We worked with Darryl and Angie on two different projects over the past two years, each costing approximately $5000.  Obviously, we were happy enough with the first to bring them back a second time.  The first project involved cutting out a portion of our kitchen wall to open it up with the living room and placing a counter top on this to create a bar.  They did a fantastic job taking out the wall and integrating the new space.  It opened up an entire section of the house and created a whole new feel to the space.  On the second job, they hung drywall over a large portion of preexisting plaster walls in our living room area and installed new trim on all the windows and doors, as well as crown molding.  Again, the quality of the work was excellent and completely changed the look of the rooms.  The craftsmanship on both projects was great and all of the staff were excellent to work with.  Darryl provided detailed estimates and explains the options and methods he suggests in a manner that's easy to understand.  This was particularly helpful for my wife and I as neither of us are very "handy."  We also never felt misled in any way.  Both of our projects were on budget and on time, with no surprises or difficulties.  The crews were also excellent to work with and we always felt comfortable having them in our home, much of the time when we were gone at work.  We were even on vacation during one project and had no problem leaving a key with the crew to let themselves in and out.  They also go to great lengths to make sure they limit the mess, as much as possible, and clean up at the end of each work day.  Angie does the scheduling, and she is also easy to communicate with and stayed in touch with us throughout the projects completion. On our first project, we had several estimates and their prices were very close to other companies and we went with GA Chott based on their ratings and were glad we did so.  On our second project, we felt no need to obtain other estimates.  We have a few future projects we hope to complete in the coming years and when we decide to undertake them, GA Chott will be our first and only call.

My wife and I own a home that was built in 1898. When we were soliciting bids for a LONG OVERDUE bathroom remodel, I had cast a pretty wide net on Angie's List trying to find a contractor with experience working with old homes, and someone I felt that we could trust. I found that contractor with Dunn Home Improvements.
Josh Dunn and his brother, Mike, began work on our bathroom renovation on a Monday morning. Upon entering the home, they laid down drop cloths and stair savers to keep from tracking in - and out - debris and general construction mess through the house. The demolition took a half day, and everything was carefully removed, and very meticulously cleaned. Color me impressed!
The rest of the project flew by, with Josh and Mike framing in the bathroom, running electric, plumbing, et cetera. The first week ended with leveling compound on the floor, set to cure and level out what was quite possibly the most un-even floor in our old home -- mission accomplished! The second week buttoned up with a beautiful tile job, painting, and installation of cabinets. We finally had a bathroom that we could be proud of. The transformation was complete!
I plan on keeping Josh and Mike on speed-dial for other projects for our home. Throughout the entire engagement, I felt not only informed, but empowered. The attention to detail is second-to-none, and I almost can't wait to start more renovation projects to work with Dunn Home Improvements again.

This bathroom was not original to the 1936 home.  It was added 25 years ago by going into the attic area which made it very small with low ceiling height.  Al re-designed it moving the sink and toilet to a different wall and was able to fix the low ceiling problem by lowering the floor by 4 or 5 inches.  The original floor was elevated by the original contractor 25 years ago because he said the floor could not be evened out.  Al and his crew evened it out and now you can look into the medicine cabinet mirror without having to bend over!
Al and Papa Gary, his co-worker, installed all new fixtures and cabinetry in the bathroom and even added a closet!  They took off the old bathroom door and installed a pocket door which added more space to the bathroom and the adjoining master bedroom.
I had some very old tiles that I had been wanting to use in some way and over the years anyone who did work in the house said they couldn't be used because of the age, old cement on the back of them, etc.  Al, said no problem they could be used.  They are now on the wall in  the bathroom.  The tile work is just beautiful.  The shower was completely redone with new fixtures and tile from floor to ceiling and it too is beautiful.
The ceiling fan in the bedroom was right over the bed. Al took it down, patched it up and then installed a ceiling fixture in the middle of the room instead of over the bed.  All the patch work was perfect.
In re-doing the second floor bathroom Al found that our plumbing was not properly vented which required breaking into the first floor bathroom wall, fixing the plumbing and then patching and painting the bathroom.  The patching was perfect. The painting was a bit difficult because it had a glaze on it and Al's painter matched it perfectly.
There was so much that Al, Papa Gary and the others did that I know I am leaving some things out..  But the attention to detail was the best I have seen.  They were professional, courteous, and kind.  They cleaned up  after themselves never leaving anything a mess and always went above and beyond what was asked of them.   Al always followed up with me and communicated everything that was being done and why.
I waited and saved a long time to get this bathroom fixed and I so easily could have been disappointed but this project turned out better than I could have imagined all due to the quality and price of the work and to the character of Al and his crew.

Very courteous on the phone and in person.  Very reliable and on time.  Identified the problems and fixed one light right away.  Ceiling fan light had to be sent out for repairs.  Explained everything really well.

Bill is terrific! He was prompt for his appointment with us. He gave us a detailed bid that was right on target. He did a great job, even having to crawl up into the dusty old attic. He cleaned up after himself and he is personable and honest. What more could you ask for? I even hesitate to put this on the List because I'm afraid that too many others will want him and then we won't be able to easily get him the next time we need him. Just a really good crafts person and person.
