Drywall reviews in Lake Saint Louis

    Premium Painting
I would usually walk away from this bad experience & move forward, but I am writing this review to prevent others from going through what I just did for the last 3 months. Upon meeting Zack, I liked him and he pointed out all the things I also saw as problematic with the paint issues in my new house. I saw all their 5 star reviews and thought I would give them a shot. It seemed like Zack and I we were on the same page for the expected quality and needed prep work on all the walls. So they were hired to paint & remove popcorn ceilings. We did have to extend the paint/ceiling time line to about 4 weeks because they couldn't scrape the popcorn ceilings and needed to put up new drywall. They started on that with Zack still being involved and us on the same page on quality and perfect, smooth ceilings. Based on working with Zack, I then added the reno of 2 bathrooms since they said the bathrooms would then finish about the same time as the rest of the house (in 2.5-3 weeks or about 10/18). This project addition brought his partner, Tony, into the picture. Tonys idea of quality was significantly different than what was promised by Zack, and the job never recovered. The paint/ceiling job (started 9/4) and the 2 bathrooms (started 9/25) still were not completed when Tony said he quit, turned in the key, and walked off the job on 12/11. The contract was to pay 1/3 upfront, 1/3 middle, and 1/3 at the end. They pressured me for more money throughout, even though the timeline kept extending. At the end, I was left with only 7% outstanding instead of 33%. So, when they AGAIN asked me for money and I said I was not going to pay anymore until they were finished, they quit and left all their large construction trash in my garage. It was the bad experience you hear about: usually only 1-2 guys on site each day; different guys coming day-to-day so no one knew the progress of anything; washing paint/mud tools in my now trashed white sink. Tony installed the tile in my shower off center, which he eventually fixed. He also incorrectly installed the shower pan and then had to re-install it. There are mud/paint bumps on ceilings, the ceiling corners look bad, they kept tools and paint cans all over my island (which they had to refinish since it was ruined), tape lines showing through and/or cracks on almost all the seams of drywall in the ceilings in the living room and master bathroom, employees would complain aloud in a room alone with me about how little they make. They used and ruined my broom, dustpan, and ladder (which they actually took when they walked off the job). And, the list goes on and on. The whole story would be a book, but I have uploaded some photos on Google since you cannot put them here (hopefully they will stay there). They over promise & under deliver. Then they make you feel bad asking them to do what the initially promised. Well, at least that is what my experience with Tony. I asked to get Zack back out to the house when things started going south and they both denied that request multiple times. I could defend myself, but there's no point. If this review is not removed, they will likely respond saying I am crazy with too high of expectations. And that is ok. Believe me, they will tell you I was the biggest problem on the job. :) But after over 2 months, the bathrooms were still not done & after 3 months, there are still spots that need attention in the initial paint job (like the original blue paint still showing in corners of the bookshelf they were to paint white and original yellow paint on the edge of white trim that they swear had two coats). In conclusion: If you want some paint on walls or a bathroom done & you do not see well, or do not have expectations, this will be fine for you. But if you care about the details & want expensive brand new things (like ceilings) to look new or prefer no holes in the tile around your toilet, call someone else.

    Nations Drywall Repair
Mr. Nations provided a prompt estimate. We believe it was fair - the hourly average for labor and materials was about what we expected. Another company we called didn't bother to respond after the initial visit so we didn't have another estimate to compare it to. We had several large areas of existing walls/seams that needed re-taping, mudding and sanding due to settling issues and shoddy work by the previous owners (they painted over wallpaper patches they couldn't remove!). Nations did really good work with each area. After filling and taping, they skim-coated/mudded, sanded, and re-blew the popcorn ceilings as needed. We have an old house and the walls they worked on look brand new. They were careful to hang plastic and put down floor coverings to protect all the other surfaces of our home. They are very busy and we had a tight timeline we needed to follow for a remodeling project. It took some follow up on our part to nail down a firm date they could do the work, but they juggled their schedule to help us out. I would definetely use this company again.

