I have had 4 different people come and we go over everything with them and then we never hear back from them. We started this process back the first part of August. We want to begin renovation in the next 2-3 weeks. I doubt this will be possible since the lack of work ethic that the ones around here have. No we have no plans or drawings. We are just needing an estimate of what the cost might be. I would be happy to send you pics of what the house looks like and what we are wanting. I don't mean to sound ugly but I will not pay for an estimate. If had done so I would be out of a lot of money. We are going thru Wells Fargo with a renovation loan. Let's talk on the phone. Bidding projects properly is not that simple. You can talk with past and current clients. There is no way to start any project in 3 weeks. More like 3 months and winter will mess up pouring footers. This will require a phone conversation first. This way I can get you to grasp the process. A architect nis going to charge you $150.00 a hour to draw plans. I do not cost that much. There is a lot to cover. A phone conversation is a must first. I can give you a ball park number rather quickly that is why we need to talk email will not cover what needs to be discussed before a possible visit. I am very busy and it will be months before any construction begins. There are several things that I have stated that you have obviously misconstrued. Im not a stupid women by any means. I am a nurse and as far as the construction business I have a aunt that builds 1-3 million dollar homes. She retired last year and has helped me know what my cost should be and the process involved. Im not expecting a job to start in 2-3 weeks. If you had taken the time to read the email you would have seen that I said I started this in Aug and was hoping to start it around Dec. I am that busy and no we can not work together. I read your emails and the other contractors have not returned a bid. I do not have time right now. That is being honest. Wanting to start in 3 weeks is not realistic. Good luck in your search for a contractor I could not break ground on your project for at least 4 months. As far as the multi million dollar homes many times they are the worst people to work with. I will write a reply. I charge for bids and drawing plans. You are out of line. Have a Good Day! My current clients waited for 8 months for me to start and I do not job hop. If your aunt knows so much then she should know you will need a set of plans and specifications to bid this properly. If you need a designer hire a architect if you will not pay me for my time. 2-3 weeks is harassment of me on your part. I am out over a month just to meet with you. On a addition you are looking at starting price of roughly $140.00 a sq ft and the price goes up from there. Decks I am at $35 a sq ft and up from there. You can put $200 a sq ft or more in a house or addition not hard to do. I can understand why the other contractors have not contacted you. The problem is you not everyone else. I offered to talk with you to explain things on the phone and you refused, obviously. Again I have a process to this for good reason. You are out of line. I am not your slave. Have a Good Day!

    responded promptly to my email with a price and explained it would be
    made from treated wood and delivered to my home.  He kept in touch along
    the way and scheduled a time for delivery and showed up when he said he
    would and delivered the product just as I had requested.  Was prompt at responding to phone messages or emails.

    Mr. Handyman of Northern St Joseph & Elkhart Co
    I called Mr. Handyman on Nov. 10 or 11th (I can't remember) about a leak. They were prompt in scheduling an appointment for November 12. The technician showed up right at 8am. Because we thought that the issue was that water was leaking through the gap in the caulking, I told him to repair it. It took approx. 3.5 hrs. (he actually went to his van to do the invoice at 11:20am and returned with it at 11:24am, but they bill by rounding up on the 1/2 hours of service; also 1 hr. of that time was spent on him going to a store to look for a particular kind of caulk). Upon getting home that evening, I looked more closely at the job done. There were at least 3 large, gaping holes in the caulking bits of caulking left at various places on the tub and shower surround, and in general the job was very sloppy (the caulking was not done neatly, etc.) Also, in an attempt to protect my bathtub finish, he used tape that actually took up the glaze on a number of places (at least 6 small spots). He repaired this with a paint (for which, I believe, I was charged!), but the repair work is fairly obvious; I will probably now have to get the tub reglazed eventually.  In any event, I called the office after hours, left a message, and sent an email to voice my complaint about this.

    I received an email back on November 13, telling me that the same technician would return on Friday, November 14. I told them that I wanted someone else, and they agreed. That technician came on Friday, a bit late -- but it was snowing, so I had no problem with that. He filled in most of the gaps nicely and did a nice job smoothing out with more caulk a number of the areas that were terribly crooked. He missed, however, one large gap on the shower surround near one of the shelves. On November 19 I noticed this when the leak came back, and asked them to send someone to take care of it. Later that day I received a call from Kim at the office, telling me that the only real solution was to replace the surround (which the first technician said would run me around $2500). I promptly refused and told him that someone first had to come and take care of the original job completely. He said that a tech would come on November 20 at 8am. By 8:40 no one had arrived, and so I decided to give up on Mr. Handyman and buy a caulking gun to take care of the last spot myself. I sent Kim an email about this; he called and left me a voicemail and email telling me that they would be happy to re-schedule, but I declined. In the meantime, as it turns out, the problem was something else entirely. I filled the bathtub partially with water on the night of November 19, and found that it was draining slowly because of some kind of block. I used a gel unblocker (a generic form of Drano) 2x, the block became clear, and the leak vanished.

    I chose Mr. Handyman based on the Angie's List reviews, and was disappointed. A very simple job ended up costing me almost $375 and was not finished even after two tries. This was a simple caulking job. In hindsight, I should have just done it myself. Judging by the reviews, my experience is not typical. Every business has its bad days, and unfortunately I got one of those. But, let the buyer beware...

    Both technicians, I should say, were extremely nice and answered any questions that I had for them.

