    AARP Medicare Plans
After receiving hundred of dollars in promotional information from AARP to sign up for their MediCare supplemental plan I contacted them to discuss my options. I received an additional material which most likely cost them an addition hundred dollars (if not more).
I finally signed up for a MediCare supplemental plan last week and I must say that the salesman was knowledgable and professional....that is where the professionalism ceased. When discussing payment options I asked if I could pay my premiums annually by credit card, the salesman advised that I would receive a discount if I did, that I would need to contact (lack of) Customer Service after I received my package (additional cost of printing and shipping, but who cares,....a billion here wasted on healthcare costs, a billion there what difference does it make?
I called Customer service this morning and spoke to a rep who to put it nicely was pleasant but not very knoeledgeble in company policies. After waiting on hold for an extended time when she obtained information to answer a simple quetion on paymant options she returned and advised me that they could not obtain paymant by credit card in North Carolina due to State regulations.
I contacted the NC Department of Insurance who advised me that they did not regulate how insurance companies accept payment of premiums.
I called (lack of) customer service back and requested to speak to a supervisor in the hopes that they would be more informed on payment options. MISTAKE!!!!
The supervisor provided the same information! She was taken aback when I advised her tht the NC Dept of Insurance was not aware of any such regulation, that as far as the Department was concerned payment options were the sole discretion of the provided  and NOT regulated.
When confronted with this outright lie she backpeddled rapidly and told me that United Healthcare does not accept credit card payment for some items therefore can not accept them for any due to guess what regulations in NC. (dizzy yet? I sure am.....what regulation?)
In addition the supervisor failed to make any attempt to resolve my issue and seemed not to care if I complained to outside organizations or took my business elsewhere during the next open enrollment perion in October.
One would think that an agency who states they advocate for Seniors as AARP does would train their represenatives to take ownership of customer issues and attempt to resolve the issue or offer additional options,
NOT THE CASE WITH aarp, NEITHER REP ADVISED ME OF AVAILABLE DISCOUNTS!!!! THAT IS SOME GREAT ADVOCATE!!!!!!!!
did not manage a multimillion dollar corporation, only a County Department with a $13 million budget. But it seems to me that it would be cheaper for them to process one payment a year instead of 12, want to have premiums in their pocket for the year, and pay the credit card surcharge once or bank deposit charges 12 times a year, not to mention the accounting charges to process 12 payments instead of once.
Why does every other insurance company accept payment via credit card except this one..... CUSTOMER CONVEINENCE! WHICH IS OBVIOUS A CONCERN OF AARP OR UNITED HEALTHCARE.
To sum up their effency, I just received my mail, in it was my AARP insurance card AND another thick envelope with information on why I should choose AARP for my MediCare supplement. WOW!
I was going to explore swithch my car and life insurance as well as my cell phone to AARP "endorsed companies", however based on my experience with them so far, I will stay with the companies I currently use.

    United Health Care
premium payment was up to the individual insurance company and was NOT regulated in NC.
I called customer service back and requested to speak to a supervisor since the rep I originally spoke to was to be nice clueless. What a mistake!
The supervisor told me that they COULD NOT accept payment via credit cards due to NC regulations. When I advised her that the NC Department of Insurance was not aware of any regulation and that how a company accepted payment was solelt THEIR decision.
Imagine that the "story " immediately changed to since United Healthcare did not accept credit cards foe all their services thay could not accept them for any. (I believe this is called a lie).
The supervisor failed to take possesion of my issue/concern and basically had the ATTITUDE that AARP really did not care if they lost a customer/member and made no effort at all to come to a resolution, just offered me the option to automatically have monthly premiums automatically taken from my checking account.....the option included in the package.
I would also like to note that AARP totes itself as an advocate for seniors yet neither represenative made any mention of discounts available, the salesman sure as heck did.
Thank goodness that my coverage begins in September and the open enrollment period is October and I plan to take advantage of it.

    BLUE CROSS & BLUE SHIELD
This is tough... I dislike ALL health insurance companies, but have to give them an and quot;Aand quot; rating relative to just how bad the others are. The main advantage Blue Cross offered when I chose them years ago was no lifetime cap on coverage. All other companies I looked at had $1 million or $2 million limits on coverage. With the new health care law, I believe most companies will do away with the caps. Beyond that, our rates have been pretty stable (increase some years, other years no), when I call in to their on staff nurses to talk about an ache or pain, they've been somewhat helpful. Overall, reasonably satisfied with their service.

    UNITED HEALTH CARE
I haven't had any problems with them. The only problem we had was having my wife's medication approved but we got that all straightened out. The doctor wasn't giving them what they needed. I plan to continue using them so far.

    Caromont Internal Medicine
It is a group practice and is conveniently located. It is not difficult to get an appointment. The doctors are very competent and they are available 8 hours a day in the office from Monday to Friday.

    CAROMONT IMAGING SERVICES
I called in advance to see what kind of wait they had. They told me that if I came now there would be no wait. When we went over they did have a wait for anything but broken limbs. Broken limbs had a separate office. We immediately got put in a room. The guy looked at it and since it was broke in a couple of places they called the on call orthopedic doctor. It was Sunday night at about 8:00. They sent him the x-ray via e-mail, and he came right in from his house. He had everything fixed and we were out of there in about 2 hours. We are not insured so we ended up with $4,000.00 worth of bills for the emergency and follow-up visits. I was disappointed that they didn't tell me up-front what everything would cost. They keep sending me all different bills. If they would have told me in advance what it would have cost, I would have stabilized it and taken care of it Monday with my family orthopedic office. They provide discounts to the people of Gastonia.

She is excellent. She is also a practicing therapist. She is very knowledgeable and good at her work. She is very concerned about the patients well-fare, and makes sure she can help. She was very supportive with a certain situation with my fiance, and very empathetic.
