    BETTER GUYS E & I
Otis Woods, owner of this business who is a felon, was hired to be a handyman, meaning fix simple things here and there. THIS MAN STOLE CREDIT CARD INFORMATION, RAN UP FRAUDULENT CHARGES, AND LEFT WITHOUT FIXING A THING!! He convinced my elderly boss that he was a contractor and could fix ANYTHING, which is far from the truth. I had to hire REAL PROFESSIONAL CONTRACTORS TO COME IN AND FIX THE DAMAGE HE LEFT BEHIND. This man currently has a bench warrant for his arrest, as he stole tools from our home. Google him and you can find his mug shots (plural) along with reasons for his arrests. DO NOT ALLOW THIS MAN INTO YOUR HOME!!

    Rightway Construction
I don't write negative reviews, especially if it can impact a man's livelihood, but RIGHTWAY CONSTRUCTION - owned by CHRIS WHITE and DON WHITE - has left me with no option! They were recommended to me by my realtor and I trusted them to do significant upgrades to my new home. I started with signing some small contracts with them and was happy with the work, but as I trusted Chris with more work, the quality went down drastically! While installing our wood floors he cut the wood inside the house - even though I told him I was pregnant and had allergies! Wood dust covered the whole house!! He incorrectly installed a gas line extension that now blocks access to the HVAC filter - he said he would come back to fix it if we wanted - why come back? Why not do it the "Rightway" the first time? He installed a water line for the refrigerator and it doesn't have sufficient flow - he blamed that on the refrigerator - even though we told him a plumber confirmed it's due to improper line installation. He charged us to replace all the boards on our deck and didn't replace the first five boards!! When we pointed that out, he made another excuse. Even though I wasn't happy, I let all these things go because I wanted the work done before the baby came. But, there is one item I absolutely cannot let pass because it's left me with an un-useable shower for one year!! I asked him to remove my acrylic shower and fully tile the sides and floor. After he installed the shower, I had to call him back FIVE times to try to fix the shower floor! Tiles were popping off, the floor was never sloped correctly and water doesn't drain completely, and now it's leaking to the floor below! He obviously does not know the "Rightway" to install a tiled shower. When I called him after the 5th attempt, to report the leaking, he said it was caused by existing plumbing which he didn't touch - this is FALSE because I had absolutely NO issues using the shower before he dismantled it! After multiple appeals to just give us a refund so I can get someone else to fix it, they finally said they were only willing to refund $185 for labor and materials. I said there's no way it only cost $185 and no one is going to fix it for that much! After getting a few quotes from other contractors, I asked them for a refund that was more commensurate with how much it would cost me - they are refusing to give me a refund and won't communicate with me anymore! They didn't even repay me for the extra tiles I had to buy so he could keep attempting to fix it! Our real estate agent tried to help and now they won't communicate with him either. Homeowners be warned Chris White and Don White of Rightway Construction do not take pride in the quality of their work and they do not value their customers or their partners.

This went well for us. It took a little longer than we expected but in the end the quality of the product turned out how we'd like. I would recommend this provider. Their communication at times could have been a little better but the end result was good.

    Original Complaint :

    On
11/20/2013, allied roofing put a tarp on the front half of my house roof and
1/2 of my shed roof by mistake.  They got
my address mixed up with my neighbors down the street.  My roof was ok until they put the tarp on
it.  They did not leave any information
of who had put the tarp on my roof.  I
tried calling everyone i could think of the find the company responsible.  On 11/26/13, i came home from work to find a
tarp on the neighbors house. I walked down to his house and asked for him to
call me.  He called me 11/30/13, he was
the one who told me who was putting his roof on and that his insurance agent
told him that they were aware of the mix up and they were supposed to be
calling me on monday. Allied made no effort to call me, so i called them on
12/02/13 late in the afternoon.   I got a
hold of bob rozanski and he told me that this was the first they had heard of
this. He told me that his guys told him that they put the tarp on because they
said that we had shingles missing.  They
also tarped 1/2 my shed roof.  He made an
appt. To meet with me on 12/03/13 at lunch time.  I agreed.
He came out and he climbed on the roof and he said we had hail damage
and i should turn it into my insurance company and they would pay my
deductible. He said that they could plug the holes from the tarp, but that may
only be short term fix or patch in 3 ft areas. I told him i would think about
it. The next day i found out that our shingles were not longer available.  I didn't hear from anybody until i called
them again and told him i wanted a whole new roof.  It was not my fault they tarped my roof by
mistake.  I finally got a hold of the
owner and i met with him on 12/19/13.  He
said he didn't feel like they owed me a whole roof, he also suggested i turn it
into my insurance.  He said they could
plug, patch, or they could give me some money, asked how much and he said
$750.  He said if they did the work, he
would pay for 1/2 the roof and the shed roof to be reaired, but i would have to
    pay for other 1/2