    Terbrock Remodeling & Construction
A new all was erected with 2 electrical outlets and 2 existing outlets were fixed. 6 can lights were installed as well.  Drywall, insulation and taping were next. Matt and Brad spent 4+ hours sanding the walls and ceiling before priming.  I was very impressed with their attention to detail.  After painting, the concrete floor was prepped for stain.  The first application did not take as expected, so Tom the foreman returned the next day with an accent color to fill in some gaps.  This was done free of charge and much appreciated. The floor required 2 coats of sealer, but turned out very nice in the end.  On top of that, Matt, who is an electrician informed us that our sump pump was not on its own breaker, so we added that service for a reasonable fee.  Now, I must finished the rest of the space, but we are pleased with the work.

    Update:
I realized about a week after the floor was sealed that the ceiling access panel for a shut valve hadn't been installed.  I called Tom and he sent Matt over a couple of days later to install it.  Now the room is completely done.

I highly recommend Terbrock Remodeling and Construction.  Great job!

    J-PRO Construction LLC
Late last summer, we decided to simply widen our driveway.  The end result will be a completely remodeled house, top to bottom, inside and out!  A huge portion of this work included finishing our unfinished basement in order to increase the living space within our house.  J-Pro Construction to include Mike, Jim, Jim and their subcontractors were the go-to people for us, continue to be and will always be!
When searching for the right team to make our dream a reality, we read Google Reviews, looked at websites, and joined Angie's List.  We knew that the investment would be significant and set out to obtain at least three proposals from different contractors.  We were not looking for the cheapest bid but rather a team that fit our project and provide us the best value.  Our first proposal was to come from a family-friend recommended contractor.  Needless to say, we were not warm and fuzzy after our meeting and never received any followup contact or even a proposal.  The next two contractors that we contacted were two that were highly rated from Angie's List.  Both teams were very professional during their on-site visit and provided well thought out proposals.  But, one definitely rose above the rest:  J-Pro Construction!  During his on-site visit, Mike was professional, friendly, complete (he didn't miss a single detail of the many we threw at him), and was just an all-around good guy.  When the proposal was complete, Mike hand delivered it one evening and gave us the opportunity to digest it privately.  We will readily admit, there was a bit of sticker-shock at first glance as there is with nearly any construction project.  BUT, with the completeness of J-Pro's proposal, accounting for every penny of the proposal in detail, it was obvious that this was the right team for us!
Once the project started and was underway, we had the opportunity to then meet the two Jim's of J-Pro.  Just like Mike, Jim and Jim were knowledgeable, professional and just plain good guys!  At least one of the J-Pro team members was at our house daily throughout the construction process whether working directly or coordinating with subcontractors.  Given their experience and abilities, J-Pro has a network of top-notch subcontractors to handle trades such as drywall, electrical, painting, flooring, plumbing, etc.  The quality of the work by all involved was top notch and our end product looks beautiful, is very functional, and loved by the entire family.  We also can't compliment J-Pro enough on their communication.  We were kept as informed as could be throughout the entire process on a daily basis.  If J-Pro said that they would see us at 7 AM the next morning, they were waiting outside at 6:50 AM.  If J-Pro said that the flooring was going in on the 10th, it went in on the 10th.  If they said, plumbing would be completed tomorrow, it was completed tomorrow.  Also, J-Pro was open to, accepting of, and always tried to incorporate, where possible, any changes, revisions, or additions that we asked for throughout the process.  I must also comment on their willingness and ability to handle someone like me.  By nature and design, I am an extremely detail-oriented person.  Some may say that I can even be excessively picky.  There are other words that have been used to characterize me, but I am not sure that Angie's List would allow those here.  Throughout it all, regardless of any questions or comments that I may have had, they handled them as professionals without complaining or whining as I have gotten from other contractors in the past.  Any questions and/or comments were always addressed.  Regarding the cost of the project, the final/total cost of the project was exactly as J-Pro had proposed.  The price proposed was the price paid.  There were no hidden fees, no surprise costs, and no exceeded "budget allowances" that are provided by many other contractors.
While the business end of our dealings with J-Pro has been taken care of in this review, we would like to mention the personal aspect of the project.  A basement finish in a moderately sized home with a large family can definitely be stressful .  BUT, the J-Pro crew made the process as easy as possibly could be.  I truly believe that I would be locked in a padded cell somewhere if it weren't for the J-Pro crew performing the work for us.  The entire J-Pro team are no longer vendors of ours, they are friends of ours.  The entire family enjoyed having the J-Pro team around the house.  And the dogs we fear, are suffering from separation anxiety without having Jim and Jim around to spoil them rotten even more than they already were/are.
We cannot recommend J-Pro enough, they are the real deal, the cat's meow, the go-to guys.  We were and are so happy that we have had J-Pro perform other work around the house and are having them screen in our covered patio.  Regardless of the work to be performed, if we need anything in the future (which there are projects we are already thinking about for next year), Mike, Jim and Jim will absolutely be the first people we call.

