"Two craftsmen came on the date promised. They treated our home with respect and did a great, no installation problems job. We discovered on completion that we wanted" to add another complete cabinet. In the past companies have taken this opportunity of an add-on to price gouge. gave us three choices priced each of them out and again did a great install. I knew we were dealing with exceptional people when I noticed that all our handles LINED UP-perfectly! In most showrooms we visited many times they would be off just a little bit but when you looked at them you would really notice it. had attention to detail that was so matter of fact it was amazing. We have always felt that the true character of a company is most apparent after you have paid them and something comes up. We had a small problem with the trim in front of the dishwasher and came out to make sure it was just right in a timely manner and free of charge. I wish other companies had the character, quality of workmanship and attention to detail that does. Yes there are a lot of companies that are cheaper and cut corners. But at the end of the day, every time you walk into your kitchen you see it and know where the mistakes are. Plus those "fronts" are not constructed as well or made of the same high quality materials. We built our home and it will be passed on with pride in excellent condition. The warmth and beauty in our kitchen is thanks to . They really are that good.

"The tile was well-priced and they had some interesting selection, though utlimately we had to source from a few places to get exactly what we wanted. The counter" top we got was of excellent quality and was installed well, cut perfectly and is exactly as they described it. We have had some issues with "service" on the counter top, but that's not really Empire's fault. Where Empire went wrong was with the cabinets. When they were first installed, they were not installed level which caused subsequent problems with backsplash installation (which happnened much later so the problem wasn't immediately evident). The quality of the cabinet boxes seems to be fine, but the veneer they used on the doors is incredibly cheap, and started coming off within 2 years of installation. It is impossible to "repair" as they suggested because of the process used - this is not somethng that can be touched-up. After three years with the cabinets, we are looking at refacing them at a cost of almost what we paid for the cabinets in the first place. When confronted about the problem, at Empire told us that they knew they had problems with a subcontractor at the time they had our cabinets made, but she refused to do anything about the problem and stated at this point it would be impossible to fix it because of the problem matching the color (which I don't believe). I would not order cabinets from Empire ever again. I probably wouldn't even give them my counter or tile business again either, considering the poor customer service.

How to hire any remodeling contractor

Whether your remodeling project is a small one like adding new cabinets, or a large one, a few simple principles will help you hire the best contractor for your needs. A highly rated Austin, Texas cabinet maker explains how.

White and shades of white continue to be popular for cabinetry with a rising trend in gray stains and paints, says Pillow. (Photo courtesy of Moss Building & Design)

A major decision in your kitchen remodel is deciding on your cabinets. One highly rated provider shares four tips for choosing the best cabinets for your home.

Refacing or refinishing cabinets costs considerably less than replacing them, but don't forget these important factors.

staining kitchen cabinets

When faced with the option of replacing or refinishing your cabinets, consider staining them with a gel stain or liquid stain to modernize the look.

Not really.  If the contractor is very careful and you are really lucky he might be able to pull them out and then reinstall them after the new cabinets are installed.  A lot of this will have to do with how well the counters were installed in the first place.  Also, the existing countertops may not line up with the new cabinets exactly in some areas as well as they do now.  The better option is to have the cabinets refaced, leaving the boxes and tops in place.  Unlless you have deteriorating particle board cabinets you should be able to get a carpenter to do this.  If you decide to remove the countertops and install new cabinets factor in new tops and be pleasantly surprised if they can be reinstalled afterall.  Realize you probably won't find a contractor willing to gurantee not damaging the tops.  If you do, dig in and research him well.  He likely doesn't have enough experience.

IF dirty enough to make for a musty odor, then paint won't stick to them properly anyway. Paint is not your solution - you probably need a Deep Cleaning. Try to pin down what types of smell it is - if damp, mildewy; rotten food; or musty fabric - will help guide you to the source maybe. Another thing to do is keep all doors closed for a full day when outside temp is such that furnace and A/C can be turned off - then walk around the house, sniffing - preferably with 2 people - and see if one room is the major contributor. I have played this game, and found all the following as sources of musty smells: 1) linen in a closet without ventilation going slightly mildewy 2) water leak in walls or floors enough to cause mold but not drywall staining or visible water 3) carpets needing cleaning 4) water leak in bath or kitchen leaking under floor, causing mold there which is not pronounced in smell because under the flooring 5) attic mildew/mold from leaks or moisture condensation on insulation/wood 6) moldy plants outside - left in garden/flower bed in fall, so rotted in winter/spring 7) clothes in closets touching outside wall, so in very cold weather acted as insulator and let freezing front come to inside of wall, causing frost and moisture to buildup there from the inside moisture, eventually causing mildew/mold (same process as condensation/ice on inside of windows with curtains over them) 8) failure to clean behind kitchen appliances and under sink, or under washer/dryer/dishwasher at least when repaired or changed out 9) heavy lint accumulation in bathroom fan going mildewy 10) grease trap in kitchen exhaust fan never cleaned 11) washing machine going moldy - run a cycle of towels or such with bleach and Borax 12) the number one cause I have found - clothes stacked in closets or hope chests or such for decades get very musty even if clean and ventilated

As long as the counter is big enough Corian is one of the easier ones to work with. Since it does not have the ground or crushed stone that some of the other material have you can work with normal woodworking tools. A saw with a fine tooth carbide blade and a professional grade router with the proper shaped carbde bit can be used if the edge needs finishing. A belt sander helps on cuts also. The only problem you might have is if you need the joint kits for seaming as I dont think you can buy them.

When Corian first came out I could buy the slabs and fabricate my own tops and then Dupont went to a certified distributor system and would no longer sell to those of us that had been working with it for years. I will admit that they did have reasons for this as not all that were working with the product were doing it right.

We are thrilled with our new kitchen! did the kitchen on time, with no problems and at an exceptionally high quality. Kitchen renovations can be a hassle, especially if you are living in the home while the work is being done. Fancy

Interiors made the entire process as painless as possible. We recommend them without ...More reservation and plan on using them again when we have future work to do.

They were a terrific crew. And, was the consummate professional. he met with us many times, make and returned phone calls promptly, and was always helpful and responsive. Our kitchen is gorgeous, and was instrumental in making it look that way from the start to the finish. He has a great work ethic ...More and is also a craftsman in high own right.

Called me within a day of contact, came out that Saturday am to measure and give us an estimate. The wall cabinets looked exactly like the cabinets we already had in our bathroom. He matched the design and color of wood stain exactly. He is a master craftsman. We highly recommend him.

The sheet rock installation went terribly. After the sheet rock was finally finished I elected to repair the sloppy work myself rather than try to get them to fix it. The bathroom floor tiling was very poorly done and I again decided to repair the poor quality myself. The installation of the cabinets caused damage to the newly finished sheet rock and ...More painting. All of this took from May of 2015 to the end of September. The cabinet work, their main business, I would give them a C- for craftsmanship.

was a pleasure to work with from the start. He was easy to communicate with. He came promptly despite his busy schedule and gave as a very detailed and thorough plan for the vanity that we had in mind. I can not emphasize enough his attention to detail. Prior to leaving the house during his initial assessment he had outlined ...More a rough picture/with measurements of the vanity to ensure that it was how we wanted it. An then prior to accepting the contract he sent a detailed proposal with projected time of installment.
When time came for installation the work looked exactly how we had described and had come in well below the quoted price.
Aside from being very professional is an excellent craftman and we would not hesitant to use him again for any woodwork that we might need in the future.

They had scheduled installation for a day during the week. I took that day off of work and they never showed up. There were some minor defects in the installation and I never called them back on it. Once they did show up, that was fine.
