Very reliable Contractor. HONEST, TRUSTWORTHY, sends pictures of Work PROGRESS, We live FAR from Kill Devil Hills so having a contractor like this means the world to us. HE has worked for us now for 25 YEARS. If you are wondering what kind of work this man does just drive by 1717 Bay Dr. KDH. He oversees Electrical work, plumbing work, a new concrete drive way, & Checks on our place. Keeps a key to our place. Michael is THE MOST DEPENDABLE CONTRACTOR at the OBX !!! If he does not do a good job for you I'll EAT MY HAT !!! HE IS A JACK OF ALL TRADES!

    Outer Banks Remodeling

We received an estimate on 6/25/15 from Outer Banks Remodeling to replace our kitchen island cabinets in our secondary house in Kill Devil Hills, NC.  In early July, we sent a check in to them for half of the estimate amount.  On July 13th, I received an email that said I would be told when the cabinets came in.

On 9/1/15, I reached out to them via email "Hi Mike.  I was wondering if the island replacement came in and when you wanted to begin the work."  I got no response.

On 10/1/16, I again reached out to them: " Mike/Kevin, I haven't heard anything back from you about the kitchen island replacement.  Do you have any time we can schedule this?  We live out of town so I will need to schedule a time to be down there.  We would just like to get something on the schedule.

After hearing nothing from them, I decided to try to call them.  I did make contact and we mutually agreed that they would schedule me for 12/15/15.  I made another call in November to verify the 12/15 date and was angrily asked why I was calling because we were already on the schedule for the 15th of December.

I felt that I had to call because I never heard anything from them (except when it was time to collect money or give an estimate).  It has been my experience that the customer should be the recipient of work scheduling calls and not the initiator.  However, I became increasingly concerned after paying approximately $1,500 and not getting any acknowledgement whatsoever.

In accordance with our agreement, I drove down there from Northern Virginia (approx. 600 mi. round trip) on 12/14 to be there specifically for this work. On the morning of 12/15, I called their number and spoke with Kevin M. Jones/Owner.  He told me that he would touch base with Mike and assured me that I was on the schedule for today.  At 2:30PM, after hearing nothing, I attempted to contact them and had to leave a message at the main number.  I called Mike White's cell number and when it came time to leave a message after no answer, it would not allow me because the mailbox was full. I continued to try to contact them throughout the remainder of the afternoon and finally Mike White ( aka the owner) picked up, identified himself and he abruptly hung up after I identified myself.  This occurred several more times during the afternoon and evening where my calls were ignored or disconnected.  I called the main number again and left a message requesting a refund of the money I paid in deposit.

Later that evening, I received the following email from Kevin Jones: "We're very sorry for the delay and scheduling error which resulted in our missing the appointment today. At this point we will be returning your deposit per your request.  Once again we apologize."

I responded to this email, thanked him for responding and provided him our address to refund the deposit.  On December 21st, I sent an email asking when we could expect to receive our deposit refunded.  My follow-up emails and calls continue to be ignored.

    RJC Custom Construction
The contractor seemed very knowledgeable about the work to be done and kept us updated regularly on progress. The finished result was beautiful. Bobby came up with some good ideas for several design challenges in the kitchen and bath areas that turned out great.
Unfortunately, we soon ran into a couple of problems. The first one (April 2014) was minor; a leak under the kitchen sink. I tried to contact Bobby directly without success, so we had to engage the services of a local plumber. The source of the leak was traced to sink drain, which we learned was made of plastic (a much cheaper material) and had cracked. We had the plumber put in a stainless replacement and the problem was resolved.
The second incident in June was much more serious. The electric tankless water heater sprung a leak. Again, I attempted to contact Bobby without success. The local plumber that we engaged contacted the manufacturer, only to learn that this model had long ago been discontinued due to quality/safety concerns and it could not be repaired! We are not sure where RJC Custom Construction sourced the water heater, but we were never successful in getting them to send us documentation on the unit, nor do we have proof of purchase, so the manufacturer will not stand behind the product.
At this point, I am now questioning the quality of the remainder of the work that was done. Since we have been unsuccessful in making any contact with RJC Custom Construction, I am unsure if these issues were the result of the poor work of a subcontractor or not. Either way, I am extremely disappointed that this contractor has not returned our calls.
The price of the job was fair, we believe, but by no means the lowest bid we received. Looking back on this entire event, I would have chosen another contractor had I realized this would be the end result. Buyer Beware!!!!

McGee and Sons, The Gentleman Plumber
,I couldn't have asked for a better plumber, and person to work with. Mike is truly the Gentleman Plumber. I was kept apprised of the progress and issues that he faced with the job. This communication was very important to me since the house he was working on was 2 1/2 hours from my primary residence. The 63 year old beach house where Mike was doing the renovation belonged to my grandparents and has been passed down to me. Mike was incredibly respectful of the unique qualities and challenges that the house presented and treated his work with it as if it were his own home. No detail was too small, no problem arose that he couldn't overcome. The bathroom is now a showplace. I know that in Mike, I have found someone who is invested in my house and keeping it up and running. This is truly a relationship that will continue for many, many years. I've already spoken with him about re-plumbing the outdoor shower in the Spring!! He will have my business for years to come.

It went great..............we were happy our neighbor recommended Michael.  Michael worked under the watchful eye of the Town of Kill Devil Hills inspectors and kept us informed with emails and pictures of his progress.  I do not believe you can find another builder like Michael A. Radan at the Outer Banks!   Trusting Michael with everything we own at Kill Devil Hills goes a long way with us!

Great. Hopefully he will be back soon for more roof repairs (thanks to Earl) and to do some interior painting. Eventually we will also call him to replace decking. Hire him and you will be very happy with the work.

    CK Custom Kitchens
We found their site on Google and signed up - they offered a free design consultation. Scott, one of the owners, called me within a couple hours and we talked about the kitchen we're looking to renovate. Scott was really attentive, and sounded very experienced. He quickly went over some of the brands they carry (pretty much the ones I was already looking for online) and we set up a time to meet him and his wife Tara at our house. They showed on time and came to measure everything and took some pictures. Afterwards, they took us through a 3d model of our kitchen and how it'd look with the new cabinets. Everything looked the way we wanted, so we went ahead and hired them. They quickly went to work - their professionals were always clean, on time, and got the job done with MINIMAL noise. Kind of curious how they were able to do it, but the cabinets all fit perfectly, looking even better than they did on the 3D model. We're now thinking of updating our countertops with them too - they carry a line of Quartz Surfaces that is beautiful. Overall, I think we could've got it done cheaper, but I doubt it'd look this good and the service would've been this good. Highly recommend them! In the meantime,
