AAll Weather DecksWe hired All Weather Decks ("AWD") to construct a complete makeover from an old wood deck. We worked with Brett to create a seasonal room designed with multiple large windows to overlook the lake area, along with an open composite (Deckorators-Voyage) deck with a staircase that led down to the open patio. The footing and deck posts were covered with a stone veneer. The construction went well. We experienced a few issues such as clean-up and a damaged door, but they were timely addressed. We cannot say enough about Armando and the beautiful work of his finish crew. He was very professional, diligent and eager to please. He always cleaned up his work area each day. ASuperior Contractors of KCFantastic. The job was time-sensitive because extremely cold temperatures were threatening to freeze the basement pipes again. Chris got materials and immediately sent me a photo of the receipt from Home Depot. Then he did a extremely neat and professional job of fabricating and installing a custom insulated panel over the basement door. No more drafts! No more freezing pipes! Excellent communication. AWalcutt's Outstanding WindowsWe interviewed several companies and Walcutt’s Outstanding Windows (WOW) stood out right away. Dewey walked through the house and began measuring each window right away. He quickly began making suggestions about replacement of windows from different sizes to options that would make a difference in the bottom line. Our project was a very large project and Dewey created a very nice invoice that included every detail that he would be completing. It was broke out for pricing of each line item. That helped us understand where the money was being spent. It also allowed us to have discussion about where we could cut costs and make adjustments to prioritize what was most important. Dewey is very professional that he makes sure to keep the work zone neat and clean. He respects the homeowner and values their opinion during the process. He is spot on with the time it will take him to complete the project. He is the WOW in Walcutt’s Outstanding Windows! Dewey set each door precisely and we were amazed at the quality of his work through and through! As he discovered issues that were unforeseen he was clear about what needed to be done to protect the homeowners investment. He is knowledgeable about home construction and is an expert in his profession. They completed the interior trim and I was having a difficult time conveying what I wanted. Dewey was so calm and brought me an example of what it would look like two different ways. It helped me make an informed decision. He completed the interior special trim to perfection! ARemodel MastersWe would highly recommend Remodel Masters. They just finished two separate, but simultaneous projects for us this summer. They did a bathroom remodel that involved complete demo, a new double-sink vanity cabinet and countertop, LED lighted medicine cabinet mirrors, converting a tub/shower into an expanded shower with complete tile surround and elaborate waterproofing interior, new toilet, new tile flooring and modifications to trim in doorways. Our other project was a basement remodel. They demolished the previous flooring and kitchen layout and installed all new luxury vinyl tile throughout, installed new kitchen cabinets and backsplash, installed a new toilet and single sink vanity and countertop, installed new handrails and balisters, installed and relocated lighting, and multiple other little projects in the space. Overall we were very impressed with how Randy, the owner, was very transparent with the scope and cost of the project(s) and documented all changes in a very timely manner. He was very receptive to any last minute changes/suggestions and was able to accommodate most of our originally unscoped requests. Randy came by the house almost every day to check on the progress and was quick to correct or address any issues that arose. The craftsmen involved in our project were always respectful, professional, and skilled. They cleaned up the project sites every day and were consistently here every day making obvious progress.- Jennifer L.

AAce Handyman Services (formerly Handyman Matters)Ace Handyman scheduled the work in a reasonable amount of time. Work was performed as promised in one day. No new hardware was required. The serviceman was polite, and checked to make sure work was to satisfaction. When an issue was discovered during the same day, they were able to come out and correct it right away. ADiamond Doors LLCMike stopped by on the afternoon that I called him. He told me the garage door was sticking because of a recent paint job and said all I needed to do was clean the paint off of the seal around the door. He checked the condition of the tracks and springs and said they looked fine. Didn't charge a dime for the advice. I will definitely use him in the future.- Bernie H.

CThe company did not provide a quote. I made it clear to the salesperson up front I was looking for competitive bids (to try to save time on the bidding process) on Provia exterior doors and was more or less told by the salesperson that they don't sell to price-conscious clientele and they don't repair doors because they don't want the headaches. By the reviews, I'm sure they are a great company, but with such an attitude and not even willing to bid the work (been a couple of weeks now), that is not likely a company I would want to work with anyway as it appears to me they don't want customers that might be demanding or actually have expectations on price or quality, and high price does not always mean good quality in my experience with the trades. The salesperson was nice and spent a fair amount of time explaining why they don't need my business. I've never been in that kind of position, but more power to them and I wish them well. I'd give an F for the smug and unhelpful company attitude who doesn't need my business and an A for at least coming and explaining why they don't need my business which is why I'm giving them at least a C for half-hearted effort.

