    Tom Taube and his crew of highly skilled workmen at Kitchen Tune-Up in Charlotte, created a fantastic new master bathroom in our home. They worked with us to keep the project within a budget we could handle and never talked down to us or made us feel like we should spend more. Tom and the crew listened to our questions, made adjustments as we went along and produced a spa-like bathroom that yields oohs and awws from all who see it. Would highly recommend this team!

    PRO TOPS INC
    If you like big promises and small performance then you will love Pro-Tops. Unfortunately I have nothing good to say about Pro-Tops. They made a lot of promises, they did a great sales job, but when it came time to deliver they are not only amateurs but dishonest. They delivered late, they delivered defective goods, and they delivered much disappointment. Not a single person I dealt with, from the sales guy to the owner, was a man of their word. If you want to overpay for poor work, then Pro-Tops is for you. To start, they promised they would install the counter tops in 3-5 days, they didn't deliver it actually took 30 days for them to complete the installation. When they finally did show up to install the counter tops, they had cut them wrong and the cutout for the stove top was 10 inches off. On top of that, they destroyed the sink that was supposed to be installed so they could do the proper cut. Since they cut two of the four pieces of marble wrong, they were going to have to scrap $2,000 worth of marble to make it right. They offered me a deal that if I could live with the mis-matches seams and live with the dents in the sink, they would use the scrap material to make me a new vanity for my master bath. I explained there are two vanities in my master bath and they said that was no problem, they would do both for free. It seemed a reasonable deal to live with the mismatches seams and a few dents in my sink to have two nice marble vanities in my master bath so I accepted their offer. They did their best to recut the marble and I went to their facility and it looked fairly good so I accepted. When the crew showed up for the install the first piece of marble didn't fit. They said it was no problem, they would cut it and it was no big deal. I told them I didn't want them to duct my sheetrock as it would weaken the support for the backsplash. They took the countertop out, cut it in the driveway, and brought it back in. It still didn't fit so they started cutting into my sheetrock which I asked them not to cut. They just assured me that they do this all the time, no big deal. I also noticed that they cut they made in the beautiful marble was jagged and rough and there was a big chuck missing from the edge. They brought in the second piece of marble and I noticed it had a big chip out of the corner. I called Andre, the guy that is supposed to make customers happy and he said he wasn't available but someone would come over to check it out. The guy came down and told me everything was fine and they would just fill it in with epoxy. Andre finally arrived and I told him I was very unhappy with their performance. He promised me I would be happy when the job was done. He asked me to let them complete the installation and then if I wasn't happy he would take the counter tops out and bring new counter tops. I said, fine, go ahead but I am not happy. There were several other problems with the installation, mismatched seams, scratches in the material, the cut-out for the sink was wrong, and they forgot to deliver the marble for the kitchen windowsill. They had to send out a second company to fix all the screw ups because they don't have the in house expertise to handle the mistakes they made. Aldo, the guy they sent, did a great job, but he couldn't fix the fact that the sink was off center and several other major issues. I was dissapointed, but I figured it would we worth it to get the master bath vanities done in the same marble. Unfortunately, after I wrote Pro-Tops the final check they decided they were not going to live up to their promise. They basically told me to screw off and they refused to return my calls. Do business with this company at your own risk. If you decide to do business with them you better get every single thing in writing because they are NOT men of their word. This was a very expensive lesson for me.

    Matt installed the tile we chose, and it looks great. Most importantly, he discovered hidden structural problems that were corrected to prevent damage to tile within a year or less. The room was previously improperly repaired and not level. Matt alerted us to the seriousness of the faulty repairs, and the bathroom was shored up with cement columns and beams and leveled by another specialist. After repairs were complete, Matt promptly resumed his installation. Matt's work is very high quality in workmanship. It is very evident that he takes his craft seriously and has good reason to be proud of his work.

    Crawlspace Medic
    The schedule of work areas was changed without notice, so I told owner (Greg Bajan) that we would do our own tile ( as listed as an option on the contract.) After removing the floor outside the shower, the subcontractors installed 2x10s between joists outside the shower(tile was crumbling in the shower). No support was provided under the shower, which was found later to have rotted joists extending into and past the adjacent hallway. This could not have escaped the notice of the subcontractors, but nothing was said. My tile installer removed the existing tile and found the room to be slanting over an inch in 3 ft. I brought in another contractor who installed two 8 in x 8 in x 16" in concrete supports with 24 in x 24 in x 10 in footers and 4 treated lumber joists 10-12 ft long. I paid $2,400 for this contractor to complete (over 3 days) what I had paid Crawlspace Medic $3,600 to do. This repair was completed in September after discovering all the work that was not performed by Crawlspace. The laundry room was reinforced in a short time with a 2x10. Subsequently, other contractors have reported wet plywood but no structural issues. The french drain was installed over a week or so primarily by one person hauling gravel piled on my driveway . He did good work installing the vapor barrier and french drain. This work prevented Crawlspace Medic from receiving straight F grades. The sump pump was spiced into existing wiring under the house. This has been re-wired. I don't know if it works. E-mails with pictures and invoices with the cost of completing Crawlspace Medic contracted work have been unanswered by the owner. Pictures of damage to the drywall in the adjacent bedroom have been ignored and denied. The fixtures have yet to be re-set due to ongoing repairs, but no monetary credit was given. For this, I paid $9,910.00.

