AMidwest Concrete & Const IncTom and his crew were incredible. Professional, personable, and went above and beyond when we tweaked some things WHILE they were doing the job. We also added a small side job (parking area) and they were able to get the materials and complete it all ahead of schedule. HIGHLY recommend them!- Edward L.

ADemolitionJeff Sawyer started the project days earlier than expected . Very happy with the time spent having materials delivered and quality workmanship..His company has done a fantastic job and made our place look so much better plus has improved our road beyond what we expected. We have previously spent hundreds of dollars trying to make it driveable. He knew exactly what to do to fix the run off and solve our water issues. He is coming back to do landscaping for us. His years of experience are very evident. He is very easy to work with and very professional! I will call Mr. Sawyer anytime I need anything done. He takes his work very personally.- Judy T.

AMidwest Concrete & Const IncWe initially contacted Midwest for a bid to replace our asphalt driveway and concrete porch/sidewalk. Their response was quick and while walking over the area we discussed some plans we had that went beyond just concrete work. Tom offered some suggestions that made sense and let us know that he is capable of handling carpentry/construction type work. Our project ended up consisting of a new driveway with apron/turn-around, new stamped front porch, 3-tiered stone walls on the downhill corner of the house, new patio for basement walkout and stairs/walkway connecting front porch with the patio. We also had them rehab our 20 year old deck. After determining that the structure was sound they added/upgraded much of the hardware, replaced some footings, replaced the stairs and replaced all the deck boards and top rail. In addition, the front porch has a two-story high roof extension over it that had to be supported during the replacement of the concrete. Tom came up with the idea of replacing the four existing posts with just two posts to open up the front entrance area. The project was completed last June with some finishing touches done this fall. We have been pleased with the quality of the work and Tom’s attention to detail. He offered many good ideas/suggestions during the course of the work. Even though the project seemed to grow as we progressed, they still met our deadlines. Our new stamped patio at our basement walkout is our new favorite place to hang out. . The crews were professional and the quality of the work is excellent and all of our deadlines were met. We would use them again on future projects.- Teresa R.

AMidwest Concrete & Const IncTom Silber was the first of five contractors that I contacted to return my call. He was also the first to come by the job site for an interview and job description. Their bid was prompt and reasonable. Tom was very prompt to return my calls when I had a question. Once the contract was signed and the weather cleared up, his son, Chris, came by and had the job done in two working days. I was impressed with his work ethic, quality, and the pride he took in his work. I would definitely hire them again.- Bob & Jerry S.

AEverything ExcavationIt was three jobs total the first covered clearing 6 acres of heavily wooded acreage and it went great. Then I hired for cutting my driveway and then cleaning and leveling a pad on the side of a hills for a lower shop. All three went great. I also just hired for another job to clear a field for a garage. Great work!- Demetri C.

ADoss & Harper Stone Co.We have had companies bring chat for our driveway in the past and their service has been anywhere from acceptable to awful. The driver of the dump truck for Doss & Harper was very courteous, knowledgeable, respectful of our property and helpful. He was very careful to deposit the rock exactly where it was needed in layers that would properly fill in the potholes and provide a level and smooth surface that would last through many rains and vehicle trips up and down the driveway. No one has ever done as fine a job as Doss & Harper. I would highly recommend them to anyone that needs gravel or stone work.- Laura S.

ADunn Home Improvements LLC1) The patio took a couple of days to complete and is a beautiful new addition to my yard. 2) The basement took several weeks to complete. Lots of plastic was hung to control the dust. Josh asked for my input and opinions as section by section was completed. When the basement was complete it looked fantastic! It looked so good that it made my main level seem drab. 3) The bathrooms on the main level took about a couple of weeks to complete. Lots of beautiful tile work. Both of my bathrooms are beautiful. 4) The main level took about a month to complete. He would work on one room at a time so he didn?t disrupt the whole house. Now my entire home is brand new and looks fantastic. Josh Dunn was always punctual. He was professionally dressed and had all of the tools needed for the jobs that he performed. His work is meticulous and he is very exacting in all that he did. I've just spoken with Josh and he will be installing new electrical outlets inside of my garage and the outside soon.- Jo C.