CWe did a moderate sized bathroom remodel. Initially, things went well. We ordered it before the holidays and were not surprised when it was not scheduled to be done until after the holidays. The contractors doing the actual work - Robert and Josh - were excellent. Very respectful, professional and prompt, working the hours they told us they would be here and keeping us updated on where they were at each step of the process. The product was excellent, we are pleased with the final look, although we still do not have the correct finish on the shower door and glass. We were NOT happy with the communication from the salesperson and site supervisor. The salesperson was to get back to us and the additional contractor we hired for painting and flooring in the MBR, which he failed to do. Initially, Bordner told us they would order the flooring for the master bedroom when they ordered the bathroom flooring, but this did not get done and neither we nor the contractor were notified until into the end of the 2nd week of the remodel. This caused a delay in our flooring being laid by > 1 week because it was a special order product. In addition, the initial order for the shower glass finish was incorrect when sent to the glass company. This caused further delays and we were without a functioning shower in the master bath for > 3 weeks.

AI would highly recommend Walcutt's Outstanding Windows. Dewey and his son are very professional, honest and do outstanding work. I decided to use WOW after interviewing a few other window companies. His bid for doing full frame replacement was not that much more than a competitor's bid using the same window but using inserts. The house is 30 years old and I was concerned that I had some wood rot under 1 or 2 windows so wanted full frame replacement windows, was not comfortable using window inserts. Dewey was very honest and told me upfront that if there was significant wood rot there could be an additional charge. Fortunately only one window had wood rot and the additional charge was reasonable. Dewey did a great job installing the windows, including the interior and exterior trim. I needed to leave a few hours before WOW finished working on day 1 and was very comfortable leaving them alone in my house. When I returned they had secured the house and garage and even let my dog out of his pen as instructed. After much research I decided to use the ProVia Endure white vinyl windows. White was not want I initially wanted but I like the ProVia window but their interior color selection is very limited. It has only been a week since the windows were installed but the reduction in the outside noise in less and I love being able to easily open the windows.

AWe just finished our second kitchen renovation completed by Brackmann and could not be happier with the entire experience. They had performed a very modest cosmetic update to our previous home’s kitchen and now a complete rebuild of our current kitchen, which was more than twice as large. It’s difficult to find great contractors, so I wanted to leave a detailed review of somebody we’ve had an n=2 experience with. Everyone from the bidding process (Jeff), project management (Jason), and execution (Jason, Bobby, Zach, Jamie, Caleb) was cognizant that they were becoming part of your home. They were onsite on time, worked constantly through the day, took modest and well-deserved breaks, locked up the house, and were friendly and communicative when interacting with my family. They cleaned up and tidied daily, kept tools and materials organized in small locations, and were communicative about upcoming events that may cause temporary disruption to your schedule or home. Project management was also really impressive; Jason had to remember so many things for this job, in addition to other jobs for different clients. He had a daily timeline ready before the project began, which they adhered to nearly perfectly. He was prompt with emails, text messages, and addressed all questions that we had about process or the work being performed. I don’t think there was anything during the process that gave them much pause; decisions were made carefully but rather quickly. If we had questions about the workplan or work in progress, Jason answered those questions willingly and would go “above and beyond” to ensure that we understood what they were doing and the approach they were using. Brackmann has a great working relationship with their subs (for custom cabinets and countertops) and they do multiple projects together. During the process, we did change our mind on a couple of minor items or had small additions to scope; Brackmann was able to handle all of our requests smoothly without affecting the timeline drastically. Price was extremely competitive, especially considering the quality of materials, subcontractors, service, attention to detail, and experience. They are very transparent in the bidding process with respect to overhead and profit, down to the cent. Jason kept an up-to-date change order to capture the unexpected costs and our in-process additions, so we knew exactly where we were on price and how our asks affected the bottom line. A kitchen is the most complex room in a home in terms of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and finishes. To tackle this room in a month, from demo to punchlist, is really tough to do. Brackmann has talented personnel, great overall communication, and solid subcontractor relationships. We recommend them highly.
