Countertop Installation reviews in Independence

    HOME DEPOT
We first consulted with a Home Depot representative closer to us. During that meeting, he called Doug Willis at the Blue Springs store with questions. We had no challeges with this because he was new to that department and still learning. After several more weeks fo thinking about options, we decided to try Home Depot again. this time we made the appointment directly with Doug in the Blue Springs store. He was very knowledgeable and provide sufficient guidance that we were able to make a decision and start the process. The installer came for a precision measurement (templating) prior to the custom counter top being manufactured. On installation day, they arrived when expected, did a good job with no damage to existing tiled back splash or cabinets. We are very pleased with the entire process and professionalism by Home Depot and the installer.

    Vision Destiny Designs
We were very disappointed with the quality of this companies work. They did a very poor job, their subcontracted painter spilled paint on multiple areas of the house costing us hundreds of dollars in repairs and a door was hung backwards. The work was half completed, they then called and said they didn't want to complete the job. We had already given them half the deposit and they did not return it. I tried writing this same review on their web page via Facebook, however, it was deleted and I was blocked from it. So, I guess that's why there are four 5 star reviews and why I was fooled.

    Handyman Connection of Johnson County
All the work went extremely well. Brent, the foreman, was very responsive, professional and great to work with. Larry, the construction worker, was also very responsive, professional and a delight to have in our home. Larry concentrated on doing a great job, with as little mess as possible. Everyday he cleaned up the areas after his day's work. Both, Brent and Larry, became part of our family, which was especially important as we watch our two grandsons every day. We are very glad we found them on Angie's List. We will most definitely keeping their phone numbers for future use on projects.

    Dean the Granite Guy
Excellent. Two unexpected issues came up, but Dean had a solution for each of these issues and they were fixed without delaying the work. Very satisfied with the way the project was handled. Staff were professional and friendly, spent time to answer questions we had.

    Jim Saner's Home Remodeling LLC
Great. The 2 men who did the work were very competent craftsmen. My son in law and I did the tear out. The Saner men, put in a new ceiling w/ lighting, did drywall, hung cabinets, hooked up plumbing, reinstalled appliances, installed new dishwasher and microwave, put in countertop with back splash and laid new flooring. They did excellent work. Started when they said they would and worked on our kitchen until it was done. Cleaned up as they went, did not add any surprise charges or change their agreed on price. Mr. Saner gave us good design advice and saved us from some bad design choices on our part. The only negative: they were shorted some cabinet parts and it took 2 weeks to get them shipped to Independence. We are completely satisfied and so happy with the results.

    Dean the Granite Guy
Dean shows up absolutely on time. Once he was going to be 10 minutes late and called us. Everything Dean does is strictly professional in every way and we easily put our trust in him. He took us through all the possibilities making our selections easy which should not be taken lightly. The installers were always there promptly and every detail we asked about was addressed promptly.
The only surprise was how quickly they were ready to do the work! Our kitchen looks brand new and couldn't be prettier. Thanks Dean!

    Dean the Granite Guy
It went well. We did have a couple of small issues but I got a hold of Dean and they were out that afternoon with the corrected parts. It took about a full day to complete the job. They cleaned up after themselves.

    BRACO STONE
We short-listed four fabricators from information we found on Angies List and the Internet.  Braco Stones bid was consistent with the other bids but provided more detail so that we knew exactly what we would get for our money.  The other firms provided much less detail so it wasnt clear if we would be responsible for additional costs.  We also liked the fact that as a multi-generational family owned business we would be dealing with a stable workforce with significant experience.  We visited four granite suppliers in Lenexa as well as two large fabricators who also sold in-stock granite slabs.  Based on our consideration of literally hundreds of slabs, we selected Crema Bordeaux which was available at most of the suppliers.  We purchased our slabs from Unique Stone Concepts which had two slabs from the same bin that met our expectations.  When the slabs were delivered to Braco, we were able to view a projection of the countertop cutouts on the actual slabs and provide input on what portions of the slabs to be used for our island countertop.
They did an excellent job of cutting and edging the granite as well as laminating the edges of the island countertop to make it appear twice as thick.  They used laser measurement equipment to make a computer-aided-design template to be used by state-of-the-art computerized fabricating equipment.  We found it odd that they did not mention this fairly new equipment on their web site.  Counter demolition and installation went well with only one problem. We apparently lost the top bracket for our corner-cabinet Lazy-Susan during the demolition process which they promptly fixed.
Although they are a granite fabrication business, they subcontract plumbing, tile and electrical work to provide a full range of services for their clients.  The plumbing work was subcontracted to Todd Akins ((816) 215-7137] who with more than 35 years of experience did an excellent job. Tile demolition and installation was performed by Fred Rivera of Del Mar Tile [(913) 634-7739].  Fred not only did a great job, he also provided input on whether or not to use regular or enhancer sealant.  Fred also gave us the ideal to use angled power strips from the Task Lighting Corporation (www.tasklighting.com) to avoid interrupting our accent tiles with light switches and power outlets.  This prompted the need for a licensed electrician which Braco Stone recommended.  Mark DeVolder of Quality Mark Construction [(913) 563-6747] re-wired the kitchen to place the wires for the switches and outlets just under the cabinets and installed temporary outlets while we waited for the power strips to be delivered.  Mark also installed the wallboard for the tile work which Fred then completed just before the power strips arrived.  One electrical problem we encountered was that the power strips were not deep enough to accommodate a slim designed GFCI outlet to comply with the electric code for protected outlets used in a kitchen.  Mark had to install the GFCI outlets in the junction boxes under the floor used to re-wire the kitchen.  Overall, the project was well managed with very little down time.  We are very pleased with the work provided by Braco Stone and their subcontractors and would strongly recommend them for any future work.