    UPDATE: I contacted the owner about repairing the chipping on the tub in June. He was very kind and offered to come out to the house to look at it. He came and took several pictures, and told me that the glaze should not have been removed easily. He consulted with a local contractor who confirmed this. This was very helpful for me, because I know now that the original work was done incorrectly and now I can take it up with that contractor. Even though this doesn't fix the original problem, I really appreciate the owner taking the time to come and look at the problem himself, even several months later, and consulting with another company to let me know that another problem needs to be addressed.

    They did the job. Two people came, Left a year's warranty on their work. The other worker repaired a wall coat hanger at no extra charge. That took less than 10 min. I did not ask for their charge upfront. My mistake. I assumed that it would be reasonable based on Angie's other reviews. I was charged $125 for their driving time from Henderson, about 50 miles and $125 for installation. They were late because they went to the other side of Lake Gaston. Many people get lost but that usually happens once they get inside our subdivision. Don't use this service if it involves travel.

    Ty's All Around Service
    I called Ty's All Around Service because i had previously hired a company called Tonys Home Repair to install a fence and do some painting and put up new gutters. Well they didnt complete anything and was always late. I got a flyer in the mail from.Ty's they came out gave me a free estimate and removed the carpet that was installed wrong for free and re placed it as well as installed the fence painted all five rooms and replaced my gutters in one day. I was so pleased that i have ask them to repave my driveway next week. I just had to share this because they are great.

    We heard great things about Handyman Hendricks from a friend so we called him as we had just moved and our home needed many different things done. The first time that he came out was when he created a kitchen pantry from a small closet. I described what I was thinking and he made exactly what I had been thinking. He also cut shelves that I already had to adapt to a new cable cord and he cut and installed new shelves to our kitchen cabinets to provide extra space in our cupboards. Our master shower was in dire need of repair. He removed and replaced all the caulking while also repairing the baseboard tiles that had come off the wall. We were so pleased with his work that we had him come back a second time asked him to create a walk-in closet with lots of shelves for shoes in an extra bedroom, which turned out beautifully and to paint our master bedroom walls and all the mouldings. He also replaced all the hardware in the room. The third time that he came was to paint our living room and that was a true commentary on his ability because there is a lot of cabinetry that needed extensive taping off. It turned out beautifully! We will definitely call him again for any of our home needs. Very knowledgeable, cleans up everything after job is finished and is very pleasant to be around.

    Did not have to replace drip edge or 90% of the plywood covered in the bid.  Did not remove the 2 wind driven vent turbines per contract and use ridge venting on entire house as per contract. Did not buy shingles that matched the old shingles so house was done in a slightly different color (but it was acceptable). Ran short on the last side of the work shop building (said it was because he spaced the shingles on the other side much closer than originally bid to do) and had to go buy additional materials to finish.  These were about 10 shades LIGHTER than all the other shingles used on the 3 buildings, resulting in one side of the work shop having dark brown shingles and the other side, with the additionally purchased shingles being beige.  First time it rained, the roof leaked in the same 3 places it had before the new roof was put on.  Came back and I was told by other workmen the roof was "not installed correctly" the first time. These men stayed about 6 hours and left.  Next rain, roof still leaked in one place.  No one ever came to rectify that complaint.  I was told "no nails or bits of shingles" would be found after they left.  I found DOZENS of old and NEW nails, eve some full strips of nails for the nail guns all over the yard as well as pieces of shingles in every bush.  Limbs that were cut during the roofing and I was told would be cut up and taken to the street, lay there until I hired someone to remove them.  Charge for the project was raised at the end eventhough I provided 5 squares of shingles and only 10% of the plywood required was used in the end, no drip edge was needed, only 1/3 of the ridge venting was used, and a poor job of clean up and removal was done.  Repeated calls to the company were not returned. 4 months after the work was done the roof still leaks in one of the places it did BEFORE it was replaced.  I was told all gutters would be removed and diverters would be installed over doorways.  NO gutters were removed and NO diverters were installed  One diverter was left in the yard.  Company owner who was to be here 100% of the time was rarely ever here. Much more work was available for the company.  The owner began 2 additional projects but never returned to work on them after the initial 30 minutes he spent on them.  This left me without the use of my HOT WATER & without the use of my 2nd BATHROOM because he ripped out the vanity & lavatory and disconnected the hot and cold water with the hot water heater being turned off until the pipes were fixed; however he never came back again.  He did respond to 1 call after which he said he would be here the next morning.  That was 2 months ago and I have neither seen him nor heard from him since.  He never finished a job for which he charged me more than the contract called for & the terms called for $4000 up front and the balance after I received the balance of my insurance compensation; however on the last day, he told me his father-in-law had suffered a heart attack and he needed the balance due IN CASH that day or he could not pay his men or take his wife to see her dying father, so I foolishly paid him, leaving me no leverage to try and force him to correct undone work or fix the many undone things found after the workers left the site.

    I should have known better than to hire a guy who knocked on my door, but he seemed sincere and his initial work had some promise. We hired him to pressure wash the house, paint the fence, repair the missing brick on the front step, paint the deck railing, stain and seal the deck and porches, and paint the exterior doors. He assured me that he could have the job finished within a week. One month later he had finally finished the pressure washing, repaired the front step, and primed the fence. During that month he was only at the house about 5 days and never worked for more than 2-3 hours, except once when he stayed for about five hours. He constantly pestered me and my wife asking us to look at his work or asking to borrow some tool or gas for the pressure washer. After a month and more than thirty phone calls, I was fed up and fired him. I'm still waiting to see if I get the supplies that I paid for at the start of the job. Watch out for this guy!
