This review is ONLY for wood stove installation. They may be fine at other jobs. The price ended up being about $600 over quote. The installer was not knowledgeable about chimney pipe required clearance (a most important safety consideration). They left the chimney pipe resting against wooden beams (2" clearance is required). When challenged, the installer said only 1/2" clearance was required. When I showed him the manufacturer's own literature, the installer said it must be a recent change. The pamphlet was at least 3 to 4 years old. Finally, the installer said they MIGHT be able to give me 1/2" clearance. But they couldn't do anything that day. I phoned and told them not to come back. We had already paid the bill. Most of it was for equipment, which was fine and we didn't mind paying for that. We wrote the rest off to experience. I did not want them to come back. | |They were very concerned about the appearance of the stovepipe (black pipe) descending from ceiling to stove and made sure that looked just right. However, ceiling to roof was a disaster. | |Admittedly, our old house was a challenge with its aged, off-center beams, but they should have refused the job rather than making a poor attempt and calling it good enough. We got the job done, but it was not finished by Controlled Aire.