AUltimate LandscapeIt went extremely well. At first I wasn't sure of the design he came up with for the flower bed, but, I went with it and was extremely impressed on how it came out. I can definitely see now that he knows exactly what he is talking about. I wish I had more yard for him to sculpt!- Ronald B.

BKelley & Sons Mini QuarryThe business does not keep regular hours and you just have to keep leaving voicemails or catch someone at the office when they're open. Once we got past that, they were very friendly and even discounted delivery for our second load of rocks.- Joshua B.

FDan Brinkmann Trucking LLCThis company falsely represents itself in all areas of its business operations - 1) through the eCommerce arena (i.e. their company website at www.brinkmanntrucking.com), 2) through its marketing materials (i.e. business cards), and 3) by the direct verbal communication by both the owner & co-owner. This company misrepresented to me that they "offer complete road grading & road repair services". They don't. Their site states they service clients "throughout Warren County" which they don't. Their website claims they were founded with "honesty". They are not. They stated they could & would repair my driveway, both verbally on the phone, as well as in person when the owner personally visited my home to give me an estimate of the services. They did not. When I originally spoke with the co-owner, Susie, on 9/11, she stated that it was just her husband that did the work & they only had old equipment that broke down sometimes. Their website states that they have"operators" in the plural sense & that they have a staff of people in the office "One of our friendly and knowledgeable associates will be happy to answer any questions..." Misrepresentation. When you call their numbers, they do not have a voicemail to let you know that you are even calling a business. This is because the numbers are just the husband & wife's cell numbers. I called back twice just because I wasn't sure if I had dialed the right number the first time due to this. Unprofessional The wife confirmed on the phone that they would & could do the job I needed which was a simple driveway repair, the addition of 1 inch minus gravel and some light grading of my cul de sac. I had to push them to make a firm appointment to come to my home as they did not seem to know how to schedule the work. Rather, she wanted me to just be secure in the fact that they do the work "when they get to it". (exact quote). What???? The husband (owner) came out a few days later, walked the driveway with me & he too confirmed and said he would do the job. I will note that he raised a red flag in my mind when he claimed he didn't know where the local quarry was. Huh? You're a company that hauls rock and services all of Warren County and you don't know where the local quarry is located????? After never hearing back from them since the 11th, on 9/30 I called and left a voicemail as to the status of when they were going to do the work since it had been over 2 weeks since the owner had visited my home and I never heard back from them. I received a voicemail back from the wife saying quote: "We are going to pass on the work. It's not anything that we are going to be able to do or take care of for you." And that was it! Can you believe it? I called back that evening to get more information & they disconnected the call without talking to me. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and called back immediately and I left a voicemail simply asking that they return my call that night. I never heard back from either of them. This is the most bizarre and unprofessional behavior from a supposed seasoned service company that I have ever experienced & I have hired many over the years since I have rehabbedseveral homes & hiring contractors, plumbers, electricians, etc. I don't feel this is the way to conduct business by falsely saying you have a staff of associates, you have operators, you do driveway repair and grading in my area, etc. and in reality you are a husband and wife that uses your personal cell phones to conduct business with no business voicemail, a website that says you have a staff and operators, and you divulge that you have old equipment that breaks down sometimes. And this is the way you operate? Overall their business practices are not consistent with their advertising & they simply lack any business ethics in general. From not seeming to know how to make an appointment with a client, not returning calls in a timely manner, not having a business voicemail set up, not being familiar with local quarries in the area they supposedly service, false advertising thru eCommerce, marketing and verbally that they do certain work, have a staff of associates & operators (when they don't). I feel that other consumers should be aware of this company's business practices so they can steer clear & not have their time wasted as mine was. They are deceitful & this is clearly misrepresentation on their part. They don't have "associates" & they don't have "operators'. It's just the husband & wife with a bunch of old, antiquated, broken down equipment. Just as the wife divulged to me over the phone. She also said that her husband was getting old, couldn't move as fast as he used to & was in poor health. I can't believe that they are still in business and more importantly that they are accredited by the BBB. Really? I would hope that the BBB reconsider the accreditation of this business and possibly remove it entirely. It would be in ALL consumer's best interest that the BBB post this complaint in its entirety as it gives a 100% accurate portrayal of this company as personally experienced by a consumer and not the false and misleading portrayal that this company's marketing materials and website give to an unsuspecting consumer that is looking for such services so no other consumers will be misled as I was by the wife and husband verbally committing to the job and then not following through, contradicting themselves, and overall, just doing themselves and the consumer a huge disservice. Poor health, old equipment, lack of staff, operators are more indicators that this company is not a good choice to call if any consumer is looking for this type of service. Call someone reputable, honest and that has integrity. Don't call Dan Brinkmann Trucking.- Anne J.

