    Farmington Animal Hospital
One Saturday morning, I noticed my dog was not moving well and, most worrying for a lab, not eating. I called Farmington Animal Hospital and scheduled a same-day appointment for that afternoon. My dog has been there in the past for boarding and a shot or two, but this was our first visit with a veterinarian.
Dr. Monnig took a thorough history. She gave a comprehensive exam and took the dog to the back to watch her walk and run. Dr. Monnig returned and discussed possible diagnoses with me specifically addressing hip dysplasia which is a common problem in Labs. She decided it was most likely a back sprain and prescribed rest along with an NSAID. She also advised returning for a follow-up if the situation had not improved.
It appears that Dr. Monnig was correct as my dog was back to her crazy normal self with one dose of the pain medicine.
Dr. Monnig and staff were prompt, professional, and caring. They did follow the usual vet practice of handing me a bottle of pills without really asking and letting me discover the price on the way out. The pills were about $30 which seems a little high. In many cases, it is possible to get medicine for your pet at a local pharmacy for much less, but there are a few veterinary drugs that most pharmacies do not stock. I do not know if this medicine is one of those, but the apparent industry standard practice of automatically dispensing drugs is less than consumer friendly.
The price for the exam and visit was in-line with what I would expect.
We have also boarded our dog at Farmington Animal Hospital many times over the past year or so. I think it says a lot that she is always happy to go in the door and the staff recognize her and seem to genuinely like her. We have never had a problem getting a spot for boarding even on short notice over a holiday weekend. The price is very reasonable--it is one third the price of our previous vet (although that was located in a city and had a VERY nice facility). One minor annoyance is that the clinic is closed on Sundays so you cannot pickup your pet then. A Saturday night stay for the people becomes a Saturday/Sunday stay for the dog. Other places I have used in the past had a 5-6 PM pickup hour for Sunday boarding, although I understand there can be many good reasons for not opening on Sunday at all.
Overall, my experiences at Farmington Animal Hospital have been excellent. I intend to continue taking my dog there indefinitely.

I have actually taken my dog to Chrystal's 3 or 4 times now and everytime I call and make an appointment the same day of service (so I'm not sure how they are about keeping appointments made in advance). Every time I have called they have been busy but they still manage to fit my dog into their schedule. Their hours are a little strange, closed Sundays and Mondays and I believe they are also closed every other weekend if I understood the lady correctly on the phone. My dog loves going to Chrystal's. He's always a little hesitant when we get out of the car but once he realizes where we are his tail starts wagging like crazy. They do not accept credit cards and I am not sure about checks but they do, of course, accept cash. Your contact information is actually stored on handwritten cards instead of on a computer and they will call you when the services you have requested are completed. I think the old fashioned way of record keeping is better because even though we only go in about once a month all I have to do is say Roscoe over the phone and they know exactly who I'm talking about.
