    .From what I discovered in my research, this has happened before with salespeople from Monitronics.  I was not happy with these types of sales tactics, especially where my parents are concerned.  (He did the installation paperwork for our initial service, he knew that I was the account holder, and yet he called my parents.  At no time did he tell my mother that he was with Monitronics, and it wasn't until I asked him that he admitted it.  Senior citizens are frequently the target of this type of sales campaign.)
    I gave the company a "D" grade, for a few reasons.  First, the rep I spoke with at ADT (who was very helpful) told me that the gentleman had left them with a 6 months non-compete clause.  To be fair, he may have been working his old client list after his 6 months had expired.  Second, the company may be a good one.  I was just unimpressed by the sales pitch, to say the least.  And third, thanks to this gentleman's call, I discovered that ADT offers the same discounts and services that he was offering through Monitronics.  I've been able to setup for the new systems, with the medical alert options, and reduce my bill at the same time!  I'm grateful for that!

    We hired their service in Asheville /NC in the last year 2011. After about 3 months of alarm installed, the alarm system began to fail and after much struggle, discussion and waiting,a technician came to our house and even had to change the whole system, because
    it all  was in trouble. A month ago we moved to Charlotte /NC and although very unhappy with this company we had to keep it because of a 2-year contract. The system that they installed in the new home was brand new and was pretty much charged to make this transition (and it was very expensive). In less than two weeks of the alarm installed, their system began to malfunction again. The police were called twice (the alarm rang because of a failure). Both times I almost died of heart because I was in the house and I
    had to ran and hid in the room thinking it was someone coming to the house, my stress level has multiplied since I installed this crap alarm, which should bring me peace, comfort and safety and now it is a nightmare and a source of terrible stress.Returning to the case, the police first arrived at the house and found that there were no signs of broken glasses and no one wasbroken in the house, the policeman even spoke with somebody of ADT that they would have to check the system because it was defective. The second time the alarm rang, my husband spoke again with the attendant about the same defect andwas told to him that there would be a technician in 24 hours resolving the situation. Nobody appeared... I was in home this 24h waitting.5 days ago I called asking for the cancellation of the service, as well as the repayment of what with just paid (for an alarm systemthat should properly work) and they said I could cancel, but there would be none repayment and besides that I would have to paythe 75% penalty that says contract. They didn?t care about me and the system. Because I said that I would cancel this contract, that day an attendant called us to make an appointment for a technician visit that should solve the problem. We arranged the visit for two days later. I called the day before to confirm, I confirmed that I would be at home waiting for the technician.... Nobody appeared again. It Is the worse service ever. If you contract this company you will be regret for the rest of your life!!!!

    We contracted with CPI for 36 months.  We informed the sales representative (employee No. 3177) at the time there is a possibility that we may have to relocate during the 36 month period and were told we would be allowed out of the contract if: (a) we moved to an area where CPI does not provide service or (b) if the buyer of our home contracted with CPI.  Otherwise we would be in default and subject to 75% of the remaining month's payments.  We were okay with what we were told, although I should have known better than not to have the salesman's commitment in writing.  It just made sense to me that if we moved to an area where CPI does not provide service we would not be penalized, and if we moved to an area they did service I would have been happy to retain them.  By the way, it is not like they gave us anything free since we paid $198.00 for the equipment and installation and $726.95 in monthly service from June 2011 to September 2012.
    At one point we had problems with the system and got caught in a finger pointing exercise between CPI and Time Warner Cable, our telephone service provider.  We kept getting false alarms and we were resetting the system day and night.  Time Warner came to our home several times and usually within 24 hours of calling them.  They did everything they could to troubleshoot the system but finally gave up after four or five visits.  Between visits we called CPI and they did their troubleshooting over the phone and continued to blame it on Time Warner.  Time Warner said they play this blame game with CPI frequently and suggested we have them come to our house and physically trouleshoot the system.  We asked CPI to come to our home and they did; however, we had to wait about a week for them to come.  Meanwhile we continued to reset the alarm at all hours.  After they came to our home they did resolve the problem.
    It is now 10 September and my employer is relocating me to Ohio from Mattes, NC.  When we called CPI to cancel the service they said we would be charged $703.50 in accordance with the default provision of the contract for canceling.  We explained that we were relocating to Ohio for my employer and were told we were in default for early cancelation and would be charged 75% of the monthly fee of $46.90 for the remaining 20 months of the contract which is $703.50.  We explained what the sales representative told us and that CPI does not offer service in Ohio and that we thought they were being unfair.  We received no sympathy and in fact I called their representative Michael Scranton two times today and he failed to return either call, one of which was in the morning and the other in the afternoon.
    I feel like we have been ripped off - - $703.50 is not a small amount of money to me.  Such a rotten thing to do for a local company.  I know we were wrong not getting their commitment in writing regarding relocation, and as I said before I know better.  It just made sense that there is nothing we can do about having to relocate and since CPI doesn't offer service in Ohio why penalize us?
    My advice is to get anything CPI says in writing.  I also suggest contracting with a company that offers service nationwide, or at least an area greater than the Carolinas so you have options if you have to move.  What a bitter memory we will have of leaving Charlotte after nine wonderful years there.  Buyer beware.  Shame on CPI for taking advantage of us.  Don't be a victim.

