  • We had Ruth as doula when our first child was born and I knew from the start we wanted her with our second.  Thankfully she was still practicing!!  We attended her lamaze classes at Community which was a great refresher and had a couple one on one meetings.  My labor went very fast this time around and she basically was there for the last half hour before baby was born (basically I got to the birth center, got settled into the suite, pushed four times and that was that) but she gave me a heavenly foot massage afterward and helped out with some healing oils for the postpartum recovery period.  She visited us a couple weeks later for a wrap up and some advice on baby sleep.  Ruth is a godsend, amazing pregnancy, labor, delivery and postpartum support.  She is planning a move to Arizona and I can bet a lot of pregnant ladies will be sad to see her go!

  • My husband said either I had to hire a doula or he wasn't going to attend our daughter's birth so I was stuck. I wasn't keen on having a stranger in the room during labor and delivery but our midwife referred us to Ruth. Her calm and motherly demeanor was just perfect for me--I instantly felt comfortable with her. We came to her rather late in my pregnancy but she was helpful beforehand with relaxation exercises and a referral to a great chiropractor. During my labor my husband almost forgot to call her but once she came over she was a great help for working through the contractions. She also consulted with my midwife over the phone and convinced her that even though I had only felt contractions for a couple of hours it was the real deal and she needed to get her b*** out of bed--something my husband had not been able to do. She helped us get nursing underway and visited us and called a few weeks after my daughter was born to make sure things were going well. I went in very sceptical of the whole concept but came out a believer. Doulas do make childbirth much easier especially if you have a dope of a husband like I do. (No, he's great, just a little squeamish) I was committed to having a natural out of hospital birth and I really think Ruth made it possible. She was great for a first time mom as well with her natural calm.
