  • We built out home in 2016 and while our house is beautiful from the outside the list of problems has grown and grown. They were 4 months past the date we were told our home would be done. We had several mistakes made in our construction. The woman who helped us with the design side of things was not as knowledgeable as she should be when it came to features we could have added to our home. Shortly after we moved in we had several problems with our heating and air conditioning. We spent our first winter without heat several times over the winter and even had no heat on Christmas. Our second summer in our new home we had a flood in the second floor from the ac unit cause damage to our upstairs with water pouring out of the ceiling. The painters did a second rate job and the caulking was a mess. Now we are 6 months out of warranty and our ice maker in our Frigidaire freezer stoped working. The dishwasher was not working well for some time. We discovered there was a slow leak. There is no telling how long this was going on for. We noticed it when the wood flooring in our kitchen started to pop up. After lifting several of the warped boards we found terrible water damage. We have tons of water under our floors with mold and a horrible smell. The damage is throughout the entire kitchen into part of our living room. The floors will have to be replaced and we have to have a mold removal company come in. This is sure to cost us in the thousands. Since we are 6 months out or warranty this is now our burden. While the people that we have felt with in the past in the main office have been great and repairs were made in a timely fashion it is very upsetting that we have been in our “ dream home” for a year and a half and now have to have this nightmare of damage and expense and well as the fear of mold effecting our children’s health not to mention the inconvenience and mental stress this puts on us. I expected to have no real issues since this is a new construction. Yes they have fixed the things they legally had to it not something you expect to have happen when you build a new and expensive home. The model home was constructed beautifully and we had expected that level of work in our home as well. We had thought we were lucky as our neighbors home had so many problems from mold to poping up floors and after they moved in they had their house re worked on for over a year. They turned out to be they lucky ones because at least their home was still under the warranty. This level of continual damage makes us fearful of what will happen next. We are great full it’s just water damage and not a fire or something life threatening but we are also scared to think what will happen next. When you move into your dream home that you have worked and saved for your entire life you expect things to last more that 18 months nor do I think you should have to worry about the health out your family. We could not be more unhappy with what has happened and can not wait to fix the damage and sell this house. I would not recommend building with bill clark to anyone. The stress this has put on our family is so great and now it’s becoming a financial burden as well. We were fooled into thinking we were going to be getting our forever dream home that has now become our worst nightmare.

  • They prompt returning calls. Came out to give a free estimate within a week of the initial conversation. They were a bit backed up from a lot of business and also a lot of rain so they couldn't do the instal for 2-3 weeks out. I called at the 3 week mark, and they came out the very next day to start the job and returned the following day to finish...even after a VERY heavy rain that same morning. We are please with the product, the installation, the professionalism and friendliness of everyone that was a part of the process.

  • We would like to recommend Shane and Ann's crew without reservation for any projects large or small that you are planning to do at your home!  Here are just a few of the reasons why.

We came upon Coastal Building using Angie's List and once again without disappointment!  Shane and Ann are probably two of the most trustworthy business professionals we have had the opportunity to work with.  They are prompt, professional, honest, and they care about doing a great job!  We relocated from 11 states away to NC just a month ago, and needed to add a large addition to our home that was just purchased.

From day 1 Shane and Ann have helped us materialize what would be best for our family, ensure that it will aesthetically look like it was originally built with the house, they have helped us with HOA and County approvals and beyond.  They have also done this at a cost that I don't think could be beat by the best competitors in their market in the surrounding area, and we know that the product will be better than any of their competitors as well.

Above and beyond all of this we feel like we have personally made family friends that will last.  Thank you Shane and Ann for the great job your crew does!  To those individuals looking for the right builders... look no further, Coastal Building is the real deal and they will not disappoint!

    Sincerely,

    Ryan & Crystal Domack

  • Buyer Beware - This builder does not stand behind their product. The partial repairs done a week ago "we're a gift" according to the owner Chaz.
3 other homes in my cul-de-sac, that have all been sold in the last year, also had issues. I dared to question the one year warranty and in turn he said we will not fix it! Yet he was kind enough to leave me a copy of their warranty book last week...so now I have two worthless copies.
Just a couple of examples we have come accross in the 3 months of living there:
2nd day in the home the lights flickered a couple of times and then didn't work in all but 1 bedroom. The contractor said he would be out with 48 hours. My kids were scared to sleep in their own rooms. The foreman was mad we bothered him that night and I had to call Chaz in the morning to get him to understand the safety issue with kids being in the home with potential electrical issues...at that point it was fixed that day.
Ceiling pops in bathrooms after living in a home for a couple of months is not considered a structural issue. Even though in one of the bathrooms the ceiling pops are causing water stains and the paint is chipping on the ceiling from the exposure of steam from the shower.... seems like a design flaw and red flag of a structural issue in the making!
The light above the shower has the same issue with nail pops and a water stain ring around the whole light - again not a builder issue....
Rust coming from nails on the porch railings that are exposed because they were not sealed properly are also not an issue - oh I am sorry putting caulk in the holes and not paiting them was the fix to that problem. I have rust running down the hand rails from those semi-chalked holes every time it rains!  Guess I should of done the home inspection in the rain.
In under a week, one of the ceiling repairs already popped and the paint is cracking again. Although he admits they didn't treat the area when fixing it last week. Instead they put several coats of paint over the spots they repaired. He said the ceiling needs to be treated and sealed with Kilz....so why didn't they do that?  Oh that's right the repairs were "a gift". Clearly there is an issue but maybe my ceiling would have to fall in before they would cosider that!
The nail holes in the door frames were not filled properly and sanded before being painted in some of the rooms but that is not there problem either. - oh but they did fix the overcut on the door frame by the tub and used a different shade of paint..so now my door frame is 2 different colors!  "thanks for the gift".
My bathroom sink in the master is seperating from the wall... but I guess that is to be expected in a brand new house too!
In addition - this makes my skin crawl - there were roaches living in the stone on the front of my porch.... luckily we naturally had someone spray the house and exterior when we first moved in and they uncovered this fact when spraying....another gift?
I wasn't born yesterday and this isn't my first new home. I do understand a house settles and will shift over time...but we have only lived in our home for 3 months and 10 days. The issues were first brought up a month ago to the foreman on site at another home they are currently building....but that got us no where. What good is a warranty that doesn't cover the house? I bought a brand new home from Bill Clark 11 years ago and it had a 10 year warranty. I only had to call 1 time in 10 years. That was 6 years into owning the home and the issue was taken care of no questions asked.
If I hadn't already put extra money into this home...it would be on the market for sale! Then I could buy a QUALITY home from a reputable builder that would stand behind their homes!
If you choose to buy a home from this builder you will need to look at every inch of the house and point out EVERY possible issue you see with the home - the 1 year warranty is a sham and doesn't mean anything. Make sure your bathroom ceilings are treated with Kilz because any issue after closing is not their problem. Buying one of their homes comes with the same guarantee as buying a previously lived in home. You would think spending money on a brand new home would mean you are buying something of quality - I have just been proven wrong!
How can you consider it quality when you don't stand behind your own work?

