    Candler Veterinary Clinic
I always feel a little bit challenging to work with and I always feel guilty when I go there. The last time my dog was sick they said they couldn’t see him for a nearly week. So I was irritated that they didn’t have any emergency appointments.

The Vet seemed caring and fairly competent however, the office staff was not helpful nor forthcoming.  We have taken our dog and cat there for three years and have never gotten vaccination reminders.  Last spring when our dog was sick we took her and they also gave her a Rabies shot as they couldn't find her records.   they said they had no record on her but did have one on the cat.  One of the office personnel recommended that it could have happened when AVA and they split.  When I called AVA asking for that record they said all of those records had been purged.  I asked Candler vet to contact our previous vet and let us know what vaccinations they thought there due.  They said they would.  They did not nor have they EVER contacted us about the cats vaccines .  When we tried to adopt another homeless, abandoned dog they told the rescue agency that we had only ever been there once with our animals even though they had the records of the cat showing differently.  When I asked Candler Vet why they had not sent the vaccination reminders they said that maybe the Postman had returned them.  Really?

We have been using YWIP for 8 years.  Two days a week for day care, and 60+ days a year for boarding.  YWIP the most professional, complete, caring place I could ask for to take the same care of our dog as we do.  We have total comfort our dog is happy and cared for when we are traveling.

We've been going to Redwood for over 30 years during which time we've lived in Black Mountain, Broad River, Weaverville and Candler.  Never considered changing vets even though there were many others closer.  We like Dr. Elledge and Dr. Reason very much and appreciate their philosophy on medical treatment for pets.  They do not believe in over-vaccinating so consider the age of the pet and how many times they've been vaccinated before vaccinating again (except for rabies).  They don't sugar-coat things.  If you have a serious problem they explain it, give their recommendations and you make a decision.  They have never suggested doing anything that wasn't absolutely necessary so we know they aren't "in it for the money" as many places seem to be.  The last time we were there was for a distemper-combo shot for one of our cats.  We appreciated that they did not insist on an exam even though she hadn't been seen in two years.  We highly recommend this veterinary practice.

Her name is Dr. Kathy Lack and she has been my vet for 15 years. They are great. They are very nice up there and I know them so well now that I can kind of do whatever I want. They are good. They are not cheap.

All Pets Animal Hospital & Rehabilitation Center
They are comprehensive and they have good doctors. They seem to be the most equip to take care of my dog.  They also offer rehab for the animals so sometimes they are very busy. They take walk in and emegency visits, also. They could handle the customers better.

    Calling All Cats
Kim arrived prompty, she comes to your home with a small van with all the equipment. She only grooms cats, which we especially appreciate. Kim is friendly, efficient, and responds to what you want done. She answers her calls promptly and is professional. We came from another state and had one groomer for years and Kim has done an excellent job of following in her steps! She is highly recommended.

    Smokey Park Veterinary Hospital
We are changing to make Smokey Park our permanent vet for both of our cats.
We knew our cat Rosey needed to have her teeth cleaned but were hesitant to put her under anesthesia. After 2 vets told us she really did need to have it done, we interviewed several vet offices by phone and went to their locations to evaluate. After reading Angie list reviews, we were drawn to Smokey Park because his staff told us the Dr. performs the cleaning himself (rather than handing it off to technicians and just supervising as most other places said they do). Dr. Shelton was very competent and gave us a full understanding of what was involved in the procedure. We were allowed to wait in a room so Rosey could be with us after each step of prep (blood work, pre-anesthesia) so that she was with us right up until they took her to administer anesthesia. No other location was willing to do that, but it is standard at Smokey Park. Unfortunately our kitty needed 5 extractions but she recovered very well and is doing great only 2 days later. The office staff were very kind and compassionate and the office environment is calm and instills confidence. We are grateful to have found Smokey Park through Angies List.

    The Hound Hut
Our dog loves the Hound Hut. We've used them a few times, and she always comes home exhausted and well taken care of. Our first visit she was supposed to get a free bath, since she was there an extended period of time, but she didn't get one. It didn't bother me much, but she definitely needed a bath once we returned home. Would recommend, and would recommend making your reservation early as they seem to have limited space, especially for larger dogs (70+ lbs).

    Smokey Park Veterinary Hospital
New to the area and in need of a good vet. Two neighbors recommended Dr. Shelton at Smokey Park Veterinary Hospital. Our cat is older and his health seems to be declining. Because of this, I didn't want to do anything that was unnecessary, but didn't communicate this to the doctor. He did a thorough exam, but was very gentle with my old boy. We went over a few things that could start to show with his advanced age. Dr. Shelton didn't goad me into having my cat's teeth cleaned, as I thought he would, saying that his teeth, while dirty (he's a cat...he doesn't brush between meals), did not appear to have a buildup of tartar or anything and seemed to be in good shape. He didn't push his prescription food on my, but simply made mention of it in response to my questions. His staff were all warm and friendly. Dr. Shelton was professional, knowledgeable and seemed at home with my cat. Best of all, I got out of there for under $100, when I thought going in that I would be looking at around $200!
