  • We are so pleased with Billy and his whole crew. This farmhouse is our summer home so we were back and forth but never worried about not being there. Billy was so easy to work with and answered every call and text question we had. Such a professional. I would ( and have plans to) hire Billy and Vaughan Building for more projects in the future. The quality of work done is incredible. From new construction to using the old reclaimed wood, Vaughan Building was absolutely wonderful! A++++ all the way

  • Fantastic! Great energy when on the job. Very responsive. Price conscious. Worked evenings and early mornings if needed to stay on schedule. Looking forward to having Dion complete more projects for us!

  • He originally planned to come the previous day and scheduled a time. But when his previous appointment ran over he was kind enough to contact me and offered to reschedule which I did. He made the rescheduled appointment and promptly took a look. Afterwards he explained to me what he had found and the challenges/merits of each of the possible solutions . There was a short term solution, a longer term solution and the ultimate best solution that would last for about 10 - 15 years. Of course the longer the term the more the solution would cost to implement. Due to financial constraints at the time, I chose the short term solution and expressed the desire to implement the best solution which is a complete bathroom remodel. He did state that he wasn't doing too many remodels anymore but would be willing to work with someone and handle the plumbing to ensure that the work is done properly and according to code. He offered the name of a handyman and stated he is more than willing to work with any one I! choose. I would definitely call on him again.

  • The kitchen is still the best room in the house. He did a good job. Everything he did was perfect and there was no issue later on. If he found something that was not part of the renovation, he would let us know about it. The reason the price went up was because there was some other extenuating from the ceiling down that he had to replace. He was the best I have ever worked with.

  • The project took longer than anticipated, therefore causing the cost to go up as he charged by the hour.  He moved a little slower than expected and left the project incomplete, leaving material for me to sand the walls to prep for painting; which was a disappointment.  We had hoped to get some other work completed during his time in our home, but slow movement on the remodel didn't allow for more work to be completed.   Also, one of the laundry closet doors broke about a week after it was installed.   He was helpful in picking up our materials from the store for us on his trailer.

  • Don did great finishing our challenging ~1300 sq. ft. attic space. Out of three contractors that we met with, Don's quote was the lowest.  He didn't have the same "salesman" vibe as the others but he was friendly and took care in understanding our requests.
We started out with blueprints from previous homeowners, but once the project got underway we discovered that the plans didn?t exactly match the current space.  For example, the plumbing was already roughed-in when we bought the house and didn?t match any of our blueprints for the bathroom area.   Don and the plumber talked through options with us once we realized the discrepency, but quotes had already been given and contracts were signed, so this change ended up costing us. Lesson learned- plan and communicate as much as you can before starting the project.  It will save you money and time!  If only we had a computer program to mockup a final finished space, like you see on TV.

Don managed all subcontractors making sure that they were prompt and efficient.  We felt like all of his subcontractors took care of our home and made sure the quality of work was high.  We were at home during some of the construction, so that we could talk about questions that popped up along the way (like where do you want lights and light switches, placement of the bathroom walls and utilities, etc.)
I appreciated Don bringing all of the subcontractors in for initial estimates at the same time. It saved everyone time by being able to look at the space together and talk about a plan.  His subcontractors love to work with him, and told me so.  He has great relationships with them and truly cares about people.
Don is a carpenter and he does excellent carpentry work.  We had some tricky angles, since it was an attic space, but he was able to clean them up and finish them off nicely.
Don cleaned up the high traffic areas and the workspace when they were finished, and we are so appreciative of him going above and beyond when we needed some extra help.  For example, we hired a separate company to install carpet and hardwood that wasn?t included in our contract price with Don. Carpet was installed at the end of the project, once the other
subcontractors where finished. The carpeting wasn?t meeting up to the height of the bathroom tile threshold.  I asked the carpeting folks to add some extra padding or build up the flooring to meet the tile threshold since this was the final job of the project, but they said that it wasn?t their responsibility to do that.  Don was able to pull up the carpeting, add ¼? of wood below the threshold, and re-install the padding and carpet in that area.
Don, we appreciate your hard work. Thanks for building a beautiful space for our family!

  • We originally spoke with him about two different projects and then we merged the two together as one. After he started the work, he then informed us that as the home owners, we would have to file for the permits because the project was over $30,000.00, and he can only get a license for work up to that amount. So I then had to take extra days of my week out of my schedule to get this issue resolved.

Instead of hiring a contracted painter, he wanted to paint himself. He painted the first coat, but I insisted when the second coat was put on for a contracted painter to paint. He argued that he has been painting for years and he knows how to paint, I still insisted on a contracted painter. Then the granite countertops were installed, the sides of the granite were not the same shine as the tops of them.

Then the tile was laid, and there are over 12 tiles that are scratched after they were installed. Also, the sealant was laid over the tile without cleaning the tile first, so now it looks like there are stains underneath.

I have tried to contact him about these matters, and all he would do is say that according to contract, after the tile is ?complete? I owe another payment. I agreed, but the tile is not ?completed.? I have requested to have a face to face meeting, he agreed, when I gave him two different times, he said he was too busy and never countered with a different or time.

There is not one thing in this entire project that is 100% "completed" thus far.

  • I have nothing but wonderful things to say. This company met with me no less than 20 times to design cabinets for me. They produced AWESOME drawings so that I could get a visual for what my cabinets would look like before I signed anything. I ordered my cabinets made changes even after the order was placed. When I had them installed I still made changes and it wasn't a problem, They really took pride in their work; and it showed. I have so many cool safety features that came along with the cabinets! The cabinets are well worth the money I spent. I would HIGHLY recommend this company.... I will definitely use them again.

  • The service was HORRIBLE & it took much longer than anticipated This contractor was hired to remodel 3 rooms (2 full baths and kitchen). The contractor refused to complete tasks in the house in a timely manner. He and his crew have not cleaned the areas and dust they created causing my 4 year old to have a series of asthma and other inflammatory lung issues . The contractor was made aware of this and did not even apologize. In addition, the contractor has gone on 2 vacations while working on my project. He has started several other projects while my home is still incomplete. When I emailed my dissatisfaction and pinpointed my issues, rather than showing the ability to "please the customer" he replied to my email in a very discourteous, offensive manner which left a bad taste in my mouth. These 3 rooms have taken 3 months to date and the job is still incomplete. The contractor refuses to meet reasonable demands such as havng matching trim on the cabinents. I would NOT recommend if you have an option!
