    Dry Otter Waterproofing Inc
Im out Thousands of dollars and still in need of home repairs. Dan S, (Dry Otters Site inspector.) came to inspect and give me a quote on 11/28/17.I stated my reasons for seeking help. Excessive Settling (Dips in the sub-floor throughout the house.) Squeaky floors, bad odors, (mold) dampness etc. After inspection, Dan told me I also had wood rot. Said a wire insulation support he picked up went right through the wood with little/no effort. Horrified, I took Dans word for it. He offered to show me, but I was unable to go look. I told him that a bad back and that an acute stroke left me in constant pain, with limited mobility. In hindsight, sharing that information with Dan was a Big Mistake! Essentially informing him that I had no way of getting under there to verify, or check any work done . When Dan called back, I informed him I narrowed to 3 companies, and he was in 2nd place. He asked How much do I need to come down in price? The figure was 2k .Dan sent me a new quote for $15,832 total. We made an appointment for 12/11/17. Where I reiterated exactly what I wanted done. Now "Re-prioritized" after Dans inspection report. 1) Replace all rotten wood and *sister any joists that showed any weakness at all. 2) Level my floors, and stop all the squeaks. 3) Kill the mold. 4) Encapsulate, and waterproof, so I never need worry again. Dans more than cheerful reply? WE CAN DO ALL OF THAT! As Dan began to write the contract details, I didnt see what was discussed. He said he had to Itemize the material per company policy. Okay, I saw mold remediation written. I saw pipe, gravel, sump pump, install electrical outlet. I saw replace plywood, 4x8 posts, (Assumed to replace rotten wood okay) I saw sister joists, adjust & level floors, okay. All sounds right, doesnt it? Dan left very happy with a deposit of $3958. Tuesday January 16th. Apparently, Dan had missed the heat & air system which was (Big as a cow) smack in the middle of where supports needed to be placed. He returned with a heat & air guy who proposed to move the equipment 3 feet to either the left or the right. Only it would cost me near 4k and (the fun part) his guy couldnt guarantee it would work after all was said and done! Eventually, "Dans mistake" ended up costing "Me" $5800 More for new system when the old one still worked fine ! Job Finally Finished End of February 2018, After countless delays Kevin Sanders (Owner) had to personally go under the house and work to get the job done, and left with final check for $11,874.00. Fast forward: When my flooring contractor comes for installation, in 2 places he literally pushes his hand right through the Sub-Floor! He says not the worst of it, and asks me to follow him. I grab my cane & follow him outside. He opens the crawlspace hatch and climbs in. I said I couldnt follow. (Previously mentioned stroke) He told me to stay there. He stepped just behind the hatch reached up & showed me a fistful of Crumbled Wood. He said This is what Your House is Sitting On! (Video Link) [*** Link removed ***] PANIC! I couldnt believe it I called Otter Owner Kevin Sanders. His response? That Wasnt in your Contract! WHAT? I collapsed, I couldn't Breathe! Fearing another stroke, I ended up in the ER!. Follow up phone calls were intercepted by Kevin's Office asst. He instructed her to tell me to call his lawyer instead. Response from the owner: We take your concerns very seriously and attempted to discuss this issue with you when it was brought to our attention. Unfortunately, we felt it was in your best interest to defer to a third party and those attempts to resolve and communicate have failed because you will not return his calls. RE-Otter Response: The "THIRD PARTY" Otter's response referred to is "Otters Lawyer". REALLY?? I should call "YOUR" Lawyer for "MY" best interest? "YOU PEOPLE "ASTOUND ME! NOTE: I had to edit my original post (Below) to respond.

    von Bargen Construction
He said he was licensed General Contactor, insured and bonded. I told them about what happened with other contractor up front. That we are disabled and I have brain damage. That we do not make money. What we have from the sell of our home is all the money we have to build with. I wish I had not been open with them now. I feel as they seen us as easy targets to scam knowing we can not afford to sue the first contractor and finish part of home improvement. He dropped what they was doing to come get our money. I have the phone call of him telling us he guarantee the money for deposit was only for our materials. And tell us how he would not do anyone wrong. We gave our consent to record our calls. Listening to it now it was all untrue. We told them we only had $20,000 to do job. He said he could build garage for that price. We said we had one more contractor on his way. He said if we did not give him $5,000 now the price and place in line would change if he left. We signed contract and Paid $5,000 in cash on 10/17/2018. On 10/26/2018 I told contractor we couldn't afford to get permit in our name. He said to just build without a permit. I keep telling him I want it to be inspected and legal in case we had to sell later and we could not afford a new building permit in my name. Him and his wife keep telling us that where we live just to build it without proper authorization. I said our last home we sold we had problems with addition not permitted. They keep saying realtor have ways around that. After many talks on 11/12/2018 I texted and asked if he was starting tomorrow. He asked if I got permit. I said no. He said he needed more money for him to get fill, permit and plans over $2,500 upfront. We said we told you we only have $20,000 and already payed you $5,000 of that money. He said he will work on new price with cutting back on finishing garage. I said no. On 11/13/2018 we asked for money back. He said he spent on other things. He said he will pay us the $5,000 back as soon as he can. He would pay us back hopefully with in a year. I said thats not good for me and asked if I should talk to attorney. He got mad said I was threatening him. And them they started saying that the deposit is mostly not refundable in most cases. Then he did promise to pay us in full just how and when ever he can. Said he had $500 to pay but he did not. No work proformed and no materials.