    The St. Louis Plastering Company
Never communicated well.  Would stop messaging via AL and would keep asking for my phone number but never call.  After weeks of trying to "get on the schedule" he sends me an email with an opening for the following day.  I rearrange the garage so he has easy access to complete the work and he doesn't show.  I can show examples in AL where he never responded to email.  Would claim not to get emails sent to gmail account.
DO NOT USE.  I DO NOT RECOMMEND.

    Tight Lines Painting
Josh was on time and very helpful. He made great use of his time and paid really close attention to detail. While young, he seemed very experienced and hard working. He and the other painter he brought were very professional and exceeded our expectations. We will definitely call him for our next project!

    Striking Renovations
Our project was completed to a standard that exceeded our expectations. When John first came out to see our house he listened carefully to our needs and vision for our home. He also made suggestions and gave us information we needed about the realities of such a large project. Soon he had prepared drawings for us that provided a more concrete presentation of his understanding of our wishes and a common focus for more idea development. We were initially very impressed that John seemed to understand our taste and lifestyle and he developed a plan that was not only functional and beautiful but highly personal. The major part of our project was a complete kitchen renovation, including the removal of a wall to open the kitchen into the dining room, the removal of a peninsula, and expansion of a window. Additionally, we replaced all of the ceilings and floors on the main level of the house. John arranged for an interior designer to meet with us and later take us shopping to select cabinets, tile, lighting, flooring, and countertop. We were told that the project would take 6-8 weeks but in fact all of the work described above was completed in exactly 30 days! At that point we had to wait a week for the quartz countertop to be installed. Under a separate contract, Striking Renovations then installed new doors on the main level and completely renovated our basement. We were extremely pleased with the quality of the work and the professionalism of all the workers in our home. All were very knowledgeable, conscientious and hard-working. Equally important to us, however, was that we were very comfortable having these people in,our home. Every day there were two to four men working on our job. Friends had told us to expect the workmen to "disappear" for a week or more while they managed multiple jobs. That was not our experience. Additionally, these men were friendly, cheerful, polite and respectful of us and our property. We completely trusted them, whether we were home or not. One aspect we would like to see this energetic young company develop would be the area of communication. We did feel that sometimes we waited too long for returned phone calls and that we were not always on the same page with verbal requests or questions. We eventually started clarifying important information by email-that seemed to eliminate further problems. But overall, we are VERY SATISFIED with the work, the people and the results we experienced with STRIKING RENOVATIONS. We recommend them to friends and neighbors and will be calling them again for future projects.

    CCR LLC Remodeling & Woodworking
I would like a refund. We made an appt. for 3p,m. on a Friday.  He didn't show, because he called my house at 2:30 and
    when I didn't answer, He assumed I wouldn't be there at 3 o'clock and didn't come out.   I was there at 3p.m.
    but he wasn't.
We made a new appt. for a day and time of his choosing --March 13 at 8:30a.m.    He called me on March 11
to say he needs to re-make the appt. for a day when he doesn't have so much scheduled.   Also, he told me since
drywall repairs take more than one trip, there would be a $200 trip charge for each visit after the initial one.
I don't want to deal with this contractor.    Thank you.

    Handyman Connection of Chesterfield
It went fine!  The work was great and I haven’t had any issues with it since.  I’d use them again and recommend them to friends and family.  The fixture in the kitchen was giving him a little bit of trouble, and he even went above and beyond by caulking around where he did some adjustments.
