  • As indicated above, the chair was not delivered when requested. I contacted the company one day later and they told me it was back ordered.  I asked why they had not advised me of this by email, and the agent did not know.  The agent assured me, however, that it would be delivered within 2 or 3 weeks.
    When the chair had not been delivered within 3 weeks, I contacted the company again on Thursday, August 28.  The automated system advised that the order was in process.  I then asked to talk to a live agent.  The agent first advised me that the chair that was ordered was no longer in inventory.  I told her that the automated system had just advised me that it was in process, and that previously I was told it was on back order.  She placed me on hold to get additional information.  When she came back, she advised me that the order was deleted for inventory reasons or something like that then she said that it can be re-ordered and she had something like 78 in stock.  I was totally confused at this point and told her that this sounds like a lot of BS (letters used not the words) to me, and just when I was about to ask to speak for a manager, I heard a high pitch noise on the phone and got cut off. 
    I called again.  This time I specifically asked for a supervisor from the get go.  I explained the entire history to the supervisor.  She did not know why I had never been provided with any updated status, and apologized for that.  She asked if my credit card had ever been charged, but it had not.  I thought that they may not do so until dispatch of the order and did not think any more about it.  She re-ordered the item, and gave me an extra 10- percent for the inconvenience.  I then specifically asked when would it be delivered.  She stated that our account offers next business day deliveries.  Since I talked to her on Thursday morning, I specifically asked if it would be delivered on Friday.  She assured me that it would be.  The chair was not delivered as promised on Friday.  I called Office Depot on Saturday.  Get this: the automated system advised me that the order had been delivered!!!  I laughed and asked for a supervisor.  The supervisor on duty told me that UPS had picked up the order and should deliver it on Tuesday, September 2. I explained that it should have been delivered on Friday, August 29.   The supervisor explained that because this was a long holiday weekend, the best he could do is the following Tuesday.  It appears that Office Depot mishandled the order again and it did not get to UPS until the early AM on Friday.  UPS is not required to deliver until sometime the next business day, i.e., the following Tuesday.
    I do not intend to purchase from Office Depot again except for in-store purchases of inexpensive office items when purchasing from somewhere else would be inconvenient.  Whatever you do, do not buy from Home Depot on line or through the 800 number if you need something delivered by a specific date.  As you can see, good communications and professional and efficient handling are not company strengths.
