Everything went extremely well. The results were better than we expected. Bill is a perfectionist and takes great pride in doing the best job possible. We've referred Remodeling Plus to several of our friends and they loved his work as well.

Grizealy Home Remodeling is fantastic. Brooks was very professional and thorough in his work, which resulted in a very good outcome. The backsplash is beautiful, the window frames look fantastic, and so do the baseboards. If you want someone who is honest and performs quality work, hire Grizealy Home Remodeling. You won't be sorry.

I scheduled an estimate to replace 2 windows and repair some damage to a wall.  Jim came out. He went over everything with me and gave me a ballpark estimate of about $1400, and that they would qualify for a tax deduction for energy use improvements to our home.  I thanked him and asked him to send me the full estimate so I could go over it with my husband and we could compare to the other estimates we were getting.

He accidentally left a sample at my house, and the day after he retrieved it, I received an email that simply said
"As we discussed replacing the two windows with Pella encompass series vinyl windows and tearing off the siding around the area where you have a leak, ensuring proper flashing and reinstallation of siding plus any new parts that we need to supply would be a grand total of 1443."

I expected to receive a detailed proposal similar to the ones I received from the other three businesses, but that never arrived.
The other companies from whom we received estimates all pointed out that our siding had not been installed properly.  They pointed out missing parts & recommended that all of the siding on the back of the house be removed, all of the walls checked for damage due to the improper installation that exposed the walls to potential water damage.  Jim had said nothing about that. I asked two of the other companies about whether installing energy-efficient windows would be tax deductible, and they said that the government was no longer doing that particular deduction.  I still haven't found out which is the right answer.

Then about 2 weeks later, a woman with the company called to ask if the work had been done yet. I told her no, and that I was still waiting for the estimate.  She told me that she would make sure I received it, but also that their window manufacturer had some special discounts going on, and asked if Jim could come back to go over them with me and my husband.  I said sure, and scheduled the visit for a time when my husband would be home.

But Jim wasn't there to show us new options or talk about the special discounts.  He was there assuming that my husband's presence would mean we would make a decision on the spot.  When I asked about the 'special discounts' mentioned to me on the phone, he made an oddly condescending comment like "sure, you discounts, don't you?" and said they could drop the price to $1400.

When we asked what it would cost to also add some insulation to the walls before the siding was replaced, he said that was 'included'.  Then I asked if he could give us the prices for three different styles of window for one of the windows being replaced, and he again made a vague promise that 'any window you want is included'.  But we had no details of what that $1400 actually did include. No scope of work detailed, no materials detailed, nothing.

Then he wanted to know if we had 'decided'.  We told him no, certainly not tonight.  We told him we needed to see his full estimate in order to compare. He wanted to know if it was just price we were comparing... I told him no, we wanted to be able to compare 'apples to apples' by taking a look at what each company suggested, and their prices for their work and materials.  When he left, we again asked for him to send us the complete, detailed estimate.  We never received one.  Right after he left, my husband said it seemed like he just came by to meet with 'the man of the house', expecting him to make an on-the-spot decision that 'the little woman' could not.

A few weeks later, I again received a call from a woman at the company.  At that point, my husband and I were annoyed,  I told her we had requested a written estimate multiple times, without receiving one, and that it appeared that the second visit to 'go over special discounts' was actually an attempt to meet with the 'man of the house'.  I told her not to bother having an estimate sent because after that experience we certainly were not going to use their company.

I was really surprised by the experience because I expected much better from a company rated "A" on Angie's list.

They repaired numerous boards, brackets, and hinges on my wooden fence. While I supplied the wood which was part of the deal, they did supply new brackets that I needed replaced which was crucial to getting my fence properly repaired. I have no complaints

John quickly called back and showed up promptly to provide an estimate. At the time, we wanted a quote on two projects but he let us know that we could do one of them ourselves and explained how to go about it. Great honesty and helped save us money! John quoted a range on the door project, and his employee showed up promptly at 7AM the next Monday to begin. The worker was professional, provided updates as we went, and finished the job as estimated. (It was a little higher due to material costs.) My only complaint would be that the door doesn't latch completely now and the jam isn't completely flush with the wall, but my house is old so I suspect I need a new door anyway and I can use caulk around the door. Would hire again due to honesty, professionalism and punctuality.

While I was at work, without my knowledge or permission, the contractor, Mike, & his helper, removed & replaced the north & south wall as well as the west wall, charging me for this additional work.  Not only was that work not contracted or approved, the north wall was solid & had never leaked.  I tried calling him immediately - he would not answer his phone.   When I confronted him about this the following day, he yelled at me so loudly, the neighbors called me to comment on what a jerk he was.  He said I did not know anything about construction & that the wall was gone, "just get over it".  He kept trying to convince me that the north wall was bad, too, but how could I know when he had sneakily hauled it away before I came home from work, along with all of the perfectly good paneling that covered it?  Although I was ready to fire him, I let him continue, because the wall  was gone, there  was nothing I could do about it now & to find another contractor at this point would be even more expensive, or so I thought.   I now had to purchase new paneling for the entire knee wall of the porch at my own additional expense.  The job, which was supposed to take seven days to finish took two months.  The first rainstorm after the work was complete resulted in leaking water around the windows, damaging the new wood trim & cedar paneling I had just purchased.  I called him & he came over, assuring me it was a caulk issue he could fix as soon as it warmed up.  Later in the week he & his helper spent two more days chiseling a rim around the entire porch to give it more of a pitch for the water to run off, then sloppily re-wrapping it with metal of a different color white than the rest.  Then he tried to sand the damaged paneling & wood trim inside with a sander that damaged the walls even more.  Discovering shortly thereafter that the windows still leaked, I called him again.  At this point, he said he was throwing in the towel.  He would give me part of my money back & I should go find some one else to fix the problem.  When asked, he said it was the windows that were insufficient; he had tried to get by with a cheaper version even after I stressed my concern about inferior windows.  I pressed him for a full refund, but he refused.  Now I am stuck three months later with a worse problem than I started with.  And of course, he will not answer my calls.  No other contractor wants to follow up with any guarantees unless they do the entire job over.  They do not trust what lies beneath the sloppy siding & metal installation & the layers upon layers of caulk.  The windows are installed crookedly, the metal was installed with staples rather than nails & is bowed in spots around the windows & roofing.  The windows are now damaged because screws were placed inappropriately & they are so full of caulk.  The storm door also leaks & the handle is installed in an unnatural position.  This man does not know what he is doing & did not hesitate to leave a huge problem on my door step while he went into hiding.  I have called him daily for the remainder of my money back - he has only posted me a letter saying he has nothing further to discuss with me.  As if he is now the victim here?  What?  How did that happen?  Everything he did to my porch has to be replaced & redone.  Not to mention the stress & the time I have had to miss from work.  It's January & my sunroom is still under tarps.  He is not justified in keeping any of my money.  He did nothing here except escalate my initial problem, financially & emotionally.

I went to Angies List to get 3 paint contracts to give an estimate for my paint job.  All 3 estimates were compitive, but I chose Dettmann-Clause because of their presentation and professionalism.  An added bonus was, they wanted to replace the old wood on the back porch instead of just scrapping and repainting the old wood, like the other contractors for the same price.  They were able to match the siding color from a sample I gave them--perfect!  The workers showed up on schedule and the work was completed over two days--as promised.  The fix on the back porch was very well done and all the painted areas were neat and well done.  I will use them again!