  • Awesome professional to work with. Job came in on time and within budget. Top quality workmanship used only quality products. No shortcuts or below grade materials. No last minute added expenses.

  • We purchased a lot a couple of years ago, we had a very difficult time finding a builder that we felt comfortable with until our friend and realtor Kelly Wiggins from Caldwell Banker recommended Tony and Jeff from Elite Developers. We initially met with Jeff and reviewed our plans with him at our lot. Having built before it was clear Jeff knew all the right questions to ask and gave us suggestions on what options and things we could change or choose. During that meeting he actually brought us to a house they just completed that was for sale and the quality of work spoke for itself. We contracted with Elite to build our house. Unfortunaltey for Tony and Jeff they were dealing with a couple who had built a house before and had a horrible experience, so we questioned many things and were apprehensive about some decisions; every time they said they understood and accommodated all of our requests and then some. Unlike some builders that just pass the job along to subcontractors, they were on the job site everyday to supervise and ensure everything was going to plan. Initially Jeff was leading our project but had to go in for major surgery and turned the lead over to Tony about half way through, the transition was seamless; Tony picked up and kept everything going on time and within budget. Tony and Jeff gave us multiple ideas on how to save money and some design guidance which we included in the house. They are honest, ethical and dependable, overall two great guys who's skills compliment each other allowing them to create a great finished product. Another thing that was great is we would see something that we did not like or wanted to change and the next day we would show up and it was done. We could not be happier with our new home and have Tony and Jeff to thank for that.....if you have never built a home before it can be a very stressful time especially if you had a very bad experience. We finally got to the point where we were able to let go and put it in their hands with no worries. One other things we would like to mention is they go beyond code where they see fit. I asked why at one point you could make more money if you just went with code and their response was yes we want to make money but we care about the finished product.....if it were my house this is the way I would want it. Not sure what more you could ask for, we feel very fortunate and grateful that Tony and Jeff build our house!

  • Venters construction is only in for the money. Forget customer satisfaction.
Venters tell you that you'll be paying $32.50 per hour. Then tell you that it will take approximately one day to complete. Then give you a contract to sign that says $32.50 per man hour. Then 3 guys show up.
So you start off thinking it's going to take one day will cost 8 hours times $32 or $ 256. Surprise! It does take one day. But it takes 3 guys one day- ooops- that's $800.00! They talk about trucks and about sports and all kinds of stuff while actually charging ALMOST $100.00 per hour!! Wow- that's a lot of money to watch guys stand around and shoot the breeze.
Venters left a pile of debris in the driveway of a rental home from Monday until Wednesday. The neighbors piled their debris on top in the driveway. Landscapers came by and piled their debris on top. Even though Vetners knew there was twice as much debris in the pile because they didn't haul it away in a timely manner- they thought it was perfectly fine to charge me to haul all the additional stuff.
Then they were hired to clear out, clean up and make level a section of property and given a strict dollar amount not to exceed. They did not clear out, clean up and make level anything. Instead they tore out a huge section of overgrowth, destroyed some landscaping in the yard and left a huge mess. Then they wanted more money to finish. I paid then more money to finish but it still is not cleared out, cleaned up and level. Why? They need more money! They can?t believe I thought it would look nice for the amount I paid!
The owner of Venters told me that he knew it would not look the way we discussed because he wasn't using the proper equipment. But of course he didn't tell me this until AFTER he had billed me.
I will never use this company again. They do a bad job then want more and more money to fix it. Stay away.

  • They worked with our schedule. We lived 370 miles away, so we only got to visit the construction site every couple of months. They kept us informed withy phone calls, emails, and pictures. We were very happy with the work our architect had done to design the buildings. However, in several cases Elite Developers were able to make suggestions that improved the overall look and functionality. After five years living in our home, I have not found any problems. This is the fourth house I have had built, and this was by far the best experience I have had with new construction. They were great to work with. I have already recommended them to some friends. If I wanted to build another house I would certainly use Elite Developers. They are outstanding.
