Hospital Care reviews in Conover

  • I like this hospital because of the quality institutions that it employ. I'm a registered nurse and we have two really good hospitals in our area but in my experience, this hospital has the top great physicians that they employ.

  • This rating is for the Vein and Wound Center, and not Frye Regional itself.
I made an appointment in July 2013 when I realized the pain I was having in my left leg was probably varicose veins.
The first problem is the fact that my treatment took place in three different locations--in the doctor's office across from the hospital. Waiting room is slow. During my first consultation was the first time the Dr. walked out of the room while I was asking a question and the assistance had to give me the information. Them. I had to check into Frye as a patient for my ultrasound, and t go back to the office across from the hospital for a second appointment to get the results. I got brief feedback from the doctor and began working toward vein closure.
My actual treatment took place at the Women's center at the Carolina Surgery and Canter Center, PLLC. The left leg treatment was extremely painful! During the thigh vein closure, I believe the anesthetic did not take affect, as I felt every needle (20 or more of them). It was like a yellow jacket attack. The actual closure also painful. Then, when the doctor turned me over to try to close the vein in the back of my calf, it was even worse! He kept punching into my leg and causing pains that raised me off the table. I hear him say, and quot;Well, we can't do this one,and quot; and he walked out the door. Again, the assistant had to explain to me that my vein was too small to do the procedure. We would skip this part when we did the other leg. I seriously considered not going back for treatment on the right leg since this had been such a painful process, but the treated leg did begin to feel better, so I went back.
The second procedure was quite different. The doctor had a different machine, although the nurse assistant had to help him get the settings right. I received less than half a dozen shots and the whole process was over in less than ten minutes with a minimum of pain. Again, the doctor left the room without comment, leaving the nurse to give me instructions. When I went back for a follow-up, I had phlebitis in this leg, which bothered me for more than a week. It was during this visit that I complained about their poor communication and inability to provide useful information.
I had to go back to Frye and sign in as a patient to have my follow-up ultrasound. I had another session with the doctor and I explained that my legs did feel better. I don't know what the second ultrasound revealed, if anything. It wasn't discussed and I didn't receive a copy of the results.
Four months later, the left leg is again causing pain. Several days ago, I had a session with another doctor at a different facility. He did another ultrasound on the spot in his office. Turns out, the vein in the back of my calf is causing problems, AND it is plenty big enough for closure. I have started the process over again with my new doctor to finally get this issue resolved. He answered every question and didn't leave the room until he was sure I had all the information I wanted. Wish I had gone here first.!