                                    Ms.
Westbrook is correct in saying that we tarped her roof by mistake.  I did meet with her and I agreed that we
would repair the damaged sides of the roof and she agreed to let us replace the
damaged slopes. The next thing I know I receive a letter from the BBB.  I contacted Ms. Westbrook and asked her what
was going on and she told me she had changed her mind and wanted to break our
agreement.  I explained that I am willing
to except her desired outcome and replace the roof entirely for her.  I explained that I would get her on the
schedule and that my crews would replace the roof with a shingle color of her
choosing she then told me that she had to think about it.  I do not know what there is to think about as
I have agreed to her request.  I am not
willing to incur any costs from another contractor or am I willing to pay
anyone else to complete the repairs.  We
are more than capable of handling her project and will provide a full warranty
on our work.  If Ms. Westbrook would like
her problem resolved then she needs to contact me and tell me to get her on the
    schedule.

02/05/2014                              BBB        MORE INFO RECEIVED FROM THE CONSUMER :
    Dear Sir,

The purpose of this letter is to respond
to a letter that was sent to you by Mr. Mullins, of Allied Roofing Co, of St.
Louis, concerning a complaint I submitted earlier to you against him and his
company. It is my opinion that Mr. Mullins has misled you and ignores the facts
    in the case.

In his letter, he states that we had an
agreement and I wanted to break it. To the contrary, I did not agree to
anything nor did I sign any agreement.  I
did, however, ask him for a bid for the back half of the roof.  I have attached a copy of the contract for
the back half of the roof for your information.
As you can see it is very vague.
It does not specify the type of shingles; no ice and water underlayment
specified ( required by Ballwin code); and he is charging $100 for removing and
re-installing the gutter guards that we previously installed and should be
included at no cost to me.

Allied Roofing, from the beginning, has
not wanted to take responsibility for the series of mistakes they have
made.  They made no effort to contact me
and let me know they made the mistake in the first place. I had to track them
down and when appraised of the situation, lied and stated that it was the first
they had heard of it.   I have a 20 year
old roof and, up till now, it has not been a problem. However, due to their
negligence by climbing on my roof without my authorization or knowledge,
performing unnecessary work, and leaving a dastardly-looking tarp spread across
the front of my house, all purportedly because their workers failed to
recognize the correct street address, is no reason for me to have to correct,
at my expense, what they have chosen to ignore. In addition, I should willingly
be compensated for any pain and suffering me and my family has suffered because
of their ignorance and wrongful actions.

Once they were located and contacted, the
company tried to minimize the damage they caused by trying to sell me on the
fact that they would simply plug a few holes, match the shingles (which have
been discontinued and without doing the entire roof, any piece-meal job would be
very obvious and unacceptable from my standpoint), and be done with it. Just
recently, Mr. Mullins has recommended that I turn the entire claim into my
insurance company because he doesn't believe he is obligated to pay for the
damages that, you must agree, he has caused.
Also, he has no regard for the financial burden that has been
unexpectedly placed on my family that cannot wait to be resolved.
Unfortunately, he has been dragging his feet with respect to a reasonable
    settlement.

Within the past month, Mr. Mullins came to
my house and, with my father present, discussed the situation. Even then he
repeated his argument that he didn't feel that he owed me a whole roof.  I told Mr. Mullins that I no longer trusted
him or his company to perform the work, and his response was to imply that the
previous lack of communication or poor attitude was, as he put it, "that's
neither here nor there."  He said
the only way he would fix my roof was if his company did the work.  As I hope you now see that I have been very
forthcoming with him and agree that my expectations are reasonable.

It was after careful consideration and
with little to no satisfaction from Mr. Mullins, that I finally sent a
complaint to you as the responsible BBB in this area.  He has since become angry, indicating that I
went behind is back in reporting the situation to you.  In a recent conversation, and in a very
indignant manner, he asked me what I really wanted, as if this had not been
clear from the beginning.  I told him,
again, that I wanted a new roof but I didn't want his company to do the work.
When reading Mr. Mullins response to my original complaint, he pays little to
no attention to detail. Most notably the fact that he keeps addressing me as
Ms. Westbrook, whereas my name is Mrs. Westbrock. This condescending attitude
    has existed from the beginning.

