Home Energy Audit reviews in Chesterfield

I noticed my air conditioner(s) were having trouble keeping the house cool. So I had my HVAC service contractor inspect my systems to make sure all were working well. And they were. Since my home was built in 1988.  I was told I should check my insulation.

I had 3 companies inspect my attic for possible issues with the insulation. All 3 came to the same conclusion. That I didn't have enough insulation for todays standards. And there were a few areas, where the insulation was not installed correctly.

I felt Marc Bluestone (owner of Smart House), was the most thorough. And was very upfront and honest of expectations and realities my home presented. His bid was also very competitive, so I went with Smart House.

The installers were on time & very professional. They gave me updates during the two days it took for the job.

I was so impressed, I cancelled my present HVAC maintenance contractor. And signed up for Smart House to be my HVAC contractor.

Richard spent about 1 hour here and looked
at our Villa area answered our question. He never used any equipment or
gauges. We needed our airflow and heating ducks check for the proper amount of Airflow
and why our thermoset did does work properly? He answered our questions.
Richard recommended Welch Heating and cooling company.

I did not use Welch but I am happy with the person who done the work. Our problem was solved.

I purchased a '$55 for Attic Energy Evaluation +Thermal Camera Scan'  from Angie's List.  Someone came for the service. He was on time and very professional. It was a pleasure to have the service and knowing where the leakages/problems are. However, the estimates to fix them was very high, way over our heads.  We are still thinking and have not gotten them fixed yet.

We had a hearth room with a fireplace that had little insulation, making
the room a magnet for cold air.  The first thing they did was to
insulate above, around and beneath the fireplace.  We could tell the
difference in the comfort level of the room by that evening!  The attic
insulation had been kicked around by previous workers over the years
(adding cabling, lighting rods, etc).  As a result it was pretty thin in
some places.  They sprayed in additional insulation to R-49 and sealed
the duct work in the attic.  Certainly feels more comfortable around our
home!  Glad I had this service completed!

Joe came out to my house as scheduled and already knew some information about my situation due to the survey I filled out.  He told me what he was going to do and why.  He showed me pictures of the attic of problem areas as well as thermal images.  He addressed the problem with my master bedroom and explained the issue completely.  He answered all of my questions.   It didn't seem like he was trying to sell me anything.  Unfortunately their prices for the recommended items were 40% higher than the other bid I got.  So I did not end up using them.  I am happy and learned quite a bit.  A+ on everything but prices.

.Overall things went very well. SmartHouse was quick to come to our house to perform the audit, emailed us the audit report within 3 days, and was able to start the work within a week.
I'm not sure how competitive their prices were compared to others as we didn't compare.
The $99.00 Angies List Audit was a great value, but I understand that that was so they could then get to offer us the recommendations and hopefully get the work to do.
Overall I was very satisfied with their work and would recommend them. If cost/value is a big issue you might want to do some comparision shopping.

Home Green Home came out and performed an energy scan of our house and identifed several opportunites for improvement for which they provided a written estimate of the cost for each item.  They also wanted to understand any particular comfort issues that we had noticed that we wanted them to look at.  I liked their approach of the audit and findings such that it was fact based without being a hardsell of their services.  We elected to have them perform some insulation related work to address the problems.  Everyone that came to our house was very knowledgeable, friendly and prompt.

The initial price was $99 but I upgraded their service for a more detailed report and that was done for an additional $100.  I thought that was very reasonable for a thorough report.  My overall experience with them was excellent.

The inspection was originally scheduled for Jan. 17 but I was contacted by the company, asking for a postponement, which I granted.  Inspection was finally performed Feb. 6.

I have no problem with the inspection or the recommendations, but I thought the estimates to be pretty high:  $1,956.  I contacted another company (also a highly-rated Angie's List company, and one whom I had used before).  Their employee came out the VERY NEXT DAY, right on time.  His recommendations agreed exactly with those of Home Green Home, but here's the kicker:  His estimate for the EXACT SAME WORK was $703.  So, even WITH the $500 discount from the "Big Deal," the work from Home Green Home would cost me over twice as much!

Needless to say, I will be doing business with the other company.

So -- be wary of the "Big Deal."

The initial visit went well and the technician did a thorough job of checking out the system.  However, he was not sure why the unit was not adequately cooling the house so he suggested that the owner, Mr. Hauser, come out and do an air conditioning audit to determine if the unit was big enough for the house.  This sounded like a good idea since the house had been added onto prior to my purchasing it.  After many calls to the company and being told each time that I would hear back from Mr. Hauser, no one ever came out and no one called me about it.  While the initial visit went well, this lack of follow up was why I gave them D's in Responsiveness and Professionalism.
