Kenneth Smith Contractor, 3515 Highland Ave, Merid
He demanded over 40% of the amount he quoted to do the job in advances. After getting the 2nd advance, he walked off the job. He had his employee tell us that he would not be back. He signed a contract that spelled out that we wanted him to mud and tape the cracks between the cement board according to the manufacturer's recommendation. He did not want to do this, and approached each spouse separately.trying to get us to agree it did not have to be done. We asked that he make a waterproof compartment for and electrical outlet which was found directly behind the bathtub. His solution was to tape a plastic bag over the electrical outlet (I have pictures), but he removed it after his employee said it was unsafe. He claimed to be a licensed to do electrical work in Florida, but yet could not, or did not, come up with a better solution. He didn't even have the tools needed. He wanted us to purchase a tile saw for him as another form of advanced payment toward the job. He spent an entire day scraping up the vinyl floor with a straight razor he held with a set of vice grips and we had to replace the straight razor when it broke because he didn't have another one. We even had to purchase a drop cloth for him, which he did not use and got RedGuard on our new bathtub (I have pictures). The saw he brought to do the job would not hold a charge, and we even had to provide a saw. Most importantly, he demanded advances on two different occasions because he said he "had bills to pay", He did not provide any of the supplies/materials. He threatened to walk off the job if he did not receive the second advance because he said he had "bills to pay". Two business days later, he did walk away with that money. We now have a demolished bathroom with 2 and 1/2 walls and now we have to look for a contractor after giving him 40% of the contracted amount. He told us multiple stories of people, who he called by name, who he said owed him money because he said the work was more than his quote. He does not seem to understand that contractors do not get weekly checks like an employees, and that he is responsible for providing the necessary tools needed to do the work.

)He has just the right mix of politeness, friendliness and professionalism; he is punctual and very efficient in his work.  I appreciate that in a person charging by the hour.  He offers good suggestions where needed.  For instance, I thought I wanted a hole drilled in the side of the bookcase and he suggested drilling it in the back.  I did like that idea better, but just didn't know it could be done without pulling the bookcase away from the wall (and it was full of books).

Mr. Kevin Goss met me at Big Lots to pick up furniture for assembly.  He was prompt, very neat in appearance, and followed us to my apartment where he unloaded my things from his van.  He was very efficient in assembling the wardrobe as well as the table and 2 chairs.  He also hung some heavy mirrors and a bulletin board, a large one with a glass door.  He was friendly and pleasant and thoroughly professional.  My sister and brother-in-law were in and out of my apartment during that time, and we were all impressed with how Mr. Goss worked.  He got the work done in a very efficient manner and I believe his rates were reasonable.  Since I am in an apartment now, I don't expect to need anything else done, but I plan to keep his phone number stored in my cell phone in case I need similar work done later.
