out. I told the girl I thought it was ridiculous and she told me it's because of how busy they are. The day of the next appointment comes and no one arrives. I called, they said they tried to call me because their ONE technician was in a bad car accident so they had to cancel all the service calls for the week. I didn't recieve any phone call or voicemail. Fortunately, he's OK but they scheduled for another week out. That day comes and once again no one comes over. I called and was told the owner was trying to pick up the service calls and he's a little behind. He told me he called and left a message. I asked what number and they had 2 of the last 4 digits in my phone number reversed. I gave him the RIGHT number and he said he'd call me back to see where the owner was. Naturally, no call back. I called the next day and was told they'd call me back when they find out when he can be here. Finally, on Feb. 15 Tim (the owner) came over and "adjusted" a few things and got the fireplace to light. He apologized for all the hassle and gave me back $80. He also said that if the thermopile needed to be replaced, he'd do that and not charge me for the part. I really don't know why they didn't already do that since it's pretty clear to me that is what the issue is. Once again, he left and that evening the fireplace wouldn't light. I called both his cell phone and their main office number twice and they're not getting back to me. Basically they got $45 out of me and I have nothing in return.
