Cabinet Refacing reviews in Clayton

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • I was very pleased with both the result, and with the company itself.
The cabinets look great. They took the fronts of the cabinets/drawers for about 2 weeks, and painted them off site. They returned for one day, and painted all the surfaces that could not be removed. The cabinets are very smooth, including doors that had glass. I don't think you could tell that they were spray painted. Somehow, they taped off everything so that they were able to paint all kinds of surfaces (including custom wood paneling on our refrigerator) without any overspray.
I had one other bid for a similar amount from another highly ranked angie's list company, but Voss promised to be faster doing the in-house painting, so I went with them.
This company was also very professional to work with. For example, we were leaving on an airplane trip on the day they did the in-house painting. They seemed happy to show up at 6:30 am, when we were departing, so I made plans to meet them, but emphasized that we would need to leave at 6:30 am. Mr. Voss showed up outside our house at 6:10pm, and waited patiently outside until 6:25am when we handed things off to him and left. I think that punctuality was reflective of the overall experience. Overall, they were punctual, professional, and detail oriented and I would use them again.

  • It worked out fine, after a confusing start. I had bought the coupon which was $200 for $450 of work, but when I went to see Richie at his workshop he said it would cost $4,000 to refinish my cabinets. Yikes. I told him we just needed them touched up and he agreed to come see them. Then he saw that they were not in very bad shape, and agreed to do the work for $225 more than I had paid for the coupon. The work itself was great -- the paint matches the original paint perfectly, and the island looks a lot better than
it did. He did all the work himself. He had to cancel the first work appointment due to the flu, and the second appointment he was supposed to come first thing in the morning, but got there around 11:15 due to a leaking hot water heater at his workshop. He called once to say he was on the way to the workshop to get materials, and then would be coming here. Then he called again to explain about the hot water heater. Still it took quite a while longer for him to come. I think he needs more help, but does very good work.

  • Stephan's Contracting LLC was prompt and courteous over this multiple day handyman assignment.  He left no debris for us to clean up, and all of his work is of the highest quality.  Our kitchen cabinets which had ten years of water drips look brand new.  Our front door, which has been a problem for years in terms of closing and operating, works like a charm inside and out (on a prior occasion he sanded and refinished the door so that it looks wonderful).  The front door lock was an intermittent operation clunker until Stephan's Contracting LLC removed it and hand repaired it.  It now works easily without having to put your shoulder to the door to get the lock to function.  The weather stripping works excellently as a replacement for the old brass system.
He promptly and efficiently recaulked two bathroom tubs at the floor and wall levels, removing the old caulk (which had separated and had some early black mold).  It is the prettiest caulking job I have ever seen.  Stephan and I worked together to move the router and modem, and Stephan was able to give me sound advice and measurements for the additional cables required to make the move and for the modifications to the electrical plugs and extension devices.  The repair of the baseboard was expertly and timely performed.  He accomplished the frame repair and rehanging of the picture, including drilling new holes and installing screw hangers in the plaster wall.  We are completely satisfied with this contractor.
We have used him for more than twenty years as our handyman.  He is pleasant, clean and a fun guy.  He is very hard working and efficient.

  • Very pleased with the outcome.  Kevin came out with sample doors and photos of previous jobs and offered a lot of helpful suggestions  that we might not have thought about on our own; professional, but not pushy.  The work was done in a timely fashion and they were really good about doing everything to our specifications.  They cleaned up every day after work so we could still use the kitchen.

  • Work was completed on time (8 weeks), on budget and with superb, custom, craftsman quality. This is the 4th and largest project for which I have hired Birkenmeier & Sons, Inc. I have high standards and the quality of the finish exceeded my expectations. Al was on the job site every day to supervise the subs. He communicates constantly (issues, progress updates, timing) and is very professional. Al pursues perfection, forcing the subs to redo some work that I probably would have allowed.

The best review that I can possibly give is that I am certain that I will hire Birkenmeier again.

  • Jeff Gibbs is a wonder and John who does the painting and staining is great.  This was one of the best experiences, bar none, that I have ever had.  Everyone I met in the company was very pleasant and easy to work with.  Their work ethic is exceptional!  From the moment we met and started talking about the job, I had complete confidence that we could work together and in the end, I would have what I hoped for.  Because of other work that was being done in the house,  Jeff had to do some working around other schedules and things took much longer than expected (through no fault of Jeff.)  So he worked with our schedule and was always very acommodating about it.  He checked with me at every step and made helpful suggestions when i was unsure how to procede. I just can't say enough positive things about Jeff and all the people at Custom Furniture Works.  I LOVE my kitchen and  hope to work with them on some other projects soon.

  • In the last experience we had with Custom Furniture Works, they upholstered all of our living room furniture in one type of fabric. This fabric proved to be very heavy, but they continued with a dedication to not only finish the work, but to return our furniture  in a timely fashion with an excellence in workmanship that I have not seen in years.  Most companies today do not exhibit the personal attention to a project, no matter how large or small, like Custom Furniture Works does.
Their pick-up and delivery service is impeccable led by Monty Gibbs and his men. The men actually take off their shoes when they arrive whether they are picking up furniture or delivering furntiure. Both brothers are unbelievabley thoughtful and business-like.
Jeff Gibbs is known for his customer service approach trying, always, to understand what the customer's needs are and making certain that these requirements are met by their staff of very experienced employees.
Jeff and Monty have been very kind to us ,and we are very pleased with the work they have completed. It is always a pleasure to work with both Jeff and Monty.
I might also add that if you want to find a beautiful clock, large or small, new or antique, you should definitely consider Custom Furniture Works.  Jeff has a vast knowledge of antique clocks, the proper working of the mechanism as well as the overall care of clocks. He is a tremendous resource in the St. Louis clock world and also knows where to have dials repainted with reputable dealers companies.
All in all, Jeff and Monty have created a company of hard-working people ready to assist the customer and able to return a product that will be an heirloom for years to come.
I must add that Dawn, their assistant, is very friendly, always kind and returns phone calls with a quick turn around time. No matter what the situation, she is ready to help schedule things to best accomodate everyone including the customer. Dawn is pleasant
    throughout the whole process.
Above all, Jeff and Monty are honest, hard-working men who take pride in their company, and its name, as well as their work.
