    Padgett's Custom Renovations
Jimmy was helpful at the beginning, but as the project went on he failed to keep up regular communication. We had to constantly reach out to him for status and to coordinate next steps. Towards the end, damage to carpet was found in an adjacent room. The 220 line for the new stove was coming up out of the carpet and then into the wall for the new range. Jimmy's electrical contractor was quick to properly rerun the power, but the repair to the carpet was never properly completed as Jimmy stopped returning calls and responding to text even though it clearly showed he has read them.

    D & D Drywall & Painting
Denis and his team did an incredible job. Denis came out to quote same day and started the job the very next day. The work was done on schedule. They were here punctually at 7:58 every morning and ended on time. They were here to check on the quality of work multiple times a day. The job included installation of drywall, repair of ceiling drywall in multiple rooms and repair of our bathroom drywall. They painted all surfaces installed / repaired and painted the walls and ceiling of our upstairs bathroom after repairing the walls. It was a 2 1/2 day job. I cannot day enough about the quality for the drywall, finishing and painting. The blending of the new and existing drywall as well as the clean lines between the walls and the ceiling are amazing. Their professionalism and customer service was exemplary.

It was a pleasure working with Chris. I was happy with the estimate and thought the pricing was very fair. I ordered the tile and since I was working with him I was given a discount at the tile store which was a nice surprise. When the tile came in I was told it was over 200 lbs in a few boxes. I was talking with Chris and was concerned about transporting that weight without help(getting over a severe shoulder injury) and he actually offered to pick up the tile and deliver it to my home. We set up an appointment. He arrived very promptly and showed me exactly how the tile would be laid and asked if I had any questions or concerns. The tile looks great and he said he would seal it yearly at no additional charge. He is extremely concerned with his tile reputation and it is pleasing to see someone take such pride in his craftsmanship. I highly recommend Chris and trust you will have a similar experience

    ACA Construction
Rasaan and his crew at A.C.A. Construction did wonderful work at our house! He's very personable, explains what he's doing, and has a great "can do" attitude. I would highly recommend him and his company and would certainly hire him again.

    Re-Bath of Charlotte
Excellent! Remodel met or even exceeded our expectations. Professional approach from all people from Rebath of Charlotte that worked on our project. Rebath worked with our schedule on a start date and completed the project on time. Job site was neat and clean.

    Hawk Construction Inc
Mostly, my complaint is with the contractor's rude attitude. Mistakes were made, such as hole in the ceiling because of his guy stepped on a pipe upstair, new floor scratched because of transporting a tub, carpet accidentally ripped so I had to replace the flooring for a whole bedroom eventhough I had no intention (extra expenses for me for the floor), guest toilet tank cracked, etc. Sure, the contractor made the necessary repairs, but he did not say sorry at all. I brushed it off. Another attitude problem: If you say something that he disagrees, expect a full page of lecture, sometimes with all caption, like: YOU... and NOT! First impression with him was I was asking would it be possible for him to come take a look and give a quote on a weekend since that was the only time I could without having to take some time off from work? His reply was one full page long, i kid you not, lecturing me how he is a deacon at a church, a husband, a father, and has to help with his daughter's homework etc etc. A simple "no" would suffice. I brushed this off, too, thinking that maybe this contractor was a senior, but apparently he wasn't. Also, if he texted you something and you forgot what it was, and you're texting with him, so you figure why don't I ask him now, his reply will be: "Look at my text several days ago" instead of just answer it in one word, like at 5 pm or whatnot. If you're too involved, like telling: after this, can you do this? His answer will be like: Yes, we know! We do this for a living! So, I took that in mind. And, one time the corner wall was obviously patched up very wavy, and I didn't tell him mid day because I thought they'd get to it later before they wrapped up for the day. Then, the day ended and his guys went home. I checked and it was not done. I texted him and he said: why didn't you tell them?? Well, I thought you said your guys are a pro and a pro would definitely notice that! My last straw with him was after a couple of months, the kitchen ceiling downstair was leaking. His guy came and found out that the leak was from an old corroded pipe that they didn't handle. True, but the leaking corroded pipe is right next to (hand in hand with) the new pipe that they replaced for the full gut bathroom renovation. The bathroom was full gutted: floor, wall, and ceiling. He didn't care to mention about the corroded pipe to me? His answers are: - the plumber didn't see it (Well, to change the new pipe, you would have to handle the corroded pipe), - it's not corroded, it's just a discoloration - nobody would care to mention it because you don't fix what's not broken. You wait until it breaks THEN you fix it. So, when the upstair bathroom floor was fully opened, I should not replace the corroded pipe. Wait until it leaks, then just put a hole on the kitchen ceiling downstair?? This made no sense to me. I found a new plumber (a nice guy, heaven sent) said all it needed was a little cleaning on the pipe (I believe it was called 'Flux'), and the leak would not happen. And he also said that he should just clean the pipe, and he definitely saw that corroded pipe. The bathroom renovation journey was very frustrating with Hawk. Had i found 2 bad reviews from other people who called him rude and obnoxious, I would think twice before I hired him. Most of his guys or subcontractors that he used, like the one who accidentaly ripped out my carpet are in fact really nice. I like them eventhough they made mistakes. It's just that the contractor is the one you deal with... on a daily basis.. for 2 months......@@

    Norseman Renovations
Excellent! Never sat at the kitchen bar or table because I didn't like the old kitchen. NOW I can't get enough of it! Jeremy did o we and above what we asked for. He also made a very special insert cabinet so I can. Ow display all of my pottery collection. So happy to come home from work now and cook a meal! LOVE too that the 90s shell sinks are gone from the bathrooms. Again, he out did himself and built a gorgeous tower cabinet for our master bathroom. No doubt we would hire him again and again!