AI hired Quality Waterproofing to extend a buried downspout/sump pump drain that was poorly placed by a competitor 4 years ago. The competitor placed the pop up drain 10 feet from the house in a low spot, which created a swamp. Quality did an A+ job fixing the problem. They were timely, professional and UNDER budget. Very honest and high quality work. They even did some extra sodding and dirt work at no charge.

DS&D lawn services originally bid me $10,500 for a retaining wall. After the work was started, they ended up eventually billing me $15,288.91, which was almost $5,000 over (50% over) his initial bid. In addition to the retaining wall, I hired Scott to also dig out a water line, place some drain tile, plant grass at my house, and dig some trampoline holes. This was an additional charge of $4,828.26. The total we were billed for EVERYTHING was $20,617.17. The first complaint I have is the water line job. Not only did he place the line incorrectly/not deep enough, but he lied to me about it and changed his story multiple times once most of the 200 feet was already buried and he was caught. When I confronted Scott about the water line not being deep enough, he did not own up to the mistake. He first tried to say that it was no big deal because he could just put insulating wrap around it and it would be fine. He then tried to claim that the shallow water line was MY FAULT. He claimed that I told him to grade the property and shave a foot off the depth of my soil after the water line was placed. This claim is false, but even if it was true, HE SHOULD HAVE REFUSED to grade the property WITHOUT TALKING TO ME ABOUT THE RISKS because it would have made the water line too shallow. There is no way I would have consented to a grading job if I knew it was going to cause my water line to freeze. The second complaint I will mention is the rental equipment. Scott rented equipment for weeks at a time, and many days that equipment just sat on our property unused. He later complained about the equipment rental costs and that I needed to give more money to cover it. This is one main reason why I had to pay significantly over the initial bid. The third complaint I have has to do with S&D’s professionalism at times. Scott raised his voice at me multiple times over phone, and even hung up on my wife one day when she asked him to keep one of his appointments. He would commit to working on certain dates/times, would not show up, and would not communicate as to why he didn’t show. Lastly, I have concerns over the competence in this company if the scope of the work is beyond lawn and tree work. As mentioned above, he didn't put in the water line to code, but he also wasn't backfilling the wall correctly either. In both cases I had to have another contractor tell me how to fix the problem. I ended up paying a total of $18,669.60 for S&D's jobs, and not a single one of the projects that I paid them for was ever completed. After almost four months of waiting, I had to just pay other people to finish everything. It was an incredible loss of time and money for me.

FDesigner quit...Used day labor workers who had no design sense for landscaping, nor did they have the correct design plan with them. Mixed 2 different colors of mulch together and literally placed some of the plants on top of the mulch, not in the soil!

AThis is the second year that I have used Lake Brothers. I have them every two weeks for mowing and weedeating. I have a large yard, lots of rocks, TONS of weedeating. Takes me about 5 or 6 hours to get it done. They are in and out in the blink of an eye and the work is always perfect ! I have also used them in the past for removing some small trees from the property. They show up when they say they will. Always punctual. They gave me a free estimate last year when they started for me and I actually got another estimate this year. My price went down $5 per week. I was absolutely sure that it was going to be up ! I hope to be able to use them when the season is over to remove some shrubbery.