    We had a fantastic experience renovating our kitchen with Ryan and his team at Atkinson Contractors. The initial meeting with Ryan was quick but informative. His quote arrived when he said it would and was broken down into different categories so it was easy to understand. Ryan's team was always on time and courteous when in our home and made sure to leave the worksite as clean as possible at the end of each work day. Any issues that arrived were quickly taken care of and they even finished our kitchen ahead of schedule. We are very glad we chose Atkinson Contractors and would use them again in the future.

    This is an UP DATE relative to my initial review on 3/11/2017, for Kitchen Tune-up: I received a call from Tom Taube where we discussed the reason for my initial C review. Tom stated that they had dropped the ball and that he wanted to make it right. He came back out and made several suggestions to compensate us for the problems we encountered. He was very sincere and offered to install, at no extra cost, additional cabinet features and to refund the added cost that I had disputed. As I said he was very sincere and concerned and his offer of compensation was more than I had expected. We accepted and set up a date for the installation. On the appointed date and time Tom came back out and completed his promise. Throughout this whole issue Tom was very professional. His attitude confirmed that his company provided true customer service and cared about their customers, on a personal level. Because of his professionalism and concern for his customers satisfaction, I would not hesitate to recommend him - and Kitchen Tune-Up - to any potential customers. He proved to us that their are still "stand up" companies that are willing to go the extra mile. I would give them a AA+ if there were a category for it. Thank you Tom and Kitchen Tune-Up.

    For installing the cabinets he did great. His work on cabinets and trim is really impeccable. However, he advertises himself as a home improvement company, and offers other services. We asked him while he was here installing cabinets if his company could also build built-in book shelves for us, and he said yes. He took the measurements before he left, and said he would call or email an estimate within a few days....but then he never did?? Even when we called and left a couple of voicemail messages asking about the quote, he just would not return a call or even a text about that at all? Just ignored us. Similar thing happened when we called again about his cost in repairing some water damage we had under the sink cabinet many months later....he took my call, which was nice, but when I asked if he could then provide a written estimate for me based on what we discussed, he didn't send the estimate...and then just would not return a call or text again when I followed up looking for it (which I told him we needed in order to have the company that damaged the inside of the cabinet, reimburse us for the cost of the repair)?? Very frustrating!! I guess the other jobs were too small for him to be of much interest, but I just wish he would have just told us that up front, and not offered to quote in the first place. I guess the bottom line is if you want him to install your kitchen cabinets, then he is probably your guy....but just don't expect responses to any job smaller than that.....

    I saw an ad in the Angies List Magazine for FCR (aka Unified Designs). I called them and spoke to Chris to schedule an appointment so he could look at my property in hopes to get an estimate for my kitchen & bathroom remodel. I'm also adding a bathroom to my bonus room so I wanted an estimate for that as well. After some phone tag we made the appointment in the beginning of March. On our initial call I told him where I live and specifically asked if it was an area he covered and he said yes. He came and spent about 2 hours at my home taking measurements of all the rooms. He said he wanted his plumber to come and look at the space in the bonus room. I sent email to Chris from the FCR site a few days after we initially met to see if he was going to be sending the plumber to look at the space and also to get a time frame of when i should have his rough estimates. Apparently, I shouldn't sent email through the company site of FCR and there is a different company name Unified Designs. Very confusing. Angies List magazine showed add for "FCR". Chris responded on 3/13 explained that he didn't see my email and apologized for the mix up but stated he should have mine completed by end of week (3/17). It was not a problem at all. Well, the 17th came and went and still no estimate. I emailed him again on 4/1 and said he said he was working on it but had 2 in front of me. Huh?? He said on the 13th he was working on it already. Oh he also said he has 5 new calls a day from new customers... then another email says he has 3 new calls a day, which all are irrelevant to me b/c 1.) he never told me at my house he had a capacity issue and 2.) I should be ahead of all the "new" requests. I asked him to call me on 4/3 b/c quite frankly I was tired of going back and forth in email and wanted speak over the phone. He responded, "certainly." Well I never got that call. I called him and left a message the day after...no return call back. This guy is full of one excuse after another. Who doesn't want $120k in new business!!?? I emailed him today and simply wrote, "I guess I'm not going to get a call back or estimate". Outside of this sarcastic email I was very polite and professional. This time his excuse was he was on spring break for 2 weeks. Don't you think considering you are already running behind and delayed you would tell the customer you will be out of town for the next 2 weeks. No mention of that until today. He can't even keep up with all the excuses he gave me. Looking back on this whole interaction, I don't think he had any intentions of giving me an estimate and this is why; Chris never said anything at my house about being behind or about being over committed, ignored my question about the plumber, not calling when he agreed to call, and the continuous excuses why he wasn't done. Chris was never rude or anything like that but he was not honest and did not handle this in a professional manor. You can't keep giving excuses and say your "professional".

    The installers left a terrible mess - I spent days chipping grout off my floors, doorknobs, baseboards, etc. In the bathroom the tile doesn't line up around the corners and we cannot get them to come fix it. They are giving us the run around.

    I called Goldstar Kitchens and left a message on a Friday and Rob called me back on Tuesday the 28th. I explained what I wanted to do. He asked if there was a "Mr.", which I found to be odd but said no. He scheduled an appointment with me the following Wednesday. He first asked me if 12pm was good and I said anytime on that day was fine b/c I was on vacation. Then he said lets do 1pm instead, I said fine. Well 1 pm came and went. I left him a VM around 1:30 to see if he planned on showing up. A little after 2 I sent him a text. Just before 3pm he called me back and he had no clue who I was or that he scheduled an appointment to meet with me. He asked if he could come now. I told him that was going to pass. If you can't make it to the first meeting I feel like it was a major red flag.