    Mere Designs
The designer who came up with our layout (that we love) was either fired, let go or quit--never quite got the full story. Then we worked with the owner Lisa. Lisa took 6 weeks to pick up our project after the first designer left, then changed ALL the finishes, adding extra time to our project. I told her I wanted quartz countertops because they are low maintenance; she talked me into granite to save money and on installation day I learned it was actually marble--the highest maintenance stone in existence. Starting in July she would call and say the electrician was coming "this week" or "today" and we didn't get an electrician until AUGUST; nine missed appointments , and 4 different electricians in all. She would try to find other cost saving measures since we were so over budget but they ended up saving like $200 but take an extra 2 - 3 weeks for completion. There was no flow or project management. Subs regularly complained that things happened out of order and made it harder for them to do what they needed to do. Every day was an adventure--never knowing who was going to come or what work was going to be done. We started in February and finished the last week of August; originally we were told 2 months. But the real problem with this project was when subs and STRANGERS showed up on my door step saying they hadn't been paid (even though I had paid in full) and strangers who (still) want me to join a formal NC Secretary of State investigation and lawsuit against Lisa for bad practices. In the end, we love our layout but we decided to finish the work on our own, overlook things that should have been replaced (like gouged cabinet doors), just to get out of this project.

    Land Of Pressure
This guy was great. He did everything I asked. Everything looks so perfect and so good. New toilet, new vanity, and new tile. It was very well priced too. I'm very happy. He was very courteous, friendly, professional, and reasonable.

    Mere Designs
This review is submitted to prevent any other homeowner from the same unfortunate experience my family has had with Lisa Spencer of Mere Designs. (hereinafter referred to as Lisa). We entered a kitchen remodel project with Lisa on 5/1/2017. At the time of signing the contract the sub-total price was $46,196, sales tax $3,464 (@7.5%), and total price of $49,661. Our deposit paid to Lisa was $34,028 in the form of two personal checks that have cleared. This writing will address several areas that potential victims of Lisa need to be aware of to protect themselves. This also applies to or any other Designer unlawfully acting as General Contractor pursuant to Article 1 of Chapter 87 of the NC General Statues. 1. Sales Tax: SD-16-3, effective January 1, 2017. Under the directive my remodel project is a real property contract with respect to a capital improvement to real property and exempt from sales tax. (Reference: North Carolina Directive SD-16-3, Real Property Contracts, [*** Link removed ***] The DOR published a notice to help in determining if projects are subject to tax. [*** Link removed ***] 2. General Contractor: Lisa will inform clients and use a contract where she describes herself and her trade as a Designer, but under NC law she is engaged in business as an unlicensed General Contractor. Lisa could be charged with a criminal offense under this article (Reference: Article 1 of NC general Statute 87. [*** Link removed ***] 3. Permits. Lisa unlawfully managed subcontractors on my project without pulling permits. The subcontractors all indicate the same; Lisa told them permitting was not required, furthermore, Lisa refused to obtain a Building Permit, until I stopped all work. When Lisa obtained the Building Permit she untruthfully informed the permit office that the value of my project was $6,000, when in-fact it is three times greater than the value for requiring a Building Permit. In addition, Lisa signed her own name to the permit application listing another Company as the General Contractor. Ive since spoken to this General Contractor and he knew nothing about it (This is illegal). (Reference: NC General Statute 153A-357. Permits. [*** Link removed ***] 4. Unethical, Dishonest, Fraudulent, Deceitful, Incompetent, and Cheating Acts committed by Lisa Spencer of Mere Designs. To date, by my investigation, Lisa has not paid six (6) subcontractors that she was managing on my project. The Cabinet Maker has issued me a letter threating a lien against my home for unpaid monies in the amount of $7,050. Lisa provided me with a personal letter and an accounting worksheet of all financials. In her letter, she claims all contractors have been paid. In the worksheet, she claims that the costs of my cabinets are $17,200 compared to the Cabinet Makers price of $7,050. This is a 143% markup. To me, this is unethical. In closing, since terminating all relations with Lisa I have retained an attorney and filed an investigation with the State Licensing Board. I have reached out to all the subcontractors that I can find (six so far) to inform them that I am working to finish my project and to make sure they are all compensated for their work. All have commented that they have not been paid by Lisa. The Building Permit now lists me as the General Contractor and Ive written new contracts with the subcontractors that still have work on my project and pay them beyond the $34,028 that I already paid to Lisa. I am grateful to the subcontractors who remained in Lisas deceitful wake that have agreed to work with me and finish my project. If youre reading this and you find that you have also been defrauded or cheated by a general contractor, whether licensed or not, read this: [*** Link removed ***]
