    Auto Tech Specialists charged me $734.38 or $ 400 more than than the average repair shop.  The average repair shop in Billings only charges $337.00.  Even the higher priced dealerships only average $525.00 to to the same work.

  • I have been going to Garvin for several years for a range of services, and it's worth the 55 mile drive from my home to Powell. They are scrupulously honest, thorough in their work, and punctual when I have an appointment.  They assign my car to the same mechanic so he knows my car and what he's seen before.  When they could have sold me a $200 part but the real need was a new clamp, they were honest about it -- and a young man from the parts department crawled under my car and did the work -- at no extra charge.  
    I went the first time after I had taken my car to a dealer in Billings, Montana for a recall notice.  That dealer kept me waiting for almost two hours and had no record of the appointment I made on the phone.  When the recall work was finally done, one of the mechanics tried to persuade me that my serpentine belt was so worn I might not make it home -- and it would cost $147.   I checked this my trusted mechanic in Red Lodge who had serviced the car two weeks before.  He assured me that this is something they check and the belt was not likely to break in teh next 10,000 miles.  The repair required special tools that dealerships have, so he recommended Garvin. When I had the work done there, the repair was $76, and they operated with their customary professionalism.  They gave me the part they took off, and showed me that it could have waited at least a few thousand miles more.  Later when I made an appointment for a new timing belt at the mileage indicated in my manual, they called me back to explain that my specific model has a timing chain and cancelled the appointment for me.  This is their routine honesty.
    When it comes time to purchase another auto, I will certainly start at Garvin.

  • This is the second time I have tried to buy a truck from Lithia. The first time was in 2004. In 2004 I ended up buying a truck from Livingston Dodge Ram. The short story is that I wanted a particular model, color, and accessory package. Lithia was only interested in selling me a truck off their lot. Livingston Dodge found the truck I wanted in Idaho, had it shipped to their dealership, and I completed the purchase. Fast forward to 2011. I decided to buy a new truck. I wanted a specific model, was willing to accept one of two colors with a specific interior color and accessory package, and communicated this to the Lithia salesman in person on numerous occassions. Needless to say, I ended up buying a truck from a dealer out of Colorado who located my truck in Wyoming. Once again, Lithia was only interested in selling me the truck they had in stock. It was not the truck I wanted. The manager called me after I had committed to puchase my new truck and was very aggressive regarding their willingness to get me the same truck. He border on rude by intimating that I had not clearly communicated my purchase criteria to the salesman, which couldn't be further from the truth. My last visit to Lithia regarding a 2012 Ram included a conversation with the salesman in which I said to him, "so I either buy the white Longhorn you have on the lot or buy the sage green from the dealer in Colorado?" His response was, "yes, I guess that's about it." That is the end of my 2011 truck experience, but as an aside we just purchased a new Ram truck two weeks ago. I actually called Lithia and asked if they had or could located the model we were looking to puchase. I was told the chance of finding a brand new 2012 Ram 3500 diesel was zero. We found it in Las Vegas. It is in our garge right now.

  • Took my truck to Rocky Mountain Tire with a nail in the right rear tire. They immediately attended to the flat. This isn't the first time I've had to visit them for this type of repair. I've had the riding mower tires repaired 3 times and an ATV tire repaired several times. Every time they complete the repair quickly and efficiently. The only reason I am giving Rocky Mountain a 'Dand quot; on pricing is because had to have a tire repaired last week in Billings. I picked up a nail at the steel recycler. The tire business I stopped at charged me $15 for the repair. It made me think that $30 for a repair is a little steep. Other than the pricing issue I would highly recommend Rocky Mountain Tire.