    Michael came out the same day I called and he was on time and professional without being pushy.  He was very knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions I might have.  I would have chosen them if my husband hadn't really wanted to use try our cable service provider first.  With Diamond Electronics, you don't  have to sign a contract for monthly service. I like that.

    We have not had any false alarms which are basically due to the way the alarm is set up. We have service when we need it. They can come on over speakers to talk to you if they need to. They use your phone line, but will offer you a cellular back up in case your phone line is cut. They also will tell you if your phone line is cut or down and it will tell you so you will know that something is going on.

    They just seem professional but they are more in the back ground and you don't even think of it unless you need it. It seems to be a pretty good deal for us.

    They also offer a video option but we don't have that. We have not really looked into that but they have been advertising it lately. You can put a camera at your front door with a speaker and you can look and see who is actually at the door. It there is a delivery person there, you can answer the door as if you are inside the house and you don't want to talk to them or whatever and they can place whatever they want in there and then you can close it again. It is just kind of interesting.

    They are a very well-run company and they are there when you need them.

    It did not go at all.  Safe and sound responded only after repeated phone calls. this was especially irritating because safe & sound had pre-wired th ealarm, stereo and smart home system.  Can not recommend.  Would only recommend that you avoid this contractor.

    Excellent installation even though it wasn't equipment they were familiar with.  Initially they had a problem with the smoke detector wiring but they called to understand the technique - taking extra time to insure it was done correctly.  They came to my house several times prior to the installation to make sure they knew what needed to be done and that I had all the equipment that was needed.  I had to order an extra part because I didn't have enough zones originally on the panel alone.  But they told me exactly what was needed and scheduled the install a couple of days after the part came in.

    We had a very good experience. He was retrofitting a bunch of old windows and an old system and he upgraded and we are very happy with the service. There were several that we looked at and we were disappointed in what was being offered in the prices. He offers a good product. We liked his attention to detail. He offered good solutions. He offers solutions that really matches our need and doesn’t oversell us products. What he sells is not ridiculously priced. He doesn’t go changing the price every year. All the other companies change their price every year. When I ask him for solutions, he gives me a couple of options that I can choose from. He worked with me on trying to find an optimum security solution for me. Their monitoring solution is also first grade. They are very responsive. We are very pleased with the overall installation. They came out and assessed it one day and they came back with all the equipment and installed and we had no issues at all. We like him. He is much better than all the other major brands that are out there. We would use him again in the future if necessary.

    Protection 1 Security Solutions
    On June 23, 2011, I contacted Protection One to schedule an appointment.  I met with the Security Specialist to discuss their system.  On the morning of June 24, I contacted the company to tell them that if they could arrive and install the System on Saturday morning (25th), the business would be theirs.  The Consultant, informed me that that was not an issue.  The installer was scheduled to arrive between 8 and 10 am.  The consultant said they would likely arrive between 8:30 and 9am.  They installer was never made aware of the timing (by the salesperson) and showed up near 12 noon.  After a full afternoon, the installer and General Manager informed me that the internet portion of the system was not working properly and would need to be finished up later than week. 

    Another installer came out that following Tuesday (28th) to finish the system.   He informed me that there were STILL  problems (with internet/e-secure) and that they would need to come out again.  The following day (29th), while I was away on business, the alarm went off.  While we learned that it was a false alarm, when the security center contacted me to make sure I was ok, I informed them that I was fine but that they needed to contact the police to ensure my home was safe.  When the specialist called me back (maybe 60 seconds later), they informed me that the police could not come out because I did not have a permit for my city, which was something that Protection One never informed me (at any point in the process) that I needed.  This very easy bit of advice was never verbally told to me and is something I would think an alarm company would tell you that you needed, especially if their regional headquarters was located in the same small city as your home?. Matthews.  it seems to me that they should know the laws of the city where their base operation is located.  I had no idea if my home was being broken into or what was going on and because Protection One did not let me know that the system needed to be registered with the Matthews police department.  This cost them nothing to tell me that I needed and was completely neglected.  While the contract states that I need to follow local laws and obtain necessary permits in my city small, the alarm company could have at least informed me about those laws in my city and what I needed to do.  The mere fact that the process had been unprofessional (and still unfinished) to this point and then there was a possible emergency that could not be addressed and the proper authorities would not come out was very disappointing.

    I have since gone from my demanding them to take their system out of my home (on June 29th) to the General Manager still NOT scheduling a time or calling me back since our last actual conversation on morning of Wednesday the 6th of July when he agreed to have his team come back out.  I also placed another call the morning of July the 11th and this call has also not been returned.

    The false alarm was triggered by an old alarm that was not their motion detector; however, as part of their installation, they also tested this very detector and said that this detector seemed fine. I also later realized that they broke a small, black desk lamp that I only very recently noticed was cracked at the base. The e-secure portion of my system still has not yet been installed and COMPLETED.   The General Manager has acknowledged that this needs to be installed/corrected/COMPLETED on a voice mail that I have from June 29th as well as another voice mail I have saying he ?does not blame me? for being very upset but now will not even return my call.  

    In full disclosure, the company did want to try and make this right but I informed them that I did not feel comfortable with their system and capabilities and wanted to go with another company.  This is where the conversations have since stopped.  I would exercise caution when dealing with this company.