In conclusion, I called my insurance
company as a last resort and they are having another company put on a new
roof.  As this has been going on since
November 20, 2013, I am tired of dealing with this company.  I would never recommend this company to
anyone.  If Mr. Mullins wants to make me
happy, he will do the right thing and pay my insurance company for the WHOLE
ROOF AND RETURN THE DEDUCTIBLE TO ME.

I appreciate your assistance in this
matter, and would be very happy to provide more information should it be
necessary. Thank you for being there for both the public and business
    community.

Bottom line Mr. Mullins would not pay for the whole roof nor did I want him to put the new roof on considering all the problems and run around that I received from him.  He was less than honorable in my opinion.  My insurance got involved and Allen Rooting replaced the roof with great quality and workmanship.

    Sunset Custom Homes, Inc.
We had been considering a room a addition or moving to a larger house for the past few years.   With a growing family we needed more space but our location and neighborhood was ideal for us.

We contacted 3-4 contractors to get bids on the addition and there was a wide range of prices.

Sunset Homes bids the job a little differently than the other contractors.    Pat bids just the shell portion of the room.    This includes the design, blueprints, framing, siding, roof, windows, and doors.   You are responsible for the foundation or concrete, drywall, electric, trim, paint, flooring, insulation etc...

Initially, I had some apprehension about going this route.   I didn't necessarily want to be a general contractor on the project but I did like the idea of being able to shop for the best deal with the subcontractors or possibly doing some of the work myself to save money.    I also did not have any contacts for the different trades.   Pat was able to put me in contact with the different subcontractors to help with each portion of the job.

Pat gave me an estimate for each of the different jobs that I would needed to sub out on his initial quote.   What if the bids came in higher than his estimate?   I have never hired anyone to pour a concrete slab.   This could completely throw my budget off.

In the end,  all of the quotes from the subcontractors came in at the estimate or less.   I did do a fair amount of work myself to save money in the process,  I hung all the insulation, drywall, painted, tile,  and did the trim work.   My completed room probably came in 10-15% less than the initial estimate from Pat so this was a pleasant surprise.

Only issue with the room was it took longer than anticipated.    Since this was our first time doing anything like this we might have been overly optimistic on the turn times.  Several of the sub contractors had a 2-3 weeks backlog that kept us hung up and there was delays with some of the materials.

In the end,  I am happy with the results and the costs came in less than I budgeted for.   This approach is definitely more hands on for the homeowner.     At the same time it gives you quite a bit of flexibility on who you hire and gives you an opportunity to save money by doing jobs your self.      I would definitely go this route again.

    T. STAHLMAN BUILDER, Inc.
Todd was friendly and very helpful. He understood exactly the situation we were in and when we are ready to add on to our home, we will contact him again.
We have ageing parents that we are trying to get to move in with us to care for them but we also want them to have a sense of independence. Todd understood that this might take some time but went above and help us with put our ideas into visual terms. He even contacted a previous job that was close by so that we could see what he had done for them and to give us an idea of how it would look. Thanks Todd.

It was AWESOME! They were courteous, kind, flexible with my crazy schedule, never made me feel "put out" and as said above, all work done in 4 DAYS!!!!!  That is amazing!  They came in 1/2 of the money that I thought we would have to spend to get this all done and made the whole experience the most pleasant as it can be!!!!
We will be calling them to do our 3 bathrooms and basement bar, entertainment space and family room for Phase 2-3!!!

Highly recommend them and would go nowhere else for housing and contracting needs! True professionals!

    Bill Williams Construction Co
Bill Williams Construction Co. gave us a competitive bid, in addition to offering several suggestions to improve our room addition. The work was done very professionally. The tradesmen showed up on time and stuck to a to a consistent work schedule. Further, the tradesmen performed and behaved professionally throughout the entire job. The work was first rate! The most impressive part of the entire project was the comfortable feeling we had, that Mr. Bill Williams is an honest man who does what he says he will do, no BS. Mr. Williams displayed not only integrity, but a tremendous amount of construction experience. We signed a professional contract and also were given the appropriate lien waivers, Very important! This project went very well and because of this experience I stronly recommend Bill Williams Construction Co. I have already recommended them to some of my friends.
