Counseling & Mental Health reviews in Columbia

My experience was great. I don't have a lot of experience with psychologists or psychiatrists but I can say that I enjoyed the appointment. She has a warm, pleasant, easy-going manner and I was not rushed.  We had a nice conversation regarding history, current struggles, and what solutions have and have not worked.
. She explained various treatment options and layers of treatment in detail. We discussed them and mutually agreed upon a course of treatment.
I left the office feeling very good about the overall experience and future direction. It was very different than what I had ever imagined it would be in telling someone my problems and struggles.  She is someone that I would refer my children, my family, and my closest friends to in a heartbeat.

I've seen several psychiatrists in Columbia and Dr. Nittler is, by far, the best. She really asks questions and cares. She isn't just a prescription pad and a DSM, which has been my experience in the past. She's always encouraging and shows empathy and is approachable. She doesn't do counseling, but my visits always feel a little like a mini-counseling session too. She isn't pretentious and is really down to earth.
She doesn't turn in your insurance claim for you, but this is becoming more commonplace. My insurance was a pain to deal with and I still haven't received reimbursement. So that's the only drawback, so you have to pay her and then get reimbursed. She is well worth it, though.

My mother saw Dr. Dos Santos for more than 10 years. She liked him well enough, although when I met him I thought he should have retired long ago. He looked terribly sick and seemed unable to care about anybody.
When she arrived for her (last) appointment with him this month, she found the door locked and a general letter taped to the door saying he had retired!!! There was a phone number to call in case she wanted to get her medical records. That was all. No letter sent to all his former patients letting them know what had happened, no courtesy phone call to tell her not to come for her appointment. They didn't even bother to record a decent message on his phone. When you call his number, you hear, "You have reached the office of Dr. Enrique Dos Santos. The office is now closed." And they hang up on you!!! What a way to treat your former mental health patients, some of whom might have abandonment issues. What happened to this doctor? Is he in jail? Did he die? These are the only two good excuses I can think of for treating your patients this way.

Dr. Reddy has a fairly thick accent and I don't hear very well so communication was somewhat of an issue. He showed concern for my situation and suggested alternative ways to help such as relaxation tools along with medication. My issue is mainly anxiety which often presents it's self as depression. After seeking medical help for the past 30 years, Dr Reddy was the first of many doctors and therapists who really diagnosed the root of my issue. My only real complaint and it's not really a complaint, more of just an issue is that Dr. Reddy seemed a bit reluctant to change my medication when one was pooping out (which they all do at some point.) From a staff perspective, his receptionist / office manager was always nice to me but, I've heard her be quite rude with people on the phone & patients in the office. Overall, I would say if you want someone who really knows his meds & is compassionate toward you, he's a good bet.

I have no concern. He was extremely attentive. The follow-up was excellent. The result was good. If I had to see someone in this specialty again, then it would be him. The staff was all very attentive and very thorough. Everything was prompt and it was a very good experience.

I found Dr. Dos Santos to be very professional and efficient.   He is reasonable and is easy to talk to and work with.  In just a few months of working with him I was doing much better and was able to continue on my own without prescriptions.  If I ever need assistance again, Dr. Dos Santos will be my first choice of health care providers.

She is absolutely great. I have had some horrible psychiatrists and started to lose trust in the system. It takes almost a year to get in to see her, but it's totally worth it. She spends time with you and really tries to get the treatment that works best for you. She answers calls after hours. Heck, she called me at 10 PM once when I was a total mess. I couldn't be more thankful.
Like someone else said, she does run behind, but it is because she spends time with all of her patients. I will take that :)

Overall, after about a year and a half of seeing Dr. Reddy, I made very little if any progress. He seemed to be satisfied with the status quot and was not willing to adjust or explore different medications even though I had been using the same medication for more than 5 years. We never spent more than 15 minutes together and often less time than that.  I stopped seeing him after talking with my primary care doc about my experience and found that he was shocked by my experience. She told me that all depression medications run their course and how important it is to rotate medications. She also after spending a lot of time with me determined that the real cause of my depression was anxiety. After trying several combinations of medication & conversation we finally hit on a solution that has totally changed my life. Dr. Reddy may be good for people with serious mental disorders but I felt like I was not important to him.

I found Dr Breidenstein to be a wonderful doctor. He is patient and kind and personable. He was actually interested in me as a person and hearing what I had to say, we actually would have full conversations about my needs.. A lot of Psychiatrists I've seen are only focused on the medical aspect of prescribing drugs. With little or no interest in your feelings and experiences. Dr B treated me like a person with value and was interested in all I had to say in evaluating my treatment.
He's a busy and conscientious Dr, giving his patients his time as they needed so would sometimes run a bit late. It was worth the wait.
His staff was remarkably friendly. The woman I dealt with most was always upbeat and engaging.

I've been to Women's Wellness Center several times and seen quite a few of the providers. I see Dr Wisdom for my primary care. She always takes the time to listen to everything I have to say and addresses all of my concerns. I'm also seeing Tori Summers who is a health coach. She's helping me get more on track with my nutrition and fitness. She's awesome as well!! Unbelievably, I see a third specialty there - Dr McCoy. He's the "bladder specialist". So he and Yvonne have been working with me to help with incontinence issues (you know how sometimes you worry about sneezing when your bladder is full?). Anyway, after the kids I've had some issues there and am way too young to have to worry about it, so they're getting me fixed up. I'm on my way to being more healthy and feeling great and confident. It's an awesome place to go. Great doctors and staff and spa environment to boot!