    Pinnacle Custom Decks & Remodeling
Very unprofessional, no qualified employees, 10 day job took over 3 mo., used cheapest materials and wrong materials. Every aspect, from finishing Sheetrock to installing floor had to be done over again at least 3 times. NOTHING was done right! Julian Pervine, owner, said hed be on job everyday, but was rarely ever on the job, and lied about everything. His employees had no experience and didnt know how to do anything. We are having to have some of the materials torn out and replaced with proper materials, the rest well just have to live with! DO NOT RECOMMEND!

    Straight Edge Painting Pros
I recently bought a historically house in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Wes with Straight Edge Painting Pros came out and gave me a thorough estimate. I went with Wes because he offered to have a color consultant from Sherwin Williams come out and help me decide on colors. It was such a relief, and Carol has a great vision on what to do with the house. Wes and Dennis replaced quite a bit of wood rot (a lot of extra that we didn't see initially as well). Each piece was replaced in whole and the guys worked on prepping the house for 3 days. The house looks beautiful and now I can move in and not have to worry about what to do with the exterior! Thanks Straight Edge!

Called and spoke with Jeff but his Mom or his aunt was in the hospital and he could not come out to do an estimate. We never heard back from him.

    Admiring Painting Services LLC
The actual owner, not a representative, came to our home and gave us a quote. His quote was very competitive especially with the discount he offered for senior citizens. After comparing quotes and general feel of the people we talked with, we called him back and said he had the job if he wanted it. We were impressed by his honesty about the different quality of paints, the pluses and minuses of each, and his openness about our questions and concerns. He was delayed starting the job by one day due to delays caused by the weather (nearly a solid week of rain) but called us several days in advance to talk with us about it and to apologize. The plan was for him to start on Friday and complete our family room and trim. He showed up with 3 other workers and I retired to the other side of the house with our dogs. When I checked later, not only had they completed the family room but moved the furniture and finished the dining room, kitchen and all of the doors, windows and trim. They filled all the nail holes in the walls, repaired any places on the walls that needed it (damage caused by our children), removed all wall electrical covers, light switch covers and moved all furniture as needed. By the end of the first day they had painted, fixed holes and completed the trim work for the majority of the job. They had covered everything in plastic, so no paint or dust from sanding would leave a mess on anything. When I came out they were on their hands and knees moping my floors, even though I did not see any paint smears or drops on the floors. My home was left clean and neat by the painters on the first day and as far as I could tell it was looking like a well done paint job. Since it was Friday, the owner told me they would be back around 8 or 9am on Monday to work on the rest of the area that we wanted painted. When arriving on Monday, around 8:30am, it was only 2 people that showed up and one of them was the owner. He told me that he would probably have to come back the next day because he did not think that they could finish because of having to paint around so many little things in the laundry room. (Three days was his original estimate and this was just his second day anyway). He was able to not only finish the entire job on this day, a day early, but also went back and touched up a few things ?he? was not happy with things we didn?t even notice. In two days they painted 3 large rooms with extremely high vaulted ceilings, 2 small rooms, 2 small hallways, a stair well and a utility room. They did an excellent job and worked constantly throughout the day, except for an hour lunch break. I had no mess to clean up what so ever when they were finished. They also gave me the leftover paint, which was almost a full gallon, and brought an additional gallon that we had requested for touch-ups, as needed due to our dogs and children. This painting company went above and beyond and it is like I have a new house. The company is excellent and did exactly what they said and more. I would highly recommend Admiring Painting Services to everyone.

    Carolina's Best Log Homes
The crew worked with us each step of the renovation,to be able to stay in our home. My husband is disabled and we have 3 small dogs, so it was important to us not to have to move out during the work. They were very careful with our furniture and personnel belongings. At the end of each day all their mess was cleaned up so we didn't have a mess to deal with. The end result was beautiful, we couldn't be happier, and everyone that comes into our home remarks about great it looks.

    A WOMAN'S TOUCH HOME REMODELING
In addition to being a professional home remodeling expert, Debbie Van D*** is an outstanding interior decorator and a talented painter. She does not advertise, but works full time by "word-of-mouth" and customer referrals only. Debbie makes recommendations, prepares the estimates, purchases all materials, provides her own equipment, and does the work herself. She is friendly, does excellent work, and is in high demand. It can be several weeks before she is available, due to the number of clients who are in line for her work, but the outcome is well worth the wait!!! Debbie is punctual, easy to work with, and attentive to her customer's needs. The work is done in a timely fashion, with excellent attention to detail. She is a very good communicator, and you can take what she tells you to the bank. No pressure on the sales side, and is open and honest. She never tries to expand the scope of work, but she is flexible to what her customers might request. Her prices are very competitive. I have worked in the engineering field for thirty five years for a large multi-national company, and I have worked with a large number of contracting firms of all sizes as part of my responsibilities. Debbie Van D*** ranks with the very best, in my experience!!!
